  • Their love is so believable too... :/

  • I have been looking for this performance for more than 20 years and stumbled across it today (11/5/11). I remember seeing this episode of Gimme a Break back in the 1980's. I loved this song then and could never manage to see that episode again. And here we have it - great song and great version from two wonderful singers!! Thank you for posting this!

  • Both of them are awesome! They both sound terrific!

  • This song always lifts me up.............!

    Thanx andysdesire for sharing.

  • At least, these two are here to delight us although they both left way too soon

  • i this song ppl

    ilove these ppl

  • Rest in peace, Nell

  • Happy birthday Nell Carter

  • Happy birthday Nell!

  • THE CHIEF LOOKS ANNOYED HOW HORRIBLY LOUD HIS HOUSEKEEPER SOUNDS

  • I have this episode on vhs that i copied off of wxix tv about 25 years ago, it was a great show. Nell looked good back then.

  • @rick62173

I agree this is a great show! I wish there were more like it today!

  • allways love life, great video.

  • Good GOD, that boy was pretty!

  • Classic 80's material. Thank you for the upload it brings back so many wonderful memories growing up as a child back then.

  • What an inspiration ....Andy gibb and Nell carter with her soprano voice ...im deeply touched i remember seeing this when i was a kid...back in the 80s when it first aired thnx for posting ..

  • BEAUTIFUL DUET RIP BOTH OF YOU!!!

  • Love this woman's Voice!!! None like it since

  • @privatedancer06 Agreed! I grew up watching Gimme a Break and it's a shame that she was stolen from us! R.I.P Nell Carter.

  • It's amazing how good this version is. Good as any other.

  • Parker HS alumn, Nell Carter-

..we love you & still have you in- heart- ..especially our choir. We know you're introducing Andy to Mr. (Perry) Anderson (PHS choir instructor) & making sure that all of your influences remain in the flow-

    ..we remember you all!

  • I love the way Nell Carter sings! RIP Nell! I love ya!

  • can some please upload the episode when loses all this weight and she has a crush on her weight loss consouler and her friends rats her out It's called "A Way To A Man's Hear

  • Love it! Two such talented singers!

  • Does anyone know about the musical Nell Carter co-starred in the 70s titled "Cindy" and where to obtain a copy please contact me. Thank you. It was the only production of an all black casted Cinderella story shown once. I was 18 - now 52 and it was never re-broadcasted. It was a magnificent production with A 4 star ratings and a treasure. Like so many great made-for-tv movies they're in the backroom. Queen of the Stardust Ballroom was another gem and hard-to-fined. Thanks for helping.

  • He who's star shines brightest burns half as long. RIP Andy!

  • I really like this video, I think it represents the real Andy and not just the superstar. It must have been wonderful to share his life on a daily bases and be considered one of his friends. I will miss him forever.

  • Rest in Peace too two dynamic talents! Sing it Nell!

  • "that's my Nell" we all feel that..... you are so missed.... what a voice.

  • @Love4SK I agree....Andy could sing with anyone!!! Love him and miss him!

  • Andy and Nell sounded great....and Andy looked just as cute as ever!!

  • Gone to soon...... God Bless

  • This is a really fantastic duet. Should have been shipped to radio. :(

  • Never could listen to nell sing without getting goosebumps!!!!

  • RIP Nell and Andy :-(

  • Thank you Nell for bringing such JOY into the World....... Rest in Joy Nell!!!!!!!! You are loved and missed,,,,, you are in my heart and you made a differance......with your talent and your gift of life....... Thank you GOD for her presence...

  • I remember when this show aired for the first time. It was weird to know that both of these talented people are gone now.

  • I like this song, since I heard it for the first time - but NOW I LOVE it!!!!

Andy surprised me everytime again and again and again .....

I'm so sad, that he never can sing new songs for us and make us dreaming.

  • Love this. thanx 4 posting. Great video that brings back so many memories.

