This is not about over-population, few hundreds of meters away from this railway there is another market and lots of space still available. And this is not in Bangkok at all. This is in Samut Songkram, about 80 km South-west of Bangkok.

If you enter "Mae Klong Railway Station" at Google Maps, you can see it for yourself.

Still an amazing thing to see !

Apparantly the local council kicked the stall holders out of the old market area and built them a new one. In the mean time, the market moved to the only bit of available area ie the railway line. When the new market place opened, the rental was too high, so the market stayed on the railway line
