  • @thomstanding well said xD

  • @thomstanding what was it like being in the documentary?

  • omg Oli is so adorable!

  • some of you make me sick, before you go shooting arrows, get your facts straight, go to a special school an become a volunteer an actually get some real insight, so much I want to say but fuck it my energy is best used on helping people not sociopaths like you lot.

  • @h4tchetman i'm liking this because it's true, I just wanted to show in the show my autism is not bad at all they should have shown what the other autistic people are like, my autism is very miled means i only have like 10% of it, I think the show was pointless really, lol could have filmed normal people and would of had the same reaction.

  • I bet all these autistic guys have a few spaghetti related tales to recant.

  • im autistic

  • @thomstanding yup, I'll message you my email address :)

  • well i like Tom:)

  • @malis96 thanks :)

  • As an autist, it is always good when we get "recognition".

'Tis worth noting that every autist/aspie is as different from every other, just as every NT is with other NTs; that culture is a huge factor too! ie. I am Australian, and don't 'think/act' as the stars of this doco do; but then, that is OKAY!

Autism is hyper-consciousness, that steps away from the world/society, because so over-stimulating. Otherwise, we are normal.

Then again, when you can't be ignorantly blissful, things ARE diff!

  • I have low level autism which means I'm mostly normal but I'm smarter than normal people. Now my social interaction is going up because I made friends and I want to spent time with people around my age to have fun. I may act immature sometimes and sometimes I act like a child like being playful in the present. I am very organized with my daily routine and sometimes I change it. I am focused on important things like school. My parents treats me like a child sometimes like keep me at home

  • I am 21 and I like that and similar to these guys I was a little confused and doesn't understand the world around me. Even my social interaction is poor, very shy around people in my age, afraid to go near group of people because of my past experience in my elementary school years for being excluded in a group and I think people in my college will do the same thing like the kids in my elementary school and high school. I mostly fantasizing to make me feel not lonely. I help myself to cope

  • @Gamergirl4774 My experience was, as your school mates get older, they'll also get more accepting. It also helps if you do a fresh start at a school/college where nobody knows you yet.

  • @SeltsamerAttraktor that helps I did that when I start college

  • why oh why did I do this TV show! lol

  • @thomstanding i have worse autism thn u

  • @jackdouglas98 Alot of people do =]

  • @thomstanding i know i never said they didnt

  • In my opinion anyone who takes advantage of people with autism should be killed for their deed of using innocents in such a way.

  • "Growing up is in the head while growing old is in the body"

  • I have Asperger's Syndrome and I'm so proud and have no problem, and am cynical, and existentialist, and structuralist, and evil doesn't exist, only me and my mind is known to me to exist, and this world needs lots of research, yo, I demand you cut your pessimism out, show me the money!!!!!!!

  • looks like an awesome party

  • I liked watching The Autistic Me because I myself have Asperger's Syndrome and mildly autistic so I think it was a great idea that that BBC Three did a programme on Autism.

The problem I experience with having Asperger's and being mildly autistic is making eye contact with people because I am always told not to stare people.

  • @Classictv90s in know exactly how you feel im autistic myself and i mostly try to look people in the eyes so they will feel that i listen to what theye saying though i can listen without looking at them its just kinda hard anyway :/

  • @kallemick Having just read your comment you've summed it up well in the words what you have put.

  • is there any teens or adults on here with autism? i have a five yr old with autism and i would love to talk to you if you dont mind maybe you could help me understand my son better :) thanks. i wish i could understand where he is coming from and get inside his brain to really know how he feels . its not the same talking to a parent of an autistic child i want to know more .if yall have any advice or know anybody please send them this way , i would greatly appreciate it. i want to help my son

  • @TheTattoodmama i have aspergers if u'd like 2 chat.i was only diagnosed though less then 6 monhs ago but i've probly had 4 a really long time.i'm 24 yet my mom says i have the mentality of a 12 or 13 year old.i'm also very different then normal people.if u want 2 chat thats fine but know that i may not be able 2 help though i'll try.

  • @TheTattoodmama bassicly he needs to embrace and say that my son is diffrent and i am proud of him he surly has alot of good quilities and if you can consentrated on the good qulilties then it can help to overcome the lesser qulities and help to be much more confident, you just need to be happy for him and not continuly worry about what others think, try help find support or a spiecal group for him and he will be much more confident as the years go by i should know cause thats how it was for me

  • you will never be able to get inside his brain because a person with autisim has a diffrent way how thier brains work but like i said if you embrace his best quilities then it will help alot

  • autisic people are some of the most intelllgent in the world, bill gates, has it, just because they can be diffcult around people dosen't mean they are dumb, they are just affired of the world and that people won't understand them but if they explain how they are diffrent it can be a huge improvment rather then convering it up, embracing it is the way to go it makes them feel better about themsleves and others and they can find others that are just like them eventually

  • also if they bully your son just remember he will be a sucess cause usally people with autism are sucesses and the bullies will probably be homeless or something like that just remember spiecal people who are diffrent are the future whereas the bullies are the deadend jobs people

  • @thelashers Yo lasher boy, join the club, cynicism will be good for you (that's (I'm not sure you know, I'm embarrassed) a philosophy by Antisthenes in which it involves an ostentatious contempt for ease and pleasure:) ). I studied philosophy and I looooove being poor, it's great fun when the pleasures aren't working.