  • Such magic from such angelic voices...amazing...I love this version..sends chills up my spine..they both sang with such passion....thank you Nell and Andy and RIP

  • LOL! To the person who says the other Bee Gees look like frogs!! Robin is not conventionally good looking, granted, but Barry was a real stunning looker when he was younger and still aint too shabby these days either! Andy was the sweetest thing ever though!-agreed on that one! But really, as far as talent is concerned and actually being a good person, what do looks matter? All the Bee Gees were ace!!! Miss you always sweet Andy.....

  • What a voice!!! I wonder if she ever recorded, does anyone knows????

  • @trl614 Nell; Carter was a very famous star of broadway. Yes, she recorded.

  • Can't wait for Season 3 to come out on DVD! If I remember right, it wasn't too far into the season when Andy appeared. It is a CLASSIC moment in T.V. history!

Thanks so much for posting Andysdesire! Won't EVER forget the cast of Gimme A Break.

  • God.... Andy was so hot and sexy. The ONLY goodlooking Gibb. All the others look like frogs. RIP Andy.

  • magical.

  • Thanks for posting, can't wait for Season 3 of Gimme a Break to come out on DVD

  • that generation of actors are gone or very old. There is only one living Gibb. I miss the good ole days when things were simple and magical. I am proud to be a part of that generation.

  • Well there are actually two living Gibbs left. Barry and Robin.

  • @tarapup12 Actually there are two...Barry and Robin are alive and well and just performed on the Season Finale on American Idol....that performance is on yt as well....yes...nothing can match the music of that generation...Andy GIbb was a timeless, classic performer...RIP Andy....you are not forgotten..

  • I loved this show. I always wanted Nell to be my big sister, she was such a loving person. I cried when the show ended and when she passed I couldnt believe it. She is missed!

  • This performance is just magic!! They are both so talented!!! I love how she swoons and about passes out at :58! Andy had that effect on women and still does! I've never heard a man sing love songs with such emotion as Andy did! Love that man! I agree they are both singing with the angels now! RIP to both! You are missed!!!!

  • c'mon andy, nell's drowning you out

  • Hard to believe this episode is getting close to the 3 decade mark!!!Where has time gone?No matter this episode, this show and those 2 wonderful performers are and always will be timeless!!

  • Thank you for posting this. All I can say is WOW Two major talents with angel voices. RIP Niel and Andy. Wish you werehere. Love, MISS ROBIN

  • thanks for these special video , it brings back great memories!!! real music is timeless

  • I went many years ago to see Nell Carter in concert with a best friend of mine. Nell and my best friend have passed on, but will be remember, as we all remember Andy Gibb. This is a special video. Thank God for recordings. Without them, we would only have memories to depend on.

  • I'm not exactly sure when this episode originally aired, but my late husband recorded this on VHS for me about 20 years ago. I still have the cassette, one of my most beloved possessions!

  • Andy didn't commit suicide. He died on March 10,1988 at the John Radclliff hosptal at 8:45 a.m. London time.He died of a heart ailment from his years of doing drugs. He just turned 30 years old on March 5th.

  • So young, I forgot how young........so sad.... he and Nell are singing together again now....

  • andy gibb did this show gimme a break in 1983 i think or 1985, so how could they say in memory of him, when andy passed away in 1988 of heart inflammation, a disease he had for years, not suicide.

  • Wow, I haven't seen this since it aired back in 198-ehem. As I remember it (or mis-remember) Mr. Gibb committed suicide shortly before this epidisode aired. . .so sad. In the original broadcast, after this scene faded to black, they left "In Memory of Andy Gibb" God bless both of them. . .and Thank You, Thank You for these sweet memories!

  • Andy did not commit suicide he died of a heart attack

  • Andy Did not commit suicide. He had a heart ailment. Myocarditis Please get your facts straight. He would not have left all of who love him on purpose.

