  • L'incroyable Marc Bolan présente Generation X.

    C'est leur première TV !

    On doit beaucoup à T.REX.

  • I'm pretty sure there is cocaine in that flower.

  • Rock history there.I liked Marc and enjoy Billy's music to-day.

  • Lydon describec Idol as the "Cliff Richard of punk"..lol

  • @pawnsacrifice1 actually he said he was the "perry como" of punk. i dont know which is worse!

  • the camerawork is rediculous

  • i remember watchin each show , fantastic !!

  • I don't think Billy Idol is as pretty as Marc Bolan. No way near as pretty!

  • Marc Bolin AND GenX......

    how fuckin' cool is that?!!

  • @dws901 I think Bolan was one of the few who still had cred with the punks

  • @pawnsacrifice1 Along with Bowie, Ian Hunter and Lennon and to a smaller degree, Ferry. Although Elton never had cred with the punks, he actually championed and quite liked Punk.

  • Lets try Jimmy Rogers for starters (B.1897) died at 35 but was Howlin Wolf's childhood hero, yeah thats right, Chuck Berry knew all of his songs, incorporated country twang in the blues. All thos young british kids, future rock stars influenced by the blues and r50s ock n roll, resurrecting the blues and revitalizing rock n roll from folk music. Do some research, you'll find more music that you didnt know about along the way. I find new stuff all the time.

  • This is fun as hell. And Bolan at the beginning is goddam hilarious.

  • who gives a flying fuck where the music came from fuck it who cares its punk we all like punk so that makes us punk we shouldnt argue amgost are selves

  • The Ramones , The Dictators , The Heartbreakers , The Cramps , Rocket From The Tombs , Electric Eels , Pere Ubu , Dead Boys , Suicide , Gizmos , Zeros , X , Styrenes , Nervebreakers , Crime , DMZ , Real Kids , Vomit Pigs , Nervous Eaters , Teenage Jesus and The Jerks , Wierdos , Death , Pure Hell, (Chicago) Misfits , all , or nearly all , active by 76/77, some by 75 and earlier.

  • This is my favorite Billy. The shakey thrashy one! So pretty and energetic!! AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAARG!!!

  • Apart from in New York, all American rock musicians were simply Peter Frampton wannabes in1976/77.

  • @flaxonx3 now that's a lame shallow statement.

  • @flaxonx3 Maybe you are just trying to get a reaction, so here it is. I think British rock si great especially british blues rock, Free and Humble pie are outstanding examples compared the the larger more marketed big name acts. But regardless where all this great music came from, it all started here in the USA, doesnt make us better its just the facts.

  • The Who

  • i just love this song and i want to play it on guitar so can anyone do a guitar tab for this song or give me the chords???PLEASE

  • thats true the damned backed t rex in 76

  • Steely Dan was also considered POP Music at the time.

Generation X in my mind was a Punk Band

  • Novice, you've got to be joking? The only thing punk about Generation X is Billy's hairdo. This is POP MUSIC, plain and simple. Their colorful "punk" wardrobes looks like something the Bay City Rollers (another teenie-bopper pop act, if you don't know) would wear. I like Generation X and even have their Greatest Hits CD, but this is not PUNK music. It's the contrived 70's version of Nu Metal, loud, fast and SAFE music intended for teenage fans trying to jump on the "punk" band wagon.

  • @DasBlood what a self important little prick you are. gen x is recognized a one of the influences in the original punk movement and you know it. u just felt like being rude to someone. and that makes you a no one.you are probablya 50 yr old virgin that lives with him mum. lol

  • haha.. Generation X influenced a lot of Japanese kids to buy records. They were not influential in the US, I'll tell you that. We had REAL punk bands here.

  • @DasBlood They sure as hell were influential in the U.S., nimrod! Just as they were in Britain. And what were those "REAL" punk bands? Britain had superior punk bands just like they had superior rock bands! Deal with it! And shove Henry Rollins & Glen Danzig up your ass.

  • @DasBlood what the fuck do yanks know about punk it was an atitude that you lot couldnt even begin to understand

  • @pussypop100 The Ramones?

  • @pussypop100 If you wanna split hairs, We had the Ramones. We win.

  • @Muertenoir and Billy Idol lived on Long Island for a bit as a kid

  • @pussypop100 Too easy, what do you KNOW about punk, Ramones, already mentioned here, um lets see MC5, I'll let you do the research so you can learn more. there are even more bands considered punk or early punk by some, such as the doors. What you think punk or any genre music is, is only your opinion because some of the biggest punks laughed at the punk fans in the 70s, Like Steve Jones wearing the doiley on his head, fans soon repeated. Dont give a damn where "it" came from, but know ur facts

  • @pussypop100 It originated in the US ... Are you stupid ?

