  • Showaddywaddy and the Glitter Band were cool! They made heavy drums cool.

  • I remember the excitement surrounding the Ants when they first appeared and being completely consumed by this and Ant Music. He was, and remains my first and only male crush!

  • ...of their colonizers, and still endure to this day as what's left of their culture is being turned into cheap, tacky, offensive costumes for white, underweight, racist, hipster bitches, and then they turn around and say they do it out of respect. slap in the face.

wow this turned out being way longer than i thought it would. hope it made sense.

  • @pirsocau I think you got it the wrong way around. I always interpreted those lines as being Adam Ant expressing that he did not feel comfortable being white European and that underneath his external appearance there is a red Indian. Infact its not even interpretation. Thats what he says. Quite possibly someone with bipolar or aspergers wouldn't feel they belong to any group. A sense of being different to everybody.

  • @HRHPrincePhilip1 he has asperger's? huh. i listened to the song again and your interpretation makes more sense.

  • and repeats what he feels underneath the white. i think the frantic nature of the song was meant to make the song sound... out of control. like they're doing something seriously wrong and they want the audience to know that. i'm sure i overread into this. i just couldn't let "I feel beneath the white There is a redskin suffering From centuries of taming" fly. that's there for a reason. it's a very concise and profound statement of the genocide native americans endured at the hands...

  • ... not. it's genocide. the intro to the video creates a strong sense of tribalism between them. adam tells the audience he know how the white people stomped on the natives and all but erased their cultures, and proceeds to describe their course of action: he will be proud of his manner, no matter how mad it is. he revs up his family, boosts their pride, intimidates their enemies, and then shouts out their war cry. they repeat their battle strategy. and in the bridge, he finds a prisoner...

  • is it the drugs or am i listening to a song about conquering the americas and wiping out all the indigenous people who lived there with no method, just chaos. I feel beneath the white there is a redskin suffering from centuries of taming. redskin was a termed used to describe the natives, who saw their families, tribes, and cultural values and customs get stomped out by whiteness, they get sent to schools that totally whitewash their whole identity and culture. and term into something they're...

  • Rocket by Def Leppard...the drums

  • This was the first record I ever bought, freshly released & it still gets played regularly :D

  • and marcomwww

    but adam is cool!

  • i prefer this version to the studio version.

is it weird that i find adam to be extremely attractive?

  • now i hear where white rabbits' "percussion gun" got its inspiration.

  • Why was that so fun?

  • this band was the best he sucked solo

  • once went to a fancy dress party as Adam ant....Glad to have you back Mr Ant xD

  • I might possibly go see Adam Ant in February. To hear this song live, I just might fucking die happy. The end.

  • the very first album i owned, an italian import no less!

  • Elvis - Rolling Stones, The Doors - The Who - Elton John so mrmakemagay piss off you clueless f retard

  • Foghat, ELO, the list is endless and they all had UNIQUE sounds. I could list you hundreds ..oh and I am not that big a fan or Adam Ant ... but he was unique ... Dire Straits .. Simple Minds, Boy George. Ian Dury and the Blockheads, Deep Purple, Blondie, Toyah, Kate Bush, Rod Stewart, MeatLoaf, Marilion.. the list really is endless and chock full of real talent .. they could all sing live and play unlike the studio hyped drones of today ... Pat Benatar .. Stevie Nicks .. Beatles

  • Comment removed

  • @mrmakemagay .. Sunshine .. you are complete retard .. music now sucks .. artists are reduced to "covering" classics ... they are no longer innovative or original .. simply corporate clones or x factor wannabes ... There is some talent but it's few and far between ... Amy Winehouse (God rest) .. Adele .. but our generation was littered with talent ... Police, Bowie, Phill Collins, Tina Turner, Queen, AC DC, Kiss, Alice Cooper, Led Zeplin, Thin Lizzy, Pink Floyd, Slade, Toad the Wet Sprocket,

  • @dhenbhoy You've just said that music now sucks and then immediately undermine your own backward argument by saying that there is talent but it's few and far between. You're another fucking bipolar moron, you don't even know your own mind, you stupid fuck. "Music" is no worse no than at any other time - you're only outing yourself as a dated and clueless bitch who doesn't know any of it so shut the fuck up and enjoy your eighties mixes you fucking waste piece.