  • @TheTattoodmama i have autism. Do things that he likes, bond with him more and stick 2 routine

  • Comment removed

  • I don't get Tom's hair :/

  • Telling your children from a young age on that you're not 'normal' makes it very hard for them to accept themselves and to find self-definition and self-advocacy. How is that not a form of abuse?

  • @Annique I can definitely see how that would severely damage confidence and overall development. If they had just treated the child as any other, they may be seen as a little strange rather than damaged goods by their peers. However, society most certainly must address issues of harassment and abuse in other forms as well, extreme punishment should be administered as a result of bullying. If bullying and harassment was outlawed, ostracism of someone different would be far less common

  • 8:41 - Right fancy a bit of the old ruck and tuck, Danny dyers deadliest autistics

  • These people are absolutely retarded especially Tom's little brother. Don't treat him any differently because he's Autistic. Also, he doesn't have trouble learning he actually learns better, he just has trouble expelling what he's learned to us.. I know this because I am in the same exact position right now with my Autism.

  • 2nd guy has the cutest lisp :D

  • @livingsocks --- who tom??

  • If tom changed his diet he would be a lot better

  • I'm autistic 2 and weed opend/cured me , I stopt being shy and stuff, its like taking away your shy completely.

  • @manlytearsuk wats so funny bout it explain it

  • This is some funny shit.

  • I have Asperger's and had it since I was 3 years old, still struggling to find girlfriend as well as sexual issues and others...

  • i wana dance >>:D with them

  • british kids party weird but the blonde guys bro is hotttttttt

  • i have autism called aspergers and social communication disorder but i do like socialising though i am getting better so im getting reassessed so i can get in the army but dont pick on people with autism its who they r and they cant help it and if u think u have autism speak 2 some1 bout it dont be ashamed.

  • I remember catching this on beeb 3. It confirmed a lot of my belief of how parents mollycoddle there aspergers kids and keep there level of function pretty low for someone with aspergers. Alex is the best example of this. Experiencing love at a Walt Disney level works a token job for buttons.

His mum even admits she wants to keep him all to her self so he can take care of her. I seriously slap her in the face if i seen her. I have progressed up many levels of functioning. Because i was given

  • @ScotlandForever1986 the freedom to learn and progress.

  • I have a younger brother who is autistic and I still love him everyday!

  • @TheSipyCup I'm quite certain there's no correlation between "bad" parenting and autism. As for their decision to let their son attend a party; he's a relatively normal young man and they're treating him as such, I fail to see a problem. Just because he has a mental disorder doesn't mean he should be kept hidden away from the world and denied the opportunity to become a happy and functioning member of society. The same goes for the other two men featured in this documentary.

  • @KingTaco7 I totally agree with you.

  • @KingTaco7: Society, as it is, is not conducive to true happiness. It is self-destructive and doomed.

I consider Neurotypicals and their inane behavior to be largely irrelevent to me aside business and potential threatening situations.

  • @KingTaco7 someone his age should not be drinking.

  • @KingTaco7 Unfortunately many autistic people are treated like not completely human or adult, and shielded from the world and all its 'dangers'. If I wasn't the outspoken, critical thinker that I am my best friend and I would never have gone to Paris on our own this spring.

  • @KingTaco7 I'm not quite certain there's no correlation between 'bad' parenting and autism. I KNOW there's no correlation

  • @TheSipyCup All those kids at the beginning were 19, which is past the drinking age in England. And with parental supervision in private, the drinking age is 5. We don't know that they were on any illegal drugs, and with the BBC around with their cameras, I doubt they'd dare. They're within the law, and no one's getting hurt. That's hardly bad parenting. Autism isn't caused by the parent, it's something you're born with. And if the parents were bad, this kid would be a whole lot worse off.

  • @TheSipyCup You must not understand. People have autism at birth.

  • @TheSipyCup As a parent of a child who is on the Spectrum, I raise him like my other children. Which is what I see the parents in the documentary is showing. For you to say that "shitty" parenting is the cause for Autism, you couldn't be more wrong.

  • @TheSipyCup careful what you say there mate, Karma is a bitch

  • I would definitely hang out with Oli..music and history are two of my favorite subject.

We would definitely get along. He also seems like a really nice guy.

  • one of my younger brothers is autistic and he is gonna be 14 in March

  • Im 15 and I have Autism Spectrum Disorder, but im not this weird D;

I also use the excuse 'Because Im Autistic' :P

  • @iBeeJaysonaa I shudder whenever people use their autism as an excuse, it confirms stereotypes and makes us look pretty bad.

  • Tom's mum is fucking HOT!!!!!