    *greetings*

    from a Londoner

  • @DasBlood I'd reckon Generation X to be one of the first and best "pop-punk" bands ever. But what it boils down is some great hot English RnR!

  • fuck bolan was a pioneer

  • I rember seeing this as a child

  • this is soo fucking cool. marc bolan the most beautiful creature with the second most beautiful creature billy idol...

  • Marc Bolan was the most beatuful man on earth ever, but here he was a bit out of it all!

  • @dutchbolanfan

I think he was acting up on purpose

  • Marc Bolan is God

  • Marc Bolan isn't God.....but he ain't no scrabby jew freak!

    You have something against jews?

  • Look at Generation-X. Lean and mean. Now look at the modern neo-poseur insta-punk bands of today. Notice how fat , bloated and over fed the corporate "punk" bands of today look.

  • No, Marc Bolan wasn't gay or weird. He was the leader of the glam rock movement, an part of his signature style was his camp demeanor/attitude on stage.

  • @SumLuv ......what movement???

  • No, Billy Idol got arrested on the lower east side in NYC for crack possession but told the police it was his GIRLFRIEND'S and they arrested her instead. So he's straight. He's not weird just self involved.

  • Comment removed

  • lol, parts of this video even look GOOD pixelized. Too bad they hide Billy's pretty face

  • I did not even know he had a show?

  • marc you were the prettist star always rock on

  • billy ?

  • not true, it was bolan who got them on the show...he even had the damned open for him during one of his last tours.

  • Ok, i stand corrected. Cheers.

  • cheers man.

  • @dsussman He also gave Souxsie and the Banshees a showcase. Marc was a good soul :)

  • @dsussman The damned were support act for his last tour

  • pop product

  • totally agree glam rock bolan, bowie, new york dolls,

but hair metal was only about how they look like poison they sucks really

but glam rock they look great, they play really great

long live to the classic glam rock

  • is that marc bolan!? he rocks! sad he died 77

  • rock on, marc!

  • seriously bolan might have been the god to music and proves that glam was the main impact in music since the rock and roll days

  • My friend loveessss Marc! - I don't :D

  • AHHHHHHH YEA AWESOME!!!

    F YEA

    PEACE!

  • UNDERATED GUITARIST.

    ESP. VALLEY OF THE DOLLS.!!!!

THE ENDS MUST JUSTIFY THE MEANS.

    PEACE YA'll

  • Wow Billy Idol wow he is so young!

  • Bolan scareds me, but GenX is da bomb. Would love to see more reunion action. TJ needs da money...

Sputnik can open for 'em. Double duty for TJ. I'd pay to see it, and buy all the stuff...

  • Tony James and Mick Jones have a group called Carbon/Silicon and a new cd called "The Last Post". There is a US tour currently in the works.

I seriously doubt Tony needs money. For several years C/S have been giving their music away on the internet for free.

  • I knew all this. I was fucking around...

I love TJ and Sputnik both.

And I love the thing with Mick Jones too.

    C/S is good stuff, too.

  • bolan introducing billy idol!

    that's simply great!!!!!!!

  • fuckin gd-hope still remembers me-from insideout fanzine

  • billy idol..! oh shit!

  • Bolan was one of the first guys on daytime TV to support the punk bands. He took the Damned out on tour with him. Lewisham Odeon one of the best shows ever.

  • Billy Idol is great

  • Oh yeah, and by the way...I loved the "carnation throwing" by "fresh" Marc Bolan who was ALSO wearing a carnation-colored shirt (sexy bellybutton, too. Haha.) before introducing Billy Idol and Generation X. Now THAT was scarier than demon worshipping. Haha.

  • Oh yeah, and by the way...I loved the "carnation throwing" by Marc Bolan before introducing Generation X who was ALSO wearing a carnation-colored outfit. Now THAT was scarier than demon worshipping. Haha.

  • "Night of the Cadillacs" and "Into the Valley of the Dolls" were also my favorite Generation X tracks.

  • Light years from Rebel Yell.

That was punk rock, or well,

Billy Idol without the big music business.

  • OMG.... This is BILLY IDOL... He is god of Punk Rock. I love him. He's so Awesome. I must say I prefer his solo stuff.... Whiplash Smile, Rebel Yell, Eyes without a Face, Dancing with Myself, Blue Highway, Catch My Fall, It's so Cruel, Sweet Sixteen, White Wedding, Dead on Arrival, Flesh for Fantasy.. God the list is endless.

  • "il cantante, Billy Idol, che si dice sia bello come me"... ahahahhahahahahah che idiota di un Bolan

  • Billy or Marc who cares........both gr8

Marc brought us out the dull hippy era and Billy & Tony did the same post punk. One thing is for sure glam rock IS great stage show stuff (rock n roll) -luv 'em both

  • I fucking love Marc.

