  • willie doesn't rush the beat--he ANTICIPATES the beat...he starts and finishes on time--he just doesn't do it on even beats...if you don't like it, that's your choice...willie has made a nice living for several years doing it HIS way, so MOST people must like it...either that or they keeping paying big bucks to see him and buying his recordings to try to acquire a 'taste' for the way he performs...if you think you can do it better, bring it on...it's hard to argue with his success, eh?...

  • Outstanding.... Two of the best, Jimmy Day and The Red Headed Stranger

  • I have been playing telecaster in bands for many years and I can tell you that there is nothing more agrivatating than a singer who rushes the tempo . This is one of the few videos that I have ever seen of Willie actually singing in tempo. usually he is through singing before the band has unpacked their instruments.maybe he is senile .or high on merriewannnaa.

  • I like Willie but he can't hold a candle to Bobby Helms singing Fraulein. Just seems like a natural for Bobby Helms.

  • Steve, I love listening to singers with idiosyncratic phrasing like Willie or Frank (I like Frank's better, he uses it to boost emotional impact like nobody else), but it's gotta be hell to back up someone like that: you never know when the fills should happen

  • Great song of mine. Only thing Willie drives me crazy rushing the words into place. I know it's his traditional way of singing but sometimes it takes away from the song.

  • Great!!!

  • Too slow

  • @Flashback50s . I think the original was to fast , this is just the right tempo .

There was/ is a trend for bands ( especially British bands) to play fast they thought it was clever to do that , " look how fast I can play".

  • Awesome

  • With this crew, you can bet the dance floor or isles were full of dancers!

  • Great performance of this great song, thanks for this posting.

  • he plays the melody

  • The brilliant Danny Levin on fiddle!

  • jimmy Day one of the very best!

  • @samlover6969 . Yes one of the very best steel players , loved the way when he was halfway through the turnaround he looked over to the fiddle player waiting to see if he was going to take the second part then he just laid out and let the fiddle take it to the next verse........I think jimmy was ready to do the whole thing but when the fiddle started playing he weighed it up quickly, just a brilliant top of his game musician.

  • Yeah willie is great, and what a great band he has there with one of the legendary pedal steel guitar players Jimmy Day.

  • What a great song and a great performance. Willie will always be one of my biggest heroes. Thanks for posting!