  • @mrmakemagay .. IF I had said "all music sucks" you would be correct .. but since the statement is .. music sucks ....... but there are a few talented individuals ... the statement is exactly that .. only a complete 100% retarded moron without the capability of analytical thought and logical reasoning could fail to understand the point being made. What a fool you look ... exactly who are the great bands today that rank alongside U2, AC DC, Queen, Kiss, Slade, Dire Straits, Jam, The Who, CCR?

  • @dhenbhoy You're a fucking backward bitch, obviously, who doesn't even understand what they've said, which was, let me remind you "music now sucks" - as an absolute and without the pathetic attempt at qualification you made after the event. The implication is clearly made via context making "all" redundant. If you don't like what you said, maybe you should try not to be a backward bitch in the first place.

That you don't who the great bands are just means you're also a fucking clueless bitch.

  • Even Frankie goes to Hollywood ... Pet Shop Boys (none of these are my favs) but they were unique and had their own style .. not roll them off the production line clones or copy cats .. We had Madonna, Blondie, Tina, Toyah, Annie Lennox, Stevie Nicks, Sinead O' Connor, Bruce Springsteen, and a lot of these stars can still pull bigger crowds than bands of today .. AC/DC will still pack out anywhere they play ... so go back to whatever public toilet it is that you hang out at ...

  • @mrmakemagay Shut up, you got no idea what you're on about.

  • @hearoth00 Fuck off back to romania, you ignorant gypsy bitch.

  • @mrmakemagay No need to swear child, I'm also from England. Does swearing on the internet make you gain self esteem? Think you need to chill out and realize your opinions on this are worthless, it's the internet, don't expect nothing.

  • @hearoth00 Now you need to fuck yourself and spare me your daytime tv amateur profiling, you stupid bitch - it was so fucking banal and terrifyingly simplistic I almost shit down one trouser leg out of sheer boredom reading it, as my body thought I had gone into a fucking vegetative state.

Furthermore, I think you need to go and take your own fucking simpleton advice and also stab yourself repeatedly in the face while you're at it, so as to extract the full benefit. Piss off.

  • @mrmakemagay Babe, no need to cry your eyes on the internet.

  • @hearoth00 Yes, yes - even if that were true, it wouldn't make you any less of a fucking witless loser would it? FAIL.

  • @mrmakemagay Hun, I can give you all the hugs you need to stop you crying. <3

  • @hearoth00 More fail. You should recognize when it's time to hop yourself under a train.

  • @mrmakemagay How do you hop under a train? hopping usually goes up.

  • @hearoth00 "Usually" self-evidently implies that "up" need not always be the case. With that, you've answered your own question - which was redundant in the first place. You are backward - more fail, fail harder.

  • @mrmakemagay How does one be backward hunny?

  • @hearoth00 FAIL.

  • @mrmakemagay That all you can say? Don't be hating.

  • @hearoth00 "Fail" is clearly all you warrant. FAIL.

  • @mrmakemagay Darling, I'll take you under my wing <3

  • @hearoth00 Do that, I'll break off your wing and club you to death with it.

  • @mrmakemagay How would you break off my wing dear?

  • first thing i learned to play on the bass guitar!

  • I;m warmed and fuzzy with Adam's chilling timeless relevance. Plus i can't believe taht really Bruckheimer stole Jack Sparrow from ADAM!

  • I;m warmed and fuzzy with Adam's chilling timeless relevance

  • LOVE THIS SONG! <3

  • And by the way,I was around "back then" and I don't remember saying a damn thing about music being "better years ago." Actually quite the opposite! Music was coming to some really great new crossroads and was very new and exciting.

  • @itbitkitty I didn't mind plunking down the money for an album that I had only heard one song on because I knew that chances where, I would love the whole album! Unlike today where it is rare for me to enjoy more then one or two songs on an album, the rest usually winds up being spoon feed corporate "we will tell you what you like" shit.