  • Billy Idol was not as pretty as Marc...hee hee

  • But Marc Bolan was the "Godfather of Punk", and even though it was self proclaimed, Generation X were the first band to play his music variety show and they didn't seem to not back him on the claim,....man..., nor the Damned that played on his show too. And then Marc Bolan is known for dying soon after, and Generation X splinters into "Billy Idol", "Empire" and "Sigue Sigue Sputnik", all not as cool as the coolest looking band of ll time.

  • marc was was the prettier

  • you misspelled moron smart one

  • You're avoiding the question, Mary. Plus, you wrote, "was that a man or women".

  • @Wantabanana as well as misspelling 'anyway'.

  • great song bad video.... was that a man or women at the beginning? well anyways they need to put 100 punks rule on here

  • how do you not know who marc bolan is, morom

  • Bolan's a rock God and for your information he was flamboyant but he was excessively flamboyant here on purpose.

  • USE IN ANY WAY I SEE IT....

I SUPPOSE A BUST ON THE WHO TO SOME DEGREE,BUT THE COVERED SHAKIN ALL OVER SO???

    who knows.

THIS BRING BACK MEMORIES EVEN THOUGH I HAVE AMERICAN AND UK VINYLS I listen TO!!

    YEA BILLY.

    BOB ANDREWS IS KILLER!!!

  • TRYIN TO ORGET....

PEACE YA'll LOVE ME SUM GENERATION XXXXXXXXXXXX

  • Marc Bolan, the true (if self proclaimed) God father of Punk (sorry Iggy). "Running with The Boss Sound" rocks something fierce, right? Right.

  • I think you have to go back to the Kingsmen and the original "Louie Louie" for proto-punkismm, or better yet, Larry and Laurie Collins' "Whistle Bait".

  • marc you are the best

  • neither are as pretty as me though

  • Hey they have the vhs I know of some of the Marc shows ... I don't know about dvd I have had it forever :)))

    xoooxox NICO

  • Thank you so much I love this ... I wish the code was there.. why do they do that ?? make you take them down or does the person posting it do it ???

    xoxoxo NICo

  • another pop-poppy product i,ve never rated billy he,s a cockney twat but your,re right.the rest are revival

  • Sum Fartz wit' sum reverb are WAAAAAAY BETTTER Than Greed-Day/GReen Day ID-DIOTS

  • Marc's show was fantastic. Way ahead of its time. Used to run home from school to watch it. Wish they would repeat it somewhere.

  • now this live. time for a reunion i think. whats idol doing now ?

  • Yes! And they never came here (NYC). Powerful band, Mark and Tony.

Great to see clip of the Bolan show! Thiry years later and nobody can get it right...or even 'get it'.

I can't think of any bands today I would bother to spit on, Nick Cave excluded. Green Day?!! The fking Cortinas were better than Green Day!

  • great quality =p lol

  • Thanks a lot!!! Merci, sa fait du bien apres 30 ans

  • No one is prettier than Marc....not then...not now..xx

  • That guy at the start was one of the biggest stars in the world, Marc Bolan.

  • Great song - Faggot Bolan

  • Man that guy at the start was messed up

  • The lonely rebel song of BI

  • Was the host trying to act like a fag, was he on drugs or is he really queer?

  • That's Marc Bolan- one of the biggest UK rock stars in history. And if you're concerned about 'fags' you shouldn't even be LISTENING to punk cos you've COMPLETELY missed the whole fucking point! Do you even know the origin of the word?

  • I'm sorry I didn't know who the fag was. He seemed all too gay for me to give a crap. And are you saying punk is actually gay music? If so, I'm noy buying it.

  • All Rock n' Roll is Homosexual.

  • LOL Rock N' Roll is homosexual? Tell that to Billy Idol and see what he has to say about it. Personally, I think you're full of bs. You're the fag.

  • Man, you idiots are SO clueless! Yeah tell it to Billy Idol and he'll know what I'm saying cos he's not a homphobic twat like you people. Seriously- if you're listening to punk and you use the word 'fag' as an insult you have totally missed the point... Just read 'Please Kill Me', if you can actually read, then you'll probably have to throw away half your record collection.

  • You want to know the truth? I don't listen to punk that much. I listen to mostly glam rock. You want to tell me that glam rock is gay then I'm not replying anymore to your stupid ass comments. You're not worth my time. I don't believe anything you say and I won't believe anything you say because it's all bull. You know something else? I don't care what people call my beliefs against gays. If you call it homophobic, then I'm more than proud to be considered homophobic.