  • Well, in my defense, I was 13 when Andy Gibb died, and I only remember the news headlines mentioning his suicide. I see that that's not exactly correct, but I also remember the part about drugs contributing to his death. May he rest in peace. I know how much he was idolized and his music enjoyed. I'm African American and I remember my sisters, for the longest, used to keep a poster of Andy on their bedroom wall. . .next to one of John Travolta from "Welcome Back Kotter". . .hehehehehehe

  • i had no idea nell left us in 2003 i always enjoyed her entertainment thanks nell r.i.p. to the both of you

  • yes it was from gimme a break. they both had great voices. Andy and Barry sound so much alike.

  • Was this scene from Gimme a Break! or another programme?

  • yes it was from gimme a break

  • IM mesmerize!! great voices!!

  • both voices are in heaven singing with the angels thank you for the music on earth you are missed by many.

  • WOW!!! What memories!!! Miss them both so much.......Nell you are so love and we mis that voice.....................God is so blessed. he gets to hear it live every day.

  • Wow this is so great they both were so talented & this song made me cry.

  • Brilliant!

  • Open your hearts and ears....let the music flow into your soul.

Thank you Nell and Andy for sharing your talents with us. RIP and even after this long your prue voices bring tears to my eyes.

  • FANTASTIC!

  • rip nell and andy.

  • I second, third, fourth, and et cetera that.

  • i like when Nell gives him the "church encouragement" when she tells andy to "sing" at 1:06.

  • Possibly 1 of the greatest shows of the 1980s,the musical numbers were always to far and Inbtween!!!!!

  • favourite part: (aside from the whole thing)

Andy's giddy reaction to Nell's voice at 3:32

ahhh andy, why'd you go and do it

  • This is wonderful! This is as good as the original and even better in ways. Doesn't matter how they died. They both made beautiful music that is a joy to listen to. That music is their legacy.

  • every time nell carter sings, i am reduced to tears. Rest in peace sweet angel.

  • In response to a some of the comments, yes, Andy did emulate his brother Barry. He was actually quite obsessed about it, often complaining that they wouldn't treat his brother Barry the way he was being treated.

He did abuse cocaine. His death was not from cocaine directly but rather the damage its use caused to his heart.

I know all this first-hand because I was his pianist/conductor during that period. That's me in the opening shot in the gray outfit near the keyboard.

    Yes, RIP, Andy.

  • I just want to say thanks Andy has always been in my heart and always will i never had the chance to see him live but would have loved too he gave so much of himself to so many people and got so little of it in return i am glad that people like you let us know the true Andy and thanks Lov and Hugs Heather

  • yes Andy has Barry style and even they look alike but Andy has his own voice and certain emotion that trascends into his songs ,a real artist that gives own life to his work. How can i mend a broken heart? in Andy's voice is a piece of art.

  • @eidco Hi John! Thanks for sharing with us your first-hand knowledge. It means a great deal to me, as I am sure it does to many many others! It was great to see a good shot of you in the opening scene! You were and will alwys be a very special part of Andy's treasured legacy! We all are blessed to know you.

  • @eidco then you might know, was this a live vocal? i always remembered this from when it was on t.v. you couldn't swing a dead cat without hearing the original for it seemed like years. when these two did it was the first time it registered in my young brain that songs can belong to anyone...

  • @Putaspellonyou The band did a pre-record of the song and then synced the performance on the air. The Andy and Nell sang live to the track. It's hard to believe this was 26 years ago!

  • @eidco thought so, it appeared to impromptu to be an overdub. do you recall how many times they rehearsed it?

  • @Putaspellonyou Let's see, do I remember specifics about one rehearsal 26 years ago? lol Not exactly, but I'm pretty sure it was recorded in either one or two takes. They were both real pros.

  • @eidco Wow, it must have been awesome to work with Andy I wish so much that I could have met him and seen him in concert. It is so sad that he had the cocaine addiction but he truly gave us good memories and songs and for that I am truly grateful. You all did a great job on this show!