  • ha! so percussion gun by white rabbits came from here:)

  • good song brutal vid

  • Whether you call it punk or new wave or post punk or just rock n roll Adam and the Ants = great. Punk rock? Sock puppets? Watch the video on my channel.

  • adam is back!

  • I love AATA's...you can hear Adam was a fan of the Glitter Band with the double drums

  • ace band, love 'em. I noticed that some of adam's dancing and body/facial gestures around the 1:00 and 2:00 mark are a bit like keith flint in firestarter. DId Adam inspire keith as well as johnny depp !? lol Adam. Genius. Flamboyant new romantic new wave post punk rock performer. I even had my face painted with a white stripe when I was a kid of 9

  • Adam is playing at UEA in December, last saw hi at Runton Pavilion31 years ago, wonder what the comparison will be. God where can I get a pair of 36 inch PVC trousers from now!!??

  • White Rabbits - Percussion Gun (same drum beat)

  • he was my absolute fantasy when I was in college.........oh my God in Heaven he still elicits extreme emotions in me now........and I am 49!!!!! I willl NEVER forget him kissing my cheek Nov 82 when I was 20 years old

  • If Proactiv had been invented then, a few of these boys could have used it.

  • First band I ever liked (age 5)

  • @metalmadsen Me too! First vinyl I ever owned!

  • No Bad,Is Good, I Like.

  • absolute classic, cheers for posting !!

  • cool video

  • No method in our madness

    Just mad about our manners.

  • Bahahahahaha, who said that he is Johnny Depp wannabe? Johnny Depp would have been a little kid when this came out.

  • purrrr

  • Still love the sound of those drums.

  • You got to love those drums.

  • Incorrect Jack Sparrow looks nothing like a pirate of the era would have, and more like a knock off of Adam and the Ant's. LoL

Combine Adam,Keith Richards, Milli Vanilli & you get a Pirates of the Caribbean's lead character.. :P

  • one of my favourites by adam and the ants/adam ant! ;)

  • yeah baby! this is the Adam I remember :-)

  • Gosh, he's so hot, adam.

  • I still have all the old vinyl, picture cover singles too. Interest was lost after Apollo 9. Those dual drums gave one hell of a sound.

  • One of the first albums I bought. Still listenable, especially this song and Killer in the Home, which is so underated.

  • My 2nd concert, 1981. Good shit.

  • if it wasn't against school rules i would go into school with that make-up every day :)

  • The thing that messed up Adam was that they (record company) were trying to mass market him and he had to cope with making big bubblegum pop songs later in his career around 1983 and later to afford big production and big venue tours. He should have told management to piss off and stay a small semi underground cult act. Playing a handful of small to medium stage acts.

  • Quite simply the sexiest man that has ever lived. Off to have a 'Lie Down'...

  • i smell malcoms hand in this

  • I remember the fights. This song just takes you back and sends shivers down the spine whenever I hear it. Shade too white....

  • Like the drum beats...

  • baby devil here,, darling i hope it was my parents and not me, who made you feel like that.. alabaster is perfection,, a perfect shade.. passion was not to be had, raised to strict.. my eyes never set on anything the likes of you.. p.s you said i was wearing your testicules for earrings,, know you know it me LOVE,, you were right my name did not suit me,, you do

  • @jrmetmoi Since Adam came first, by about 20+ years, who's the wannabe?

  • @Kowakianmonkeylizard Exactly~!! LOL

  • @Kowakianmonkeylizard There is a lovely comment somewhere on youtube that goes like this...."Johnny Depp and Russell Brand, he was your Daddy"...made me howl. You are right!!

  • @Kowakianmonkeylizard I meant Adam looks like a 'Pirates Of The Caribbean' type NOW, not back in 1980 or whatever! Now, Adam is wearing a pirate hat and this fake-looking moustache and soul patch situation.

  • @Kowakianmonkeylizard lol you got that right.....

  • @Kowakianmonkeylizard He obviously time traveled just to copy Johnny Depp's costume artist.

  • @jrmetmoi

"This comment has received too many negative votes"

Really? Just goes to show how many morons there are on YouTube, eh?

This comment is *NOT* saying that Adam Ant *IS* a PotC wannabe. at ALL, merely that he looks - ***strangely enough*** - LIKE one.

