  • Amazing! Shes' super! She's my idol!

  • @violin12100: 2 - Not only the conductors set the tempo beats but they even – and this might come as a surprise to you - impose their own view of a piece onto the performance rather than just being responsible for ensuring beats, tempo, indicate the entries, make sure the dynamic are right etc. It's a violin concerto ok, but it's with the orchestra not a solo. Anyway, the tempo here was ok and I don't understand the fuss about it.

  • @violin12100: 1 - Your statement about the conductor of an orchestra "It's not up to the conductor or the orchestra to decide what tempo the soloist takes" it is completely wrong! The tempo and the soloist point of view on the performance is settled before performing a concert, in cooperation with the conductor. That is why you need rehearsals. It is not the solo player who directs but the conductor.

  • She plays from 8:25- 9:10 so nicely! Some people just rush through it way to fast...

  • WOW!

  • this tempo is new to me

    and it is GOOD!!

    but wt a pity

  • @amazinglazedonut It's not up to the conductor or the orchestra to decide what tempo the soloist takes. The conductor here is horrible and she was trying to communicate a tempo that any good conductor would have immediately understood. So it's not her fault.

  • @violin12100 I see no evidence that she was unhappy with the tempo and don't know what leads you to say the conductor is horrible! As a competition contestant there was probably limited rehearsal time, but the conductor and soloist do very well together here! Tempo is usually discussed beforehand and the conductor does his (or best) to follow the soloist!

  • Dear!

We would like to invite you to our INTERNATIONAL VIOLIN COMPETITON „Young Paganini” LEGNICA 7/8-10th April 2011

I have a request for you.

I wonder if you could help me to promote the contest among teachers,

students, and in schools. Maybe you could put some information send it to

    your friends or schools?

  • (In reference to the section starting at around 6:00) Wow, she either has HORRENDOUS rhythm/timing, or is a stubborn egotistical biatch who is totally inflexible to the orchestra and conductor's choice of tempo... May u fail Mayuko.

  • @amazinglazedonut orchestra and conductor's tempo!? its a VIOLIN concerto. She should be deciding how she wants it, primarily! Sounds to me as if she wanted it slower and the orchestra has completely ignored her and rushes ahead. As Joshua Bell says, it's alarming how brazenly opinionated some people are on youtube. Especially considering their ignorance.

  • inspirational!! i'm gonna learn violin soon, can't wait! i'm just damn excited. love 9:40 - end the most!!!!

  • Toyota :)

  • Today, play Schön Rosmarin und Liebesfreud in Buenos Aires!

  • Music is the universal language. No matter what race, ethnicity, gender, etc. We can all enjoy what a masterpiece this is.

  • Her music is beautiful, but somehow, she played with a sad face (very sad, actually)... I am just wondering if the emotions hidden behind this sometimes quite uplifting melodies are that painful...

  • @MrWorstpianoplayer I think 1st and 2nd movemnet are both sad. Would you smaile listening this movement?

  • @burgikukac I'm pretty sure you don't need anything in common with eastern europe to play this piece well. What exactly do you think is missing here? It's musical and it's played very romantically, exactly what Tchaikovsky would have wanted it to be.

  • @bluexxfire

so what? this is a totally misinterpretation of this piece. and it comes from that fact that this young lady has nothing common with eastern-europe. nor did nigel kennedy before he moved to krakkow. maybe he could play this piece perfectly now, his sense to this region improved well the last few years.

kamio doesn't understand tshaikovsky but she can play the violin well. if you think, this is racism, than the PC behaviour has eaten your mind.

  • @burgikukac Your comment is not racist, just asinine. By your logic nobody would properly be able to interpret this piece because they didn't live between 1840 and 1893.

  • her bow is flawless!

She uses every cm with grace and fluidity!

  • has she got any pizes at that competition ?

    beautifull !

  • @VioliNicco She won it.

  • Bravo!!!!!

  • A typical pedantic interpretation by an oriental violinist - their mannerisms are just as predictable as their phrasing....

  • @winrx Oriental refers to things, not people, you racist bastard.

  • @winrx

I'll like to see you do better.

As johntwebbjr said, Oriental refers to objects.

  • She should do theatre......

  • She Should do theatre...........

  • Best performance on this competition!)))

  • Not bad

  • sie macht dass echt prima :)

  • perfect!

  • simply amazing

  • perfect! wow

  • I just watched the runner up in this competition thinking that there wasn't a finer violinist out there who could possiblyhave been better, but I think she comes darn close. Both are phenomenal artists. The 2nd place winner was Nikita Borisoglebsky who played a Ysaye sonata. He will blow you away.

  • wow, you jackass

  • an incredibly refined performance

  • she enjoy herself, no wonder is so perfect and wonderful

just like Akiko Suwanai, they're both excellent!

