oh my, you can't tell? if you are listening to lionel richie or diana ross then they are not your contemporary black singer. however, CONTEMPORARY black singing (from whitney and on) does a lot of diaphragm activity filled with slurs off of the melody. if you would try to harmonize with this type of singing, (say alto part), you would have a difficult time because of the over movement from the melody. but everyone here who'd lived in the 80's could tell this is neo black style.
