Fallout 2 is one of the greatest RPGs of all time. Sure, the graphics aren't all great (even for its time they kind of sucked), but seriously. There's more to a game than that. Not everything needs to be turned into a realistic FPS (XCOM I'M LOOKING AT YOU)

I really like the look and feel of the first two games than any other in the series. In my opinion fallout 3 was a little too gray looking. Fallout NV, on the other hand, captured that classic feel though, which I really liked.
TBH I personally like New Vegas more than Fallout 2. The first Fallout was good since it was just starting out and there was room for improvements down the line with lore. F2 didn't really "improve" much though, it was kinda like an extra long mission pack. NV had interesting characters and plot, and more RPG than F3. Fallout 3 was not really an RPG to me, there was less focus on stats and story and more on blowing the enemy limbs off. Felt very short too. F2 is still better than Tactics though.
Wow, the only Fallout game I've played is F3, this is way different. To all those Pre-Fallout 3 fans, I apologize for all the mentally ill children who bash a game because they haven't tried it.
So is the whole game like this or did the guy just pick bad clips? The game look really boring, but I guess it would since it's 10 years behind Fallout 3.
@Starr3712 Yep. What you see is what you get, and this won some awards back then too. This right here, was what defined a good game in this time period. It wasn't about killing everything, and in a matter of fact, taking the time to kill things would actually hurt the player in the long run when they waste resources. The idea was immersion, the player had to make tough choices and follow his heart/playstyle. The game required reading a book's worth of text from NPC's before moving forward too.
@Nazrat84 The game does look pretty impressive knowing how old it is, but after playing Fallout 3, it will probably be hard for me to get use to the point and click game. I never was much of a computer game guy anyway. I fell a lot more comfortable using a controller to play a game.
@Starr3712 Yeah that'll happen sometimes. I played Chrono Cross before playing Chrono Trigger, and I absolutely hated Trigger. It's hasn't aged with the current style of games at all. It wouldn't be impossible for the current Fallout developers to port these games to Xbox or PS3, but I can only imagine the amount of complaints they would get, and considering that this game requires the mouse to be moved around A LOT (doing everything), it might be a bit annoying for people that use thumbsticks.
@Nazrat84 Right, there's no way Bethesda would make Fallout 3 like Interplay made the first 2. Betheda makes games that can be enjoyed on either PS3, 360, and PC and a point and click game just isn't realistic for consoles.
@Starr3712 But it was at the cost of Alienating the hardcore fans of these first few Fallout games. My issue with Fallout 3 was that it wasn't really "Fallout." There was more shooting than I expected, and the story was very Black and White. (me good, you evil, etc) The RPGing was iffy too.
If you WANT to know what the story telling and style was like for Fallout 2 but keep the First Person aspect, I suggest picking up New Vegas. Its a more legit RPG, and was made by Obsedian, the maker of this
@Nazrat84 I didn't like New Vegas as much as Fallout 3. Sure, the story was interesting, but everything else just seemed pretty much the same as Fallout 3. I liked to idea that you could choose the ending and the factions in the game, but I just didn't enjoy playing it as much as Fallout 3. My favorite RPG of all time is probably LOZ: Ocarina of Time
@Nazrat84 Well granted it is not completely an RPG but is does have a lot of RPG elements in it. Exploration, looting, becoming more powerful as the game progresses, ect.
@Nazrat84 I think the whole term role-playing game is a bit objective. The term role-play means to assume the attitudes, actions, and discourse of (another), especially in a make-believe situation in an effort to understand a differing point of view or social interaction which most game can appy. RPGs mean an expansive world, treasure hunting, some sort of leveling system, and the ability to make decisions in the game. All of those things apply to LOZ OoT except the last one.
@TheMysticMushrooms A bigger focus on becoming stronger and better via stats and equipment than destroying all living things. A more choice oriented story, with every choice having an effect. Non linear play style. A world were everybody has a story to tell.
@Thesk8terbrian Actually, it's always been an RPG, Fallout 3/New Vegas are the only First-Person Role Playing Games in the Fallout franchise. I just think you should know now that Fallout 3/New Vegas are not classified as FPS games either way, since there is a Third-Person option, and that it focuses more on the character development than shooting. By your logic, the ENTIRE Elder Scrolls series are FPS, despite them being labeled RPG's, being the main selling point of Skyrim.
@Nazrat84 Actually, the ENTIRE Elder Scrolls series are NOT FPS games, Oblivion and Skyrim and the other TES games aren't first person SHOOTER. Shooting bows and fireball magic doesn't count as shooting... because FPS usually means shooting guns on first person display, so I guess you can call The Elder Scrolls games a FP-RPG.

@JamieLloydFan14 Fallout 1 and Fallout 2 are made by Black Isle Studios( They are not active anymore due to some of the members left), Fallout 3 is made by Bethesda they bought the title and used the engine from Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion, the Fourth title is made by Obsidian( Formely Black Isle) and Published by Betheshda

you should be a melee character, head to that mining town with strength 10 or buffout and beat the mutant get the power fist. You could even go to san fransico from the jump and get mk 2 but get the car first becuase it is killing the timespan, plau you will get fucked up in the wasteland.
Okay, I'll admit that bethesda kinda went away from the traditional fallout (it was still a decent game though) and to some people the old fallout's might be too slow paced, but some of these comments make me want to put my head through a wall.
I fucking loved these games, it's a shame bethesda got hold of them and casualised, consolised and completely ass raped them. Obsidian did a nice job with NV though, probably one of the best of the series IMO. I hope Obsidian does Fallout 4.
@IRL337Gamer To be fair, Bethseda saved the Fallout series and without them their wouldn't be this renewed interest in the originals. They did an amazing job and the majority agree with me on that. Yes I love New Vegas even more but alot of what we see in that is the result of Bethseda's innovations
im thinking about playing it because i love games that have any sort of tactic, lvling system, and items. im 19 and i wasnt around to really know about this game back then and i feel like i was left out so i want to go back and play the fallout games and have fun with them like you guys did
I like the new fallout games, but I wish the VATS system allowed you to work the game more like how the old games played so that you execute more actions and actually command allies :)
Is this game partially turn-based? It looks like enemies are taking turns moving, instead of all at once. Either that, or its the game's version of the VATS system. Or maybe the game is just jerky. Whatever the case, graphics certainly don't make the game, but gameplay does, and from what I can see in this video, gameplay doesn't look very good to me.