  • That might have been the best duet for that song I ever heard wow..

  • They both had such strong and amazing voices. I forgot how great they sounded on this song! Thanks for the post.

  • wow! incredible! shed a bit of a tear listening to this!

  • They were both coke heads, but god bless them, they were talented and this was a beautiful performance. RIP Miss Carter and Andy. I look forward to hearing you sing in heaven.

  • During that time in history, people were under the assumption that cocaine was not really a "drug" and that it was a safer alternative to hard and harmful drugs.

  • The only known black lesbian Republican...

  • fantastic beautiful wonderful.....nothing no cruel words can affect our love for andy!!!! love you andy soooo much xxbabsie

  • that give me goosebumps. wow!

  • It saddens me to watch this video because both of them are deceased. They are truly flying up where they belong. May they both rest in peace.

  • @wheninrome345 Rest in Joy

  • OMFG

  • omg, i remember watching this episode as a child... surreal

  • thats just so sick of you....this is aplace for love.....for andy so just keep ur views to yourself ....andy and nell rest inpeace we all love love love you xxxxxxxx

  • I agree with blondiebabs... perhaps it would be best if you kept your hate-filled comments to yourself... let Andy be at peace.

  • Well you seem to delight in getting other people upset - Take the time to read the rest of the comments and you will find them positive - except for you - Why are you watching Andy Gibb in the first place??. Youtube has your I.P. address on file & therefore your home address - so now I'm signing out and I leave you to them - Just leave the Andy Gibb supporters alone .....please....

  • LOL thanks for the laughs...just when you think where is a retarted assclown when you need one to provide some laughs here you are !!

    thanks again LOL

  • So Beautiful. They are loved and deeply missed. May Andy and Nell both Rest in Peace.

  • It's from a t.v. show in the 80's called Give Me A Break.

  • what show is this?

  • i remember this episode. I love Gimme a Break! television was so different then. this is an awesome, classic moment, both full singers full of talent and emotion. They both left us too soon

  • i love Andy Gibb oh soooo much...

  • Thanks so much for that. Love them both and miss them. I've been looking for a copy of that episode for a while and at least I got a taste from this.

  • Just awesome, a great performance especially for a sitcom.

  • Wicked, Wicked, Wicked.

  • trirail...

YOU ARE PATHETIC!!!!!!! Nell and Andy were extremely talented!!!!!!!!! How dare you even be here if you didn't like them...UGH

  • Thanks for putting this up....This was one of my favorite episodes. I loved Gimme A Break...I loved Nell!!!!! Her voice was so beautiful and then when Andy was on the show...OMG, words can not express how much I loved this episode.....Andy was my favorite out of the brothers...What a talented family with such a tragedy when we lost Andy so young. RIP Andy and Nell.....You will always be loved and missed!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Beautiful music... We love you Andy and we treasure your music in our hearts. How I wish I was born yesterday that you're still alive and singing... I cry when I watch your music videos, you touched my life... RIP

  • I was so "in love" with Andy Gibb growing up! When he died I cried! I couldnt have been much more than 10 yrs old! I love Nell too! I was hurt when she passed too!

  • I remember when he guest starred on Gimme A Break w/her. I was so excited for this episode when I found out he was going to be on it. Ahhh, memories. Ahh, Andy. Now he is up where he belongs, even if he is truly missed for all he was(& could have become)

  • remember the days when people sang live on tv shows? pure 80's bliss. Thank You!

  • I miss them both. I miss their amazing voices, both...RIP Andy Gibb & Nell Carter...We love you...

  • demillis What Rude Comment Your Awful go jump in the Lake!

  • AMAZING!

  • She was the greatest, RIP Nell and Andy

  • Two great talents. Andy Gibb and Neil Carter make a great song. They will sadly missed.