Fucking idiots, the lot of you.

  • @KeravaKook I suppose it received those votes because the word 'wannabe' is usually a negative term used for people who imitate others. Naturally that's going to piss fans off a little

  • @jrmetmoi well you fucking idiot seeing this is 30 fucking years before pirates you wanker seems to me pirates would be an adam ant wannabe....no fucking idiot....

  • @jrmetmoi lol Wow. I can't tell if you're an internet troll or stupid..

  • Watching this video reminds why I had such a bad crush on Adam Ant which started at about age 14....he's still sexy as hell and gettin' this old mama a little hot and bothered! lol

  • @EgoShredder , music videos had been introduced way back in 1975 with Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody, which it could be argued kick-started the video age. After that, and at the start of the 80s, bands were certainly producing promotional videos to go along with their music. Kings of the Wild Frontier was 1981 and the video age was coming into its prime, which continued throughout the 80s.

  • Damn, I wish I could have been around when these guys were in their prime... Not in this period of sucky auto tuned brain dead junk being flung at us.

  • I saw them 4 times in 1980 and '81 at the Brighton centre,I even had the same jacket , make up and all- they're some of my best memories of my teenage years!

    brilliant!

  • i bought this album (Kings) in 1981...still my all-time fave...

  • @alid12d, I were there aswell he was great weren't he? =]

  • This is much more weird than I remember.

  • Marco's guitar was awesome.

  • great bhangra track

  • Just saw adam and the ants at Cambridge last night - utterly awesome. I last saw him 30 years ago when I was 15 - nothing had changed. Still hot as hell.

  • @barney6323 i agree saw him last night in Sheffield....timeless classics!!! He was Amazing!! :O)

  • Adam should do a cameo in the next pirate movie!

  • One of the most original bands ever. A brilliant front man. Some terrific tunes. Timeless pop art.

  • count fersen ;)

  • Didn't Adam Brown go crazy and shoot someone?

  • @StormCOG You mean Stuart Goddard? Dont think he shot anyone just threatend them, with a gun and hes always been mad, bipolar suffer.

    peas and fluff

    Foxy

  • @Foxyon55 Oh, I only likked the song Stand And Deliever and Dog Eat Dog

  • Thank you for posting this! I don't think we got to see this here in the states. Love the rawness of it. Adam has been my number one musical artist since the 80's. I like others, but his music will always mean the most to me.

  • Rather an irresistable song and great to see the group in action. A post well worth seeing and hearing repeatedly. A quality post pal.

  • watch "ANDI SEX GANG KAMIKAZE BEAUTY " please ! awful !

  • i wouldnt call it pop music, its punk/post punk with more of an upbeat feel, his latter stuff was pop tho

  • I hate how the British Press label him as a "Has Been". Adam and The Ants were and still are on of the best pop bands to come out in the eighties. The songs he and Marco produced are classic.

  • was about 12 when this came out one of the few songs that feature two drummers, grounbraking in the early eighties, a classic

  • Wow, hardcore pop music! My fave track and I didnt have it 1980 :(((

  • this was music that pushed the boundaries.

    Magnificent.

  • handsome son of a bitch!

  • LOVE the drums!!!

  • classic song from a legendary band.

  • love this group! search "burundi drums" here on youtube to see where the drummer's influence came from :)

  • !978-1983, very good time for music

  • i was born in the wrong fucking generation...

  • @kanumbra I feel your pain :( I'm only 17 but Adam Ant is my all time favourite artist, I'd give anything to have been around when he was in his prime..

This is real music, not the shitty regurgitated, mindless, auto-tuned, drivel that pop 'artists' are spewing out nowadays. Oh music, what happened to you?? </3 :'(

  • @xLittleMissMorphinex Don't know if you know more about underground music in the veins of gothic, ebm, electro-goth, darkwave and sorts... but forget Mtv, do some research ;)

  • @xLittleMissMorphinex i agree with youuu, and im 15, :P

  • @xLittleMissMorphinex oh dear oh dear

  • @xLittleMissMorphinex Congratulation, at least someone who's a teenager and knows aboUt GOOD music :)

  • @xLittleMissMorphinex

    Absolutely!

