  • So you can update the gps so all the newest roads built are acknowledged by the gps without having to pay for the update?

  • @rcplanesofma24 That's correct. TomTom GPSs with 'M' designation in the model name have 'lifetime FREE map updates'. Which is pretty cool and can save you lots of money.

  • Hi, What is the difference btn 550 and 540 models?

  • Thanks for the review, I appreciate it. I decided on the 550 xxl though. Don't you hate how these things don't come with cases?

  • Can you change the voice on the gps. Also can you speak to the gps with a address rather then typing it in? Let me know thanks.

  • Thanks for the video.. I just bought mine and haven't yet had a chance to use it but I am excited :) I've had a go of GPS in family members' cars and it makes such a huge difference to confidence in driving to unfamiliar places.

  • Awesome review what camera are you recording with? Thanx

  • @nelson0110 I"m using FLIP Ultra HD. It's compact, easy to hold and shoots in HD. All the videos you see on my channel have been shot with a FLIP. see 'theflip' 'dot' 'com' for specs and more information.

  • wow I can do all that on my smartphone.

  • Hi:

Could you search by lattitude/longitude points on this unit?!

  • @tirou80 I'm not sure. I changed to a truck-specific GPS since the video was posted.

  • Did you put the a adhesive disk to install the gps on the window??? Mine keeps falling off. Thank you

  • @TheMADevANGELina there is a special way to do it, you gotta turn the thing, use the user guide its better at explaining

  • smd5231...thanks for this review. This was excellent , I;ve heard and read various reviews but all theory, yours was carried out in a real situation which shows how this gadget works.

Take care..Have A Happy New Year,2011. God Bless.

  • @nikbunnymen Glad you've found it useful. I can't imagine driving without a GPS now :) Happy Holidays.

  • smd, thanks for the review, wife got me this last night for Christmas, I like so far but cannot for the life of me figure out how to lock a zoom in place, if I zoom out it seems to auto-zoom back in. Also I thought this unit would allow for touch and move (itouch/iphone similar) panning. My wife and I both have MyGIG Nav units in our Jeeps and love the GUI. I'd appreciate it if you could let me know if this unit will lock on a zoom...or anyone for that matter than knows. And if it pans.

  • @SASQUATCHOFFROAD I drive a truck I changed that GPS later for a trucker specific model by Rand McNally. I'd try TomTom website. I think they should have a users' forum where you can ask around.

  • Thank you for this review. I'm shopping for a GPS. Your review is the best because it shows the device being used in a real world situation.

  • @dcbuckeye1001 I am glad you found it useful. I believe a GPS is as essential as a speedometer in a modern car or truck. In a few years they will be standard equipment on new vehicles. Until then we have to take matters into our own hands :)

  • The touch screen lags a lot. I got this for someone's birthday, and the screen lag is making the product look very crappy...

  • U R so cute

  • @bonifyjamaican you should have seen me when i was 25 :)

  • Would be kinda nice if the device had an auto complete feature to automatically fill in the name, for when you had to manually type in Starbucks.

  • Thank you for the review. On my current GPS (not TomTom) I see the adress and phone number of POI's found. I saw that the TomTom shows the phone number but is there any way to see the address of points of interest?

  • @Traybae31 I don't think TomTom shows the address on the same screen as the phone number. I think you'd have to select it as destination point to see that. But I don't have it with me now so I might be mistaken.

  • Sergey, I've been out of town for a few days. I see that the link to your blog is gone. Have you discontinued it? I will miss it. Hope there is some way you can keep us posted on your job situation, as well as your travels. Stay safe.

  • Is there any place on the screen to touch that will show you the upcoming turns ahead of time? My Garmins have this feature and wondering if this model does as well. I am thinking of getting this. thanks and your videos are very helpful.

  • @germanshepherd13 My previous (smaller TomTom) had it: if I touched on the arrow at the bottom left corner, it'd say the next instruction ("turn left in 10 km" for example). But on this new TomTom I haven't found it. It's a pretty basic feature. Should be there.

  • @smd5231 Thanks...I really relied on that feature on my Garmin...wish this model had it as well..

  • @DSMluke I'm doing my first run with this GPS in the truck and its 5" screen is really a blessing. The processor is faster than in my old model too: it calculates routes and re-routes very quickly. Thanks for the comment.
