hey man, you don't need any AA when running the game on your display's max resolution... to be precise, it's technically impossible to make it smoother when every single pixel is in use, so it makes no difference ;)

Full-scene anti-aliasing by supersampling means that each full frame is rendered at 2x or 4x the display resolution, and then down-sampled to match the display resolution. So a 4x FSAA would render 16 supersampled pixels for each single pixel of each frame. This eliminates jagged edges, so your 'can't get better quality than max display resolution' arguement isn't really true and you can definitely improve image quality by running AA on your monitor's native resolution.
