Damn I've been using my zi8 with the internal mic for a long time, and..

holy shit, i need an external mic. It's such a pain in the ass to make a video inside the car driving with the zi8's internal mic because it always silences out. This external mic in this video sounds pretty good.

@scfunnyehlol yeah an external mic can do wonders. The one I have has a little black wind screen thing so it blocks out most wind.

Not to take anything away from your reason for posting this video, but I am glad none of you decided to go on green after watching the pick-up truck run through the red light. I'm sure it obviously was an emergency for them to do so.

Also, I saw somebody had this mic on but it only had one channel. Did you split the audio or something? Or did that guy plug it in wrong?

@FutureInventions The guy must have plugged it in wrong. This mic (sony ecm ds30p) as well as the higher model 70p one both are stereo mics. His might have been an defect.

Does the mic use a lot of the camera's battery? Or doest the battery last about the same amount of time?

@techtipz27 I haven't done any tests but it doesn't use up a lot of the camera battery. My guess is that it will probably knock of 10 minutes of battery life on a single charge.

@metaknight1000 sorry for the late response but yeah the mic will stay on while on a tripod. there is no conflict between the two.

@CaptainCrust562 I kinda did a test but did not upload but believe me that it works well in the wind because it has a mini wind screen! It doesn't totally remove the wind noise but drastically reduces it. Sorry for the late response.

it does stick out on the side and does not sound weird. A lot of people buy the right angle connector for 5 dollars at radio shack so the placement of the mic would be better.

@radiotevee It does stick out on the side but the sound is still perfect. I kinda assumed the same thing about the sound before getting it and after I got it, it was not a problem at all.

yea it is the radio only. it's gud to invest in an aftermarket mic so the sound will sound much better even though i think the stock mic is gud enough wen there is no wind!!

that aside, how is the sony stereo mic mounted? was the volume of the radio the same in both mic test videos? was the mic facing the windshield in the other one, because you can barely hear the music at all compared to this!