  • it is a pity the tonequality is lost on youtube, but she plays wonderful!

  • who won that competition?

  • Mayuko Kamio, this girl you are watching right now : )

  • good

  • Passion wins !!! Yay!!

  • I love mayuko kamio!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • she's totally playing her heart out.

she's pretty much amazing i'd say.

  • she has another live performance on the bar on the right. It's even more impressive, if you can believe that.

  • At 06:54 the music and the camera view blend in together. The great Tchaikovsky! Haha I wonder what is he thinking when he wrote this piece.

  • scrape, scrape, scrape...but slowly.

  • What must it be like for the orchestra to play this same piece over and over. They were really off for the russian guy....

  • we can debate her performance all we want but the fact is, damn. she won tchaikovsky! she's got enough money and concert engagements to shut us all up now!! :P

  • Like her other Tchaikovsky it's sound to me like the tempo is slowed down a bit so she can get clearer notes. Compare to the Suwannai concert.

  • Tchaikovsky would carry Kamio around on his shoulders if he heard her play.

  • It might be the recording, but I still hear a lot of false notes. I still think the tempo is slower. However I'll let Tchai carry Kamio on his shoulders and I'll carry Suwannai!

  • stop giving goodchessactor bad comment reviews unless you dont know what he's talking about. It is a lot slower. there are a lot of false notes. for all you idiots out there, dont take negative comments as your ticket for pushing the down thumb sign. LISTEN FOR ONCE.

  • Thanks for your words. I didn't know anything about this thumbs up or down thing but I would never give anyone a thumbs down on their opinion. Like I said elsewhere, I have been listening to the Tchaikovsky for 40 years, and I follow it with the score. I have heard the greats like Heifetz, Menuhin, Stern and Perlman with enjoyment. I also know that in a live performance mistakes are made. The great Rubinstein said he could play another concerto just with the wrong notes he played!

  • Sarah Chang makes this so beautiful, but Mayuko Kamio throws so much expression in this it's incredible.

  • looks like she's crying at times..

  • at first i wasn't sure, but i def think that she should have won. Her souond is the best i think, and you can hear everything.

  • Magic with Tchaikovsky for sure.

  • I think this girl Mayuko is better (much better!) than her predecsssor, Akiko Suwannai. I'm sure of it. Suwanai plays mechanically; this girl seems to really feel the music.....

  • First of all, Suwanai wasn't her

"predecessor," unless you're referring to Japanese female violinists. Second of all, no way.

  • What a sound....is she trying to kill her strad or something?

  • Its is a ALOT of pressure and work to perform like that live. You put years of your life into these pieces.

    So shut up.

  • ... what kind of fucked up mind do you have?

  • I agree with bbj2captain. It's not easy to climb up to this standard. If you don't appreciate it you can keep quite and leave. Excellent showmanship she have.

  • Excellent performance. But I can't help but laugh at her funny facial expressions.

  • very well . very clear . powerfull.

  • Her facial expression looks like she's crying during the performance.

  • I think this is great.

I think the organizer did not choose a wrong person, although I agree that other competitors are also very good; it's hard to rank them somehow. Glad those young violinists gave us beautiful musical feelings and enjoyment.

  • hmmm, interesting shoulder-rest. I had never seen that kind. anyone knows the brand? as for the violinist, I should say that I think she is the most musical one among other contestants.

  • i think is the new korg shoulder

  • what violin method did she study?

  • とか言いつつちゃっかりお気に入りに入れてるのがちょっとウケる。

  • first price 2007.I wish I saw all the finalist for the competition. When I was listening to this I went into a trance and,I felt as if I was seeing Tchaikovsky and my tiny hairs at my back starts to stand up."send shivers down to my spine" as they say.I may not be a professional musician but I studied these composers in my youth ,and admire those who brings their composition to life.

  • she's veery good, but I still like Yuki janke the most... greetings

  • I love the way she sustains every phrase until awesome climaxes, but I think it would have been even more exciting if she had taken fast passages a faster and more rythmic, even if her lyrical and romantic way of playing them is just beautiful. Anyways, this is a great performance, no doubt!

  • superb, but I feel like it drags a bit

  • This actually is very good, I think. I've been learning the piano professionally since I was 3 (now I'm thirty) so, although I didn't become a pianist, I think I have a good ear. Well, yes, sometimes a bit rough but the tone quality reminds me of the mature David Oistrakh and I think she has a true future as a good violinist ahead of her.

  • I think some of the problem with people viewing this particular Concerto, is that they don't understand that Tchaikovsky meant for this to sound harsh in certain areas. Please do your research.

  • She is very good. Her interpretation and rendition of this concerto is unique. Especially, her presentation and solid performance teach me a lot as a violinist. After keep watching this video, more I watch, more I admire and acknowledge that she deserves the first prize.