  • Oh, right you're saying stupid things as a joke- very clever...

  • HeartbreakersAlibi, you listent to "mostly glam rock," and you admit to being homophobic? What the fuck do you think glam even means?

Ladies and gentlemen, yet another example of Generation Stupid.

  • I know glam rockers were NOT gay besides Marc Bolan. Glam rockers were the most womanizing of all rockers. Just look at Motley Crue, Poison, Britny Fox, and Cinderella. Besides, what the crap do my beliefs have to do with what I listen to? I think I made my point clear enough by now, don't you think?

  • You fekkin moron. Those are hair metal bands. Glam Rock began in 1971 with Marc Bolan, David Bowie, Roxy Music, Gary Glitter, Suzie Quatro, the Sweet, Sparks, and on and on and on.

    Again ... Generation Stupid.

  • Getting a little rude, aren't we? Everyone, and I mean everyone refers to Motley Crue as a glam rock band. Look around on the comment boards. I just go with what other people call them. Hair metal and glam rock are known as the same thing.

  • Because it was a form of rock music so devoid of creativity that it had to even steal its name from a former movement. You're trying to compare people like Bolan, Bowie, Ferry, Eno et all to ... Cinderella?

  • Got a point there, but I've never even thought David Bowie would be considered glam rock. Cinderella was also a bad example of hair metal all together, anyways. They were more on the edge of classic rock and blues even though they had an appearance of a hair metal band.

  • "...but I've never even thought David Bowie would be considered glam rock"

WHAT? He INVENTED it. Google Glam Rock or look it up on wikipedia!

  • Ok, ok. You win. He did invent glam rock. I was just corrupted by my fellow youtubers and was made to think that real glam rock was invented by bands such as Motley Crue.

  • actually Bolan invented glam rock

  • Alright then. Bolan invented glam rock. Now that I went on wikipedia, I have now got it all straight. New York Dolls, Marc Bolan, and David Bowie were the first glam rockers, but Bolan was the first out of all three.

  • True that!

  • I would consider Sid Barret of early Floyd, an early glam rocker.

  • no one "invents" a style of music. Its like everyone says Black Sabbath invented Heavy Metal even though bands like Leaf Hound, Iron Butterfly, Bang, Bloodrock, The JPT Scare Band, Epitaph, Black Widow, and Alice Cooper and literally hundreds of others were all out there at the same time doing similar things. Its the same with glam.

  • and you mention JPT Scare Band, in that case you win. good on ya

  • motley crue is hair metal, which isn't the same thing as glam rock. bolan was the first glam rocker, bowie second, and then came the rest. hair metal is honestly one of the worst thing ever to happen to music.

  • get real man.. this is the start of punk rock ....without it we would still be disco dancing..

  • thats an opinion I like some hair metal.... although I must agree some of it totally sucks like whitesnake what the hell is that lol

  • glam rock=70s. hair metal=80s.

they are not the same thing.

  • WRONG. How much proof do you need? I'm more than willing to give it to you.

  • "hair metal". its funny, none of those words refer to music or even sound

  • @glambush2 "All Rock 'n' Roll is Homosexual"? WTF are you on anyway?!? Geez.

  • fookin good stuff. I like the mod shirt on the drummer. this is what punk was really. Marc is being Marc too. sad that he died soon after this. wathcing clips from this show always reminds me of the T-Rex song Chrome Sitar...the good old days

  • Marc Bolan OMG. I like Billy Idol but not really punk, not my music. Except The Clash and MC5... but THIS IS GREAT!

  • WOW!

I'm not big on Billy Idol, but I love Generation X and T. Rex, so this was a good find for me!

  • omg, awesome.

  • well im not against people acting flamboient...and if he hosts great bands like idol and bowie hes allright with me

  • the host of this the opend for billy...kinda gay

  • haha but hes not. just flamboyant and fabulous

  • The Marc Bolan Show was an incredible experience for kids my age. Can't see such a show getting green lit today.

  • soy gay oneto

  • you are right marc was prettier thn idol..but "derwood" is the prettiest, lol!

    GO DERWOOD!

  • whos derwood when hes at home?????????????

  • no body is prettier than you marc rock on .

  • No way Marc, you were much prettier than Billy Idol :-)

  • EMO

  • lol Emo is an invetion or just a name if you will to disgregate one band from another regardless if it's good or it sucks. I mean, either way it could suck or rock but no, lately everything reduces to I like emo, I like poperpop I like punk rock, I like hardcore; Like you couldn't like a band just because you like it :(

  • well said!!!

  • :)

  • disgregate?

  • @gbaway poperpop?

  • whow a classic punk rock !!!! thanks

  • This is a great clip. Does anyone know if the Bolan Show is on DVD yet?
