Th"FairTax aka NASTI is regressive by the usual definition. Here is the quote from one of the Beacon Hill treatises on the AFT site:
"The key result of the foregoing discussion is that it matters fundamentally how one frames the discussion of the distributional effects of the FairTax.When people are sorted by expenditure per capita, the FairTax is progressive; when they are sorted by income per capita, it is regressive."
Those who undertand what this means now understand what a bad idea it is.

Everyone, please look at the "Fair Tax Open Letter" by 80 Economic Professors including a Nobel Peace Prize Winner in Economics who praise the FairTax to the President, Congress, and the American People. Learn the truth, not what this guy is shoveling. Read the FairTax Books by Congressman Linder. FairTax. True Tax Reform that will SAVE America !!!
Beware of these names. They're all the same person, a FairTax spammer who doesn't work. Compare vocabulary and style. It is always interesting to see those who staunchly defend the status quo in terms of our tax system and attack the FairTax and its advocates. One thing that is always missing is any mention of the adverse economic trends that the current system exacerbates and any more effective way to address them than the FairTax.
Their approach seems to be: Let's ignore this problem and hope that it goes away. How well did that approach work with the tech stock and housing bubbles?
Fairtax is goofy on so many levels. This "10th Amendment" is no exception
People in smart states won't tax cancer victims 100,000 on their chemo and surgery. Got that? Why would you force cancer patients in Iowa to pay the worlds highest sales tax -- and on chemo and surgery?
Here is a clue - you wont tax anyone anywhere. Your FT is full of hot hair, it's pure BS. It's own leaders know it's pure BS.
Lets see - adding a 30% sales tax makes everything go DOWN in price? Nice magic!!! Never in history of earth has a sales tax made prices DROP. But now you are add the worlds HIGHEST sales tax - which will be much higher than 30%--- and you say prices will DROP?
No - and you won't pass this bill. Your own leaders know it's goofy. They have hidden from hearings under oath for 13 years.
creating an exemption is way more difficult when the tax is transparent. When taxes rise or fall everyone will see it and want to know why. Oh wait this is one of Mark's accounts again. so you knew this. Never mind.
Linder is getting out --- gee I wonder if he finally figured out FT was insane nonsense and didn't dare to stick around to be exposed?
King is defending lobbyist -- saying someone has to speak up for them. Remember the bad old lobbyist FT has said can NEVER get ONE exemptoin of any kind to Fairtax?
Fairtax would have thousands of exemptions -- which is why it will never pass. By the time GOP lobbyist get their exemptions, there wont be a FT
Besides the huge taxes on people --that will never happen -- Fairtax has another absurdity. A huge tax on GOVERNMENT. They actually pretend to tax the government and create income this way - see page 148 of Fairtax book.
It's insane of course, and of course they can't collect this tax. And of course they know it.
But they pretend to be able to create income to the government by this insane tax.
The problem with Fairtax isn't the Constitution -- it's the voters.
If you think any Congressman is going to pass a 30% sales tax on rent AND cancer treatment AND gasoline AND utilities AND food AND car insurance AND everything else - you are mental.
Fairtax sounds great -- unless you realize what it really is. Fairtax leaders are not serious - they would not dare try to pass it.

How much corporate income, capital gains, employer paid payroll taxes are embedded in the cost of chemo therapy and surgery.

Fairtax is a fairy tale. It's a hoax, a farce, and no one is really trying to pass it.
There is not a single part of FT that is honest or sane. Its a hoax

Only to you Mark. Sometimes the lone voice of reason really is. the other 99.9% of the time it's just some guy off his meds.
Ch 10 question 6 FairTax: the truth explains the government paying self argument.
Medical costs drop about 5%, even after the FT. so there goes your cancer victim card.
The prebate covers rent, gas, and utilities taxes with a bunch to spare.
Me and all the other FT leaders (You can't seem to name) are pushing for hearings.
Now start cursing some more. It helps