  • @xLittleMissMorphinex they were saying the same thing then, you clueless bitch.

  • @mrmakemagay I know. Hence I was agreeing and not contradicting, dumbass- maybe read it properly next time?

  • @xLittleMissMorphinex shut your pie hole. i was pointing out to you that back when adam ant was in his prime, there were people saying the exact same shit "about music was better years ago" that you just said as there is always some idiot bitch saying that predictable shit. so maybe YOU should learn to read and then jump off a cliff.

  • @mrmakemagay so let me get this straight: you're calling me a clueless bitch for being upset about the fact that music has become utter crap? ok fine maybe I should say something along the lines of 'lol tis is gud but justin bEibers soooo much BettEr lol old music sux lmao!' would you be satisfied then? Christ you really will take any opportunity to shit all over other people on the internet huh?

  • @xLittleMissMorphinex Don't even bother hon, anyone that cannot come up with anything more original themselves then to call someone a "bitch" and tell them to "shut their pie hole" doesn't rate a response.

  • @xLittleMissMorphinex Oh, you really are clueless. Let me break it all the way down: I'm calling you a clueless bitch because you don't seem to appreciate that the same whiny and trite shit you posted has been said every year, about some previous decade, by some equally clueless bitch, for as long as there has been any kind of music on Earth. For some moron, it is always "better before" - and that position is as invalid today as it was 100 years ago or will be in 100 years time. Now shut it.

  • @mrmakemagay You mad?

  • @mrmakemagay Yes I got that. My point was; yes, people do keep saying it, but it doesn't make it wrong. Today's 'music' (e.g Justin Bieber) couldn't compare to artists like Adam ant! Your argument can be rebuffed with things I already said. Either your debating technique is hitting your opponent over the head with your opening point over and over again until they give up, or you need to rebut my points in a reasonable way that brings something new to the table. Or better yet: piss off.

  • @xLittleMissMorphinex Haha, if you got that, how come you immediately demonstrate that you haven't understood it? The answer is you're either a fucking liar, or a genuine fucking moron - the point being that the comparison is INVALID and an attempt to do so is futile as the matter is subjective. The fact that you selectively use Beiber as an example of "todays music" is just more evidence of the weakness of your position and your overall backwardness. In summary: you're a fucking stupid slut.

  • Very talented man a great beginning x Made me rock all through the 80's xx

  • Thirty-one years after the event, this still sounds fresher than a box full of Glade plug-ins. Punk-Pop-Panto brilliance.

  • incredible music always! You dont see talent like this anymore

  • I remember watching this VHS in the living room when I was 5. Now that it's on Youtube 20 years later, it makes it even better. This VHS tape was like the album just every song was a music video, epic. I think only Iron Maiden did that at the time...

  • What a great slam dance song, pure and simple nectar

  • this must be the video that the rear cover shots for the 'kings of.....' album were taken from

  • Adam Ant took a lot of inspiration from Gary Glitter. Notice the twin drum kits.

  • great band and music those were the days i was a ant person ..lol still love the songs now

  • Absolutely brilliant - gonna get me records out, a two pence peace and remember when music was music - yeah!!!

  • under-rated this guy...

  • For you kids who weren't around then, the drum patterns are (or were) called The Burundi Beat. Boy George and Culture Club used them too.

And @flatleythebard -- I was one of those older boys, slam dancing. Thirty years ago.

  • So unbelievably hot.....

  • ant has request I reframe my last comment, he show up at my house with a musket in a sail boat with wheels

  • A song referring to skin colour? Don't tell the PC brigade or they'll ban it!

  • What guitar is Marco using? I guess it's a Sunburst Les Paul but I've never seen one with a Vibro arm/Wammy bar.

Best song they ever did, great stuff. Thanks for posting.

  • @MrMegabreath it'll be one with a bigsby, factory fitted or not. don't know if it's an original or re-issue.

  • this never could never come out of the u.s. the brits have always been better at the conceptual arts.

  • A Wild Nobility!

  • Burundi Drums..................Listening at 3:14 as he really does a number....on my head! Like a sound tattoo.

  • love the drums <3
