Great video, useful information in plain english that is easy for beginners to understand, but not too dumbed down for more experienced networkers. Also non of the super large ego that Pirillo has.
some great information here, i'm studying for a computing degree and networking is one of the modules and perhaps my future career. your videos are helping, great stuff!
Iam looking at setting up a home network for 3desktop computers.
This will mainly be used for small size file and printer sharing purposes (not for the internet). Is wireless still a better option over wired for this circumstance???
i'v moved to this new flat,my lattop catch some wireless networks,i'm would wonder if any one could tell me how to connect to them coz they always ask for 'bypasskey' ,password or somthing...
It is all about reducing the radius of the signal. This can be done by reducing the signal strength, directing into an absorbing medium (moist ground), etc. Sure you see a lot of wireless networks when wardriving, we all do. You won't see the ones that are properly designed until you are right on them. Of course, you should always configure security on you AP, but the best method is to use a layered approach.
foil is not gonna stop the hackers and war drivers necessarily how do i know this i war drive my self and just like your parabolic wireless router i have made a parabolic wifi usb and if you point it at the right spot of the house with the wireless network its easy to join there network i like a wired network it may be expensive but its safer if you know a way to stop ppl with wifi parabolic usb's post a video
thanks man. I really needed that. Tomorrow is my midterm Introduction to Networking exam. Though this video doesn't cover it all (only a chapter), but still
I enjoyed your into to wireless vid. I was just thinking the Linksys website has a great Learning Center area for people. Have you had a chance to check it out ? It goes into talking about: Network Basics, Network Security, Connected Home and a Glossary too. Check it out if you haven't.

It's refreshing to see someone that is fond out a common sense explanation in plain English rather than the use of geek speak and confusing acronyms.

Eh, I prefer huge encryption keys and MAC filtering. =) One of these days I'll be watching YouTube while doing laundry in the basement. =)
