Hi, I am a Voice Actor, and if I may offer the following: The background music is a bit too loud, and obscures your narration. You also need to slow down your pace in reading. Impact of what you wrote is lost.
The information and layout are good, but with all respect the narration is too fast and sounds too flat in tone, and may have too much info packed in. Also, the balance with the music has the tuneage competing too hard with the narration--particularly during lyrical parts, of course. You can fade it up in between sections of the narration, but pull it back during the talk.
Sorry dude, you mumble too much when you narrate. You can't just talk in your normal voice when you do a narration. It has to clear and with emphasis on particular words - like a newsreader. The music is waaaaaay too loud.
Great video people need to make more documentary s about the 60s and the yippies. Ive seen some but most of is bull shit they always say it was naive of people to act the way they did in the 60s and that it was pointless. Kids need to see the truth not propaganda. Our government definitely doesn't want another 60's but I say Hell Yes
while at the pentagon recently we were attacked by fascists on motorcycles i have small footage, but either way i left after meeting hundreds of family. i was give 2 of the original purple and pink yippie buttons.some months later again at the pentagon i was offered 100$ for that pin by a "yippie elder' i think it was a test ha i think i passed i refused the sale. we need to wake up before the war is too big to see. yippie for president.
protesting the SOA one year at the pentagon, we got the parade grounds where about 600 of us gathered, which was two sides around the pentagram. Then on our way out the police panicked and wouldn't let us leave they way we came. Which meant circling the other three! We were the first group allowed to circle since the famous lev. !!! Yippie !!!
hi i am doing a similar project for my history class and would request your permission to show your video to my class as i give my speech as a reference, i will of course cite you and everything. i wishi had thought of doing it this way but im going to be doing a live speech with pictures that i glued on posterboard
As an old hippie I found your film to be quite good and one that I hope a lot of young people will see and become inspired by. Good history lesson. It was great to be reminded of the audacity and power of the anti-war movement. I long to see it again today. Just like everyone else I think the narration needs to be redone with someone else. And perhaps have some of the music without narrator talking over it. Thanks for the effort.
the topic's good :) I do agree that the narrater could be louder/clearer and the bg music is a bit too loud. other than that I think it's well made :)
Thanks for your opinion. I'm probably going to end up redoing the documentary and narrating it myself, and seeing if I can't even get a professionaly narrator to do it.
We agree with cuddlyable3 about the narration being slurred and that it dilutes the effectiveness of a good script. It's cool to sound casual and young like the narrator does, but you need to do it in a way that's punchy and clear--listen to Abbie and Jerry! Fantastic rhetorical artists/performers. Sounds a bit too valleygurl/boy. Background music maybe a bit too loud, overpowering the narration track, too.
Thanks for the input. That's the general tone we've been getting from everyone. I'm thinking about redoing the entire project this winter to fix all these problems.
For a draft documentary this is good. The narrator's diction is slurred and that should be fixed because it spoils intelligibility of the good script. For more material you could throw in some Abbie Hoffman quotes. Pauses in the background music would be nice too.
They couldn't stick around after the "black sheep" of some families took them to court for being racist, I mean that's kinda like the Brazillian guy trying to sell aircraft here in 1903. ;) Yeah. Their kids THOUGHT they were cool but after Columbine? LOL! Like warm apple pie, eh gents?
"Revenge" for Nazis not pwning Pachucos (thank you, television). That's when everything became pro-urban and bunches of butts were kissed on the side of the guy who founded the Black Panthers who WASN'T silenced in the DNC trials. This is why now they think themselves "cool" amongst the "original" metalheads and sell real estate. Either that or burn books the non-bonfire way by doing taxes for a living.
The yippies went to canada after scamming money here, pissed off some native americans by getting donnie and marie to claim pride by wearing turquoise, eventually came home after getting amnesty (their version of the nixon pardon), and crapping themselves when George Jung and the Colombians made lots of money. It was a dick move to fuck the white guy *BUT* Mexicans (i.e. not the LATINOS responsible) got called bad guys for it.
Great video. You did this for history fair? So kick-ass. I did euthanasia once. My display board was a coffin. Anyway, awesome video. I love Jerry Rubin.
I thought it was well made, and I'm glad you talked about 'Steal this Movie'. Thats is a great movie. Nice music, but I would probably re-do the voiceover, louder, clearer, but other than that.
Excellent film, young men! The only advice I would offer would be to lower the volume on the background music just a little because it's making the narration a bit difficult to understand.
Good job.

You need to decrease the volume of the background music. It competes too much with the narrator's voice.

very nice, but for non-english speakers and listeners the narration is very hard to understand...
maybe because the yippie sound alike and the little loud back songs.... so, speak clearer ou putting subtitles would help a lot.
thanks for the post

don't listen to these guys, what you want to hire some voice who doesn't care about what you have to say
stand up and cry theater in a crowed fire ABBIE fought for your right to do so and say fuck it clears the soul
keep the narrator have him say FUCK at least 18% of the time turn up the music spray everybody with purple
then abbie would be proud Abbie died the same person he was in 1967, Hoffman & Garica never sold out cashed in or drifted away

I think you kind of have to realize that Jerry Rubin became a stock broker before he died.
MKFaizi 4 years ago
I don't necessarily see that as a disservice to being a Yippie, though. I mean, it's rather ironic, but traitorous? No.
icantthinkofanything 4 years ago
I reckon. But at the time I thought we were having a revolution so that we would not need money anymore.
MKFaizi 4 years ago
Coming from someone who talks...a lot, I'd suggest a firmer voice, but at the same time not corny or hammed. A balance, I guess. A good film though.

Definitely needs a remix of the audio. An old-style deep voiced stentorian narrator would add a wonderful element of humor to it as well.