    RIP

    Andy Gibb

    Neil Carter.

  • god i still miss nell carter she was one of my favorite actress/singer and she is will never be forgotten ever...RIP Nell Carter

  • During the last part of her life, Nell had been living with a life Partner...some Jewish woman. She missed out on perhaps getting married in California...same sex marriage arrangement. Also, Nell had a prickly, disagreeable working relationship with Rosie O'Donnell. I guess Nell was a "closet gay" and Rosie encouraged her to come "out."

  • Great comment! Have a great day.

  • Beautiful!!

Two wonderful talents taken WAYYYYY too soon.

    RIP Andy and Nell!!

  • @LAHot1 Yes...indeed. It's also sad to believe that fellow singer/actor Telma Hopkins who was Nell's best friend Addy in the show is the lone surviving adult cast member of Gimme A Break.

    -R78

  • Beautiful. May they rest in peace.

  • Two people greatly missed. The pair of them had so much talent, loved and remembered always!

  • i love it!! and i love both of them!!

    r.i.p. <3

  • how kiled him

  • I´ve never seen Andy SO SIMILATE to his brother Barry as he is here , in this video. The way to sing, the way to stay on stage, the same way to use the arms, the hands.....is a Barry´s twin .

  • For the record, Barry does not have a twin. Robin and the late Maurice were twins. Andy was their younger brother.

  • I have this on audio cassette from my old TV. Thank you so much for posting.

  • this is amazing, i love nell carter and andy gibb may they both rest in peace

  • Two beautiful ppl taken too soon! You are missed and thanks for your gift of song you left for all of us to enjoy!

  • I loved Nell Carter so much and her voice. It is just so hard to believe she is gone. I felt that if i ever met her i would have loved her even more. Rest in Peace Ms Carter.

  • I have every ep of this show just love Nell's voice

  • nell is in heaven im sure of it!! not sure about andy but im sure he is too i do know nell is singing with the angels in heaven and laughing with the chief that played on gimme a break in the 80's

  • excellent cooment!!!!as a fanatic of nell carter its nice to read the good ones.TY

  • u r very welcome, i was a kid in the 80s and i always some reason looked up to nell carter she was someone i wanted to meet one day! but im sure i will on the other side in heaven..

  • I ts great to see that I'm not the only person that feels that way!!!my reason for being such a fan is of course a very personal reason and because of her I got through some extremly sad and hard times in my life.

  • you're not the only one, i truly loved her too. i remember watching it on thurs before hill st. blues, then on saturdays and any other nights they moved it to. i truly became aware of her immense talent watching the reruns. and i got to attend the end portion of her funeral. i always wanted to meet and work with her.

  • Was this song sung on "Gimme a Break" more than once? I seriously remember Nell singing it with Joe Cocker. ????? :(

  • Jennifer Warnes sang it with Joe Cocker, not Nell. It was a number one hit at the time for the two of them.

    God Bless

    Pam

  • Esta cancion es preciosa, pero cantada por Andy todavia lo es mas, que tristeza que nos dejaras tan pronto, no pudimos disfrutar de ti y de tu voz por mas años pero te llevamos siempre en nuestro corazon.

  • Beautiful really beautiful two voices that they delight!!!!!

  • Nell can sing.

  • I love nells voice, why not powerful very pretty!Go head nell!

  • this is great thanks, they do a very nice job.

  • No other african american could have done this! YEAH i went there, she would be proud. Nell is looking down and smiling oops i mean laughing

  • I loved "Gimme a Break". So sad to think that both Nell Carter and Andy Gibb are gone. May they both rest in peace.

  • yea i liked watching gimme a break when i could.. we had to have a antenna on top of a mountain to just get a few channels..when i got 14 my mom and dad divorced and we moved to a place that had cable and i thought i was in heaven haha! nell is sure a talented woman and i hate she died so young..:-(

  • I remember this episode.
