@MGSoldier actually a great deal of America's involvement in global wars is because they are competing in global influence with both China and Russia. A good example of this is the occupations of Iraq by the US, and Georgia by Russia. As far as China goes however they are in a geographic placement to where they can not nor really need to follow the same strategies as Russia and the US, they already have a hold of influence through their economic might.

They haven't really done anything else in the course of those 7 long years except they hanged Saddam in 2003 (which took over 3 years) and of course US troops have fucked goats, half-dead prisoners in Abu Ghraib and killed civilians, but that is hardly "competing" for the global influence.

@MGSoldier a good explanation for the US still in Iraq would be they are just not capable of surviving with out our assistance. The president of Iraq at the moment is contemplating asking a formal request to Barak Obama to keep 7,000 US troops to aid the Iraqi military after our upcoming pullout. Also if you look at the history of Haiti, it would be of a similar situation. The French ruled Haiti for a time as one of its colonies then just got up and left, leaving no help. Now Haiti is a hell.
