Another apostle of Jesus said this: (Ephesians 6:5) "Servants, be obedient to them that are your masters according to the flesh, with fear and trembling, in singleness of your heart, as unto Christ." Servants here means slaves... And the acceptance of slavery is also mentioned in Exodus, Leviticus, Colossians, 1 Timothy, Titus and 1 Peter. Are these the good deeds the Christian faith requires? A faith that condones slavery, murder and genocide is not a healthy one.
This video is misleading. James was not saying that faith without deeds is not saving faith. He is saying that without works, one is not saved. Works are part of justification.
James 2:24 - You see then that a man is justified by works, and not by faith only.
There is no such thing as a changed life by redemption, you are made a new creation. New creation people are made new not changed and no work can undermine or validate it to be true. James is strictly saying if you have faith active it has works but he is not validating salvation by works!
James was writing to Jews complacent opposite from Galatians who were adding works to salvation. But he was not teaching works vindicate faith. Saving faith solidifying atonement faith is not works That is egregious false teaching. Christ death cannot be vindicated by works. He just said works prove saving faith not James intent. Nothing validates saving faith but the death of Christ. Many are without works, saved. There are some for whom works are impossible.Men want works to see.
@polopowers1 What constitutes as works according to James? Because it seems like when people (not specifically you) bring up this verse its usually followed by some kind of "...and then I became a pastor" message. I agree that we should all spread the Gospel and make disciples of all nations. But does 'works' mean starting churches and becoming missionaries specifically? This may sound like a foolish question but im just at a loss right now...
@axemurderah17 all works should find the genesis of their motivation in virtue, namely fruit of the Spirit. All works are dead works not done by Spirit virtue. So can virtue be a work? In the sense of making sure I'm connected to Spirit not flesh in application. Are you flesh or Spirit? Because absent from sin and perfect a man still does not inherit the kingdom of God.Flesh and blood will not inherit the kingdom of God!
@polopowers1 I struggle with the flesh on a daily and its not an easy thing. Sometimes I fall... But I know that Christ is faithful even when I have not been. Sometimes my feelings misguide me. i feel like God's spirit isnt really in me and I end up feeling horrible. I've been unemployed for 2 years struggling with this. I know I cant fully comprehend God, I just want to know the specific will he has in my personal life. (Cont.)
Christ is not vindicated by works for Atonement faith.James is reproving Jews scattered who were complacent not doing works of faith. But James was never saying a changed life or works validate that a person is truly born again. This statement would have to be for everyone and it could not apply to everyone.Christ does not change lives by regeneration He gives new life.A regenerated mind brings a changed life and sometimes results in works. Christ death stands alone works or no works
The issue in James is not if someone is saved proved by their works, but if their works are profitable for the glory of the Lord in their walk. James is pointing to the time eventually when the believer will face their judge. Our goal should be to help the sinning saint prepare for that day. James 5:19-20 A believer who isn't walking in faith has a "useless" faith which will be burned up at the judgment seat of Christ, "yet he himself shall be saved; yet so as by fire." 1Cor.3:15 Terry Price
While waiting in a lineup to buy a ticket to the football game, Christ walks up to you and gives you a free ticket. You offer Him money but He says it is a free gift because of your faith in Him. You thank Him and proceed into the stadium. Since Christ paid for your ticket you decide to buy some lemonade for some of the young kids sitting around you. Buying the lemonade was a good work. It didn't get you into the game, Christ's free ticket did.
True, but, what are these "Works" that we need to have? You already know that it means that we must obey Gods commandments, but it means even more. If you take a look at (1Peter 2:21) you will see there that it says that Jesus set a model for us to follow. We know that when Jesus was here he preached, so we should do the same. In Matthew 24:14 it speaks about the "Good news" being "Preached" throughout the world. If no one was preaching, then the scripture would not be true.

I find this guy interesting. He likes Martin Luther, but Luther removed this book, calling it the book of straw. Now he defends it?

Sadly, only one religion actually follows the bible's principle when it said we must preach. That religion is "Jehovah's Witnesses".
