@Viverito. Go easy on others comments. Domingo is a fantastic performer and does an outstanding Otello.  However, I do agree that Mario Del Monaco IS Otello. His studio recordings of the work are outstanding. If his stage performances are that much better, WOW. I never saw his stage efforts of Otello. However, I PROUDLY own the later studio recording of Del Monaco's Otello.

e' vero Andrew. Anche io mi emozino spesso ascoltando MDM: trasportato nella meraviglia dal suo timbro emotivamente accattivante. Ma, attenzione: si provano emozioni violente, dure, aggressive, stentoree, monocordi, visceralmente, incontrollate, esteticamente poco raffinate; e, dunque, in qualche modo volgari. Vi sono poi emozioni che nel canto (in realtà nella vita) vengono espresse in modi più contenuti, controllati, sofferti; in modi meno plateali e più nobili. OK?

"E tu come sei pallida e stanca... " ecc. Del Monaco tenta si supplire alle carenze di tecnica vocale, ai fini interpretativi, con inflessioni e accenti del linguaggio parlato. Singhiozzi ed esclamazioni non previsti dallo spartito musicale non solo soltanto un mezzo ignobile per tentare di rendere una linea interpretativa, ma uno strumento nefasto sul piano educativo vocale.

Del Monaco ad esempio, ignorava le VERE mezze voci e ignorava i FILATI, per "tacer dell'altro".

ascolta i robot allora, le emozioni che è riuscito a regalarmi del monaco non sono comparabili a quelle di altri tenori, la sua "vesti la giubba" è espressività totale anche se di tecnicamente ce ne sono di migliori.

Las personas como tu no saben lo que dicen. primero que no habia modulacion en la voz de Del Monaco. y cuando escuchan algo como esto se siguen quejando. No seras un cantante frustrado? Un caposaldo dell'opera lirica!!! In particolare nelle sole due parole" secondo me si racchiude tutta l'espressione drammatica di Otello; egli si volta, vede Desdemona e qui si accorge del suo fatale errore. Grandissimo maestro Del Monaco.

Absolutely the greatest Otello I ever hope to see or hear. Am I alone in thinking Del Monaco's live performances are far superior to his studio recordings? I don't think the microphones could do justice to this voice, and he didn't have the stage to inspire him.