  • bollocks681@shirleywicksfan Aspergers Syndrome,or whatever these experts call it, is a form of autism. I should know this because I have it.

  • I know he's autistic, but that tom kid's kind of a dick

  • I'd totally chill with Oli.

  • @DulBeat ditto ^_^

  • ....... Like you, you mean? You don't have autism, I presume, but you ARE disgusting saying vile stuff about autistic people.

  • @ValisFan4 thats very horrible

  • @ValisFan4 Keep your hate filled shit to your self.

  • @ValisFan4 ..you sir, are an asshole. and I live in America and trust me I love everyone for who they are. No matter what race you are. And no matter what you say, they are probably nicer than you

  • lol i now tom in real life and he is a f*cking prick this show makes him out to be all inocent and pitiful but in real life hes nothing like that and btw ive got adsactly the same thing as him i go to the same specilist school

  • Comment removed

  • i have autism ,life hard, but i stuck do drawing anime and got good at it.

  • I hate the way Autistic and Asperger people are treat differently from "normal" people (i have it).

  • @TheSchemer1 you have to realize these are very functional autistic people compared to a lot of autistic people

  • @xxsubzeroxxxx I know, but it's annoying how neurotypicals often assume that autistic people are in need of a cure and can't do shit when they can do certain things, better than neurotypical people in some cases.

  • those two don't really seem autistic to me.... I mean they seem to average people; Am I missing something?

  • @bbphnix again these are the very most functional austics some well never speek or ever be able to be Independence

  • omg olie has the same type of autism as me im into history

and and nature.. and tell me about it tom i was in one of the worst mainstream schools ever now im homeschooled

  • in my country we have to have a pass to be out in public alone if we get caught without that we can face months in prison

DONT COME HERE EVEN IF THERES U FULL SCALE WAR WHERE U ARE

    ESPECIALLY IF YOUR AUTISTIC

  • yup my doctor told me i was 2 maybey not full asbergers but just about gotta get tested

  • i'm autisic and my mum still talks to me sometimes like i'm still her baby boy but i am still her baby boy at heart and she just wants me to be happy and know that i always have her to love me if i have any problems, that something tom needs to understand

  • @thelashers Haha, I don't have autism and I get that too. Both from my mom and grandmother. It can be a bit embarrassing in public but all said and done it's kind of nice to have someone who's willing to baby you from time to time. After raising a child for 18-odd years it must be hard to see them as anything else.

  • 5:15 was so sad :(

  • Autistic people are LEGENDS!!!

  • @W0lfster yeah, there pretty fucking smart. once they set their minds on something, they perfect it.

  • @W0lfster cheers mate your a legend, if i can do it and be at university with autisum adhd and asperges syndrome and have deslixia anyone with my condition can make it

  • @thelashers

Autism and Aspergers??? But how can you be diagnosed with both? :O I was told that you can't have both.

    Please explain.

  • Ohh sorry that's Calvin Harris - I'm not alone

  • @SweetCupcakeLady Oh!! I FOUND IT already!!! Thank you!!

  • What is that music when Tom's older brother James invited friends and the party starts?

  • @RFyle119 Snow Patrol - Grazed Knees.

  • @SweetCupcakeLady I can't find it.

  • @SweetCupcakeLady. That music when the party starts?

  • Snow Patrol- Grazed Knees.

  • @SweetCupcakeLady Are you sure? I can't find it.

  • Me too.

  • tom u rule

  • @Sitheis2009 ah that'sokies XD and yes he defo is a fun guy to hang around with XD

I haven't met up with him outside the group plus I dun have his number either =/ so... yeah...

Anyway... do you have AS or something else? O.o me's just curious XD

  • @Sitheis2009 I don't know yet but I'll ask him tomorrow when I see him =)

I keep hearing that the BBC are going to be doing the next series of The Autistic Me at the PA group tomorrow XD so I'll ask him for ya =)

Someone else mentioned the next series being shown in may or something?

Also have you met him as well? O.o

All I can say about him is he's a very cool guy and very open about life =) and he's not afraid to be who he is in front of others unlike some of us (speaking for myself only XD)

  • Oh and btw: thank's for uploading, now I can watch it without people hogging the TV in other rooms XD

  • I didn't even watch the series because I wasn't sure about the use of the word "Autistic" in the title O.o

I have Asperger's myself and I have actually met the guy Oli, in fact I made friends with him two weeks ago in a Perfoming Arts group =)

I do hope to find a job also as it is, generally speaking, quite tough. Having AS can be tough under those circumstances as well. I know because I'm still searching for that elusive job =|

  • thank you for uploading this.

  • ARGH!! lol nooo i dont want this on youtube its embashing!

  • Autism was just a word until I first watched 'The Autistic Me' on television. I've been on a few websites, in order to understand the disorder a little more. I do hope that Oli, Alex, Kirsty and Tom have a bright future and I wish them all the good luck and understanding they deserve. It would have been well good if they'd show Tom playing his guitar!