(I also like how you can ride a car because I see a lot of ruined cars in the recent games and thought it was a pity you couldn't do anything with besides blowing them up...)
How the fuck can anyone think these graphics are bad? Sprite graphics are beautiful and timeless, they don't age the same way as 3D graphics do and in my opinion have more soul in them. Do these people think that, for example, the first Sonic games look bad too? What the hell.
pretty sophisticated for a '97 game...also about people arguing over this and new games, times change and so do games it's nothing to fight over, my generation is just used to seeing really sophisticated stuff and we are kind of weirded out by 2D stuff. In my opinion this is the building block to what a great game Fallout is to play nowadays. Happy Fallout !
1 example of how awesome this game is: You could create a character with no intelligence, and you couldnt even talk to the npcs.. and still there were ways to finish the game.. how awesome is that.. Fallout 2 was about freedom of choice, you could play it with an incredible variety of skills and it was still fun and viable, plus it was full of dark humour and violence that would be censored in current games. It was GOOD,very FUN, INCREDIBLE replayability!
Actually I did enjoy teh x-com series, alot! but fallout is still the best game ever, as the current games will have the same impact on the kids playing now when they are adults some day and are playing even worse dumbed down games with reality alike graphics and crazy interface controllers.
New kids cant and wont enjoy this, dont bother trying to convince them, it requires reading the text on screen, paying attention to the dialogs and all that stuff nobody does anymore... It is still the best rpg I ever played and fallout 3 is pretty bad compared to this classic pearl, NV is a huge improvement but still hasnt reached F2 geniality. And prolly never will for several reasons like censorship. I dont remember any other game I've replayed dozens of times and enjoyed every single time.

@ahoterulestheworld basically fallout 1 and 2 1997-1998 this was the classic it then went into spin offs with similar play style eventually we finally get 3 which is up to date and created by the people who made oblivion so they changed the design of it otherwise if fallout 3 came out in i dunno 2000 or 1999 it would probably be similar to fallout 1 and 2

@Starr3712 But it was at the cost of Alienating the hardcore fans of these first few Fallout games. My issue with Fallout 3 was that it wasn't really "Fallout." There was more shooting than I expected, and the story was very Black and White. (me good, you evil, etc) The RPGing was iffy too.
If you WANT to know what the story telling and style was like for Fallout 2 but keep the First Person aspect, I suggest picking up New Vegas. Its a more legit RPG, and was made by Obsedian, the maker of this

@Nazrat84 I didn't like New Vegas as much as Fallout 3. Sure, the story was interesting, but everything else just seemed pretty much the same as Fallout 3. I liked to idea that you could choose the ending and the factions in the game, but I just didn't enjoy playing it as much as Fallout 3. My favorite RPG of all time is probably LOZ: Ocarina of Time

The term role-play means to assume the attitudes, actions, and discourse of (another), especially in a make-believe situation in an effort to understand a differing point of view or social interaction which most game can appy. RPGs mean an expansive world, treasure hunting, some sort of leveling system, and the ability to make decisions in the game. All of those things apply to LOZ OoT except the last one.

@Thesk8terbrian Actually, it's always been an RPG, Fallout 3/New Vegas are the only First-Person Role Playing Games in the Fallout franchise. I just think you should know now that Fallout 3/New Vegas are not classified as FPS games either way, since there is a Third-Person option, and that it focuses more on the character development than shooting. By your logic, the ENTIRE Elder Scrolls series are FPS, despite them being labeled RPG's, being the main selling point of Skyrim.

Shooting bows and fireball magic doesn't count as shooting... because FPS usually means shooting guns on first person display, so I guess you can call The Elder Scrolls games a FP-RPG.

Is this game partially turn-based? It looks like enemies are taking turns moving, instead of all at once. Either that, or its the game's version of the VATS system. Or maybe the game is just jerky. Whatever the case, graphics certainly don't make the game, but gameplay does, and from what I can see in this video, gameplay doesn't look very good to me.

1 example of how awesome this game is: You could create a character with no intelligence, and you couldnt even talk to the npcs.. and still there were ways to finish the game.. how awesome is that.. Fallout 2 was about freedom of choice, you could play it with an incredible variety of skills and it was still fun and viable, plus it was full of dark humour and violence that would be censored in current games. New kids cant and wont enjoy this, dont bother trying to convince them, it requires reading the text on screen, paying attention to the dialogs and all that stuff nobody does anymore... It is still the best rpg I ever played and fallout 3 is pretty bad compared to this classic pearl, NV is a huge improvement but still hasnt reached F2 geniality. And prolly never will for several reasons like censorship. I dont remember any other game I've replayed dozens of times and enjoyed every single time.

@ahoterulestheworld basically fallout 1 and 2 1997-1998 this was the classic it then went into spin offs with similar play style eventually we finally get 3 which is up to date and created by the people who made oblivion so they changed the design of it otherwise if fallout 3 came out in i dunno 2000 or 1999 it would probably be similar to fallout 1 and 2