  • I agree totally.

  • i'm not denying her skills as a violinist, but her style is just not to my taste. i agree with solveaporblem that it has no coloring, but she definitely has passion.

  • She played beautifully--better than most other violinists in the world. Not every winner of every competition will be as exciting as the last.

Nevertheless, she played amazingly. If you want to criticize, YOU try to learn this concerto and YOU put it up for criticism. See how YOU do under pressure

  • I agree. Most Youtube comments are getting more and more ridiculous. They know nothing about music.

  • 下手じゃね?諏訪内さんのが好きだよ俺

  • 好みの問題はいずれにしても、下手な人がストラディバリウス与えられて、チャイコフスキー国際で1位になれるかっての アホが

  • BRAVO BRAVO BRAVO

  • This sort of playing makes me feel ill. So heavy, no colouring. Why is it that this is the sort of playing that gets the prizes at competitions??

  • Because when you play lightly, people will think your playing is shy and weak--unless you have the reputation to back up your playing.

    This was her first shot.

  • The sound from ALL of your competition clips is quite harsh. Is the a problem at recording or are these violinists just too damn young? Some of them play on very good instruments, so this can not be an excuse. On the other hand, the sound of Suwanai's competition clip sounds decent enough.

  • her violin's a $2 million strad and her bow's a tourte...it should sound better than this performance......she's pressing like crazy with her bow arm. her intonation is good enough but seriously, she's no match to the previous winners. it's means that the level of the tchaikovsky competition is much lower.

  • her facial expression. looks like she wants to cum... but the thing is.. her playing isn't orgasmic at all.. hmmmm.. suwanai's and mulova's playing is orgasmic.. but they didn't have it during the bloody competition. this violinist sucks.

  • *yawn*

  • She looks like she's about to cry throughout the whole song. What's with that? And she doesn't really have a lot of appropriate expression...

  • "the sound of the violin is must better if it's like butterflies, she played it like tiger" -Gilvin

that's the funniest Best comment I ever heard!

  • Very solid playing!! Very good!! But unfortunately, not up to the artistic level of Suwanai, Ilya Kaler, Tretyakov. Or especialy Viktoria Mullova, who made a HUGE impression at me even when I heard her on TV after coming to the US sometime in 1985/6. I was age 5 and still remember that!! Winning this competition should find someone that is more than a very solid player, unfortunately.

  • To me, what I think, is her play is solid, good, but it has a lack of character, is like she prefers concentration instead of interpreation.

  • I think I know what it is. Being formerly in the classical music field AND being selected as one of the participants of the Tchaikovsky Piano Competition (junior division) in 1995 Sendai, it seems like she is under tremendous pressure.

  • she played it to heavy, the sound of the violin is must better if it's like butterflies, she played it like tiger

  • More like elephant. Her style is tiger, but her bowing and dynamics is like a elephant.

  • Does she use a strad?

  • Hands down, the best song... Tchaikovsky is a god.

  • word

  • This has convinced me: Suwanai > Her in every way imaginable.

  • Totally agree

  • She make me feel, Janke is cold and boring

  • You better see her live.

I had the chance today in Munich.

    She has so much energy

  • i think shes amazing. one of the most musical winners of this competition ever. and such a unique playing style. i'm really looking forward to her future recordings and what interpretations she brings.

  • boring

  • Decent performance, but way too heavy throughout the entire piece. Even in areas where the violin should be playing lightly and playfully, she's playing with too much force and expression.

  • She's really a good player... would really like to be there during the next compeition...

  • Que bien llegas a la gente!!! Eres, para mi, la mejor

  • i agree, her rendition is simply plain

  • so boring...like so many others...not a fresh single idea...pity, where are the MUSICIANS nowadays??!

  • good but not better than heifet's version and i saw her live...not bad but not virtuoso

  • she is hot

  • 1. She's not!

    2. It's Tchaikovksy competition not miss universe...

  • 1. She's not!

    2. It's Tchaikovksy competition not miss universe...

  • 1.why is it called miss universe, and why do we assume that humans are the most beautiful in the whole universe?

2.she's not even human, she's a playing machine, a shame to all artists everywhere.

  • 10 clowns; I agree totaly! I sorry if someone misunderstood me, i don't think she's ugly! She's rather pretty, i said "she's not" like "she's not ugly".

    And she play unbelievable well!

  • machines cant phrase music the way she did. and who are humans to judge other humans as you just did?

  • i hope she keeps working harder after this... she needs to :0. shes good. but can be better or else iw ouldnt pay to watch her perform

  • Congratulations on your winning the competition, Kamio-san! I wish you luck in your future career. Great performance.

  • These oriental violinists are such perfectionists! They always get all the right notes down! Bravo!

  • wow! awesome performance, very heartfelt.

    love this piece!

  • thank you so much for uploading this!
