  • In real life women generally like a man because of what he possesses weather that may be money or power. In the Superman films, Lois likes Superman because of his abilities primarily. If Clark had dated more women growing up like most guys do in real life, then he would have seen right thru Lois. Oh well. At least he did get his powers back later on. Despite being Superman, Clark is still a man nonetheless. And we all know how badly pussy can fuck with a man's head.

  • This decision still seems incredibly rash. I would have expected Lois to shout out before the depowering and for Superman to have at least some doubts about whether Lois would really love a human Clark. I suppose it's all part of his learning curve. But did Lois ever show anything but affectionate friendship for Clark. There was never any reason for him to believe that Lois wasn't in love with only Superman. Just a weakness in an otherwise excellent film.

  • I'm glad Clark in the comics didn't have to make a choice, he got to have his cake and eat it too. At least until they did this "New 52" nonsense...

  • (Cont)Because it was important to evoke all the feelings involved.

I truly like (and was amazed) how you combined the dialogue between Clark and Jor-el and Clark and Lois giving complete character exposition of all of them and the full picture of the emotional conflict that Superman faced. And made it transition smoothly better than Thau did!

And of course great job reiterating that there was no necessity in showing a storyline that would transition to Singer's Superman Returns! :)

  • Absolutely brilliant job! This was the cut that I (and proably many other fans) had in mind for this scene after seeing the RD one. It worked for so many reasons. But one important one was simply the fact that close up face shots of Lois were not even available in the RD cut. Had it not been for RD and Thau's attitude towards the Lester footage, it was only logical to show Lois' response to the situation between Clark and Jor-El.

  • Lois is selfish. If she REALLY loved Kal-El, she'd have stopped him from doing such a thing-Supermans a gift to the world really...I somehow doubt she'd have stuck around had he remained human....its Superman she 'loved'....cow.

  • Why didn't you add the scene where Kent fades in and Superman fades out whilst slumping over slowly, dying?

  • @stargroove4 Because in this edit, there is NO Superman. Just Kal-El in the white shirt. It wouldn't make sense, except symbolically, but visually, it wouldn't play. Make sense?

  • @onekingprods I understand, thanks.

  • I LOVE HOW JOR-EL LOOKS AT HER LIKE " ASS HOLE HUMAN"...

  • Thank you. We don't need any of that acid tripping freaky assed cartoony skeletonizing bullshit. Whoever came up with that needs help.

  • I guess the TV show exuses still having powers and he's still able to have sex with a human without hurting her, being that Clark explained that Jor-El trained him how to control his superstregnth. Otherwise These scenes wouldn't make as much sense.

  • You did an excellent job with this edit...much better than many of the other attempts I have seen. I just wish that Michael Thau was as good an editor as you are, and maybe we'd have a better presentation of the Donner Cut...one free of so many bad decisions.

  • @dfjanus Hey, thanks for the nice comments, regarding this clip. I tried so hard to make SII look and feel as much like STM, as possible, and not feel like a "fan cut," but something you would've seen in theatres, and accepted as a worthy followup to STM. The new anamorphic 5.1 version of my edit is in progress. Be sure to let me know if you would like me to add your name to the list of folks who'll be receiving the finished dvd.

  • @onekingprods I would join that dvd list, but HOW? Mail me!

  • @peacepipe4 Hey my friend. I've added you to the list of folks that I will be contacting when the cut is complete. My resources are limited, so it will be done in 720p and dvd format. I don't have the resources for 1080, unfortunately. I will let you know when it's done. God bless.

  • @onekingprods That's great! I've got an older TV anyway, but big, so I'm sure it will work fine. If you have any leftover space on the DVD try and squeeze in The Ten Commandments of 1956 with Heston. WE WILL LEAVE NO EMPTY SPACES BEHIND!

  • @dfjanus

Bad decisions? In Michael Thau's cut? Like what?

  • It is really creepy when Jor-el looks at Lois at the end. For a dead guy that hologram seems so real, like it is the ghost of him.

  • @bjoh249

I always felt it was selfish of Clark / Kal - El to give up his Kryptonian abilities & powers just because w / he had them, he couldn't properly make love to Lois without killing her. & in the meantime, the world is going to hell because of Zod & Co.

He was sent to Earth to be a hero / leader, after all.

  • I feel so bad for Superman... He should have the right to fall in love and have kids.. I think that the Kryptonions are more Primitive then we are... I would think that Jor El would want his son to be happy,,, FUCK the rsks to Lois, HE loves her and he should have that right to be with her... NO MATTER WHAT... Thoughts anyone....

  • @williamkatt81

if you think THIS Jor-El is bad, you never saw Jor-El from Smallville. He threatened Jonathan and Martha, branded Clark's chest with a Kryptonian symbol, sent fake Kryptonian girl to turn Clark against humans, brainwashed him, turning Clark into emotionless Kal-El, depowered Clark for desobeying orders, freezed Clark in the block of ice (and only freed him because Bizarro was at large). He is just as bad as a parent to Clark as Lionel Luthor to Lex.

  • @KyodaiKen1979 I believe anything you tell me Krytptonions suck.... The only human one to come off that planet was kal El...

  • You're WRONG, Warlock. Being able to save lives -- to save whole worlds -- is FAR more important than getting laid or walking in the park holding hands and pointing out butterflies.

  • Jor-El seems like like a dick in this. And Superman seems like a little kid, being bossed about by his daddy.

  • yes there are many differences between the Richard Donner Cut and Superman II....but good job on this!

  • i want this on dvd how do i get it

  • it is available on DVD. it's titled " Superman II The Richard Donner Cut ". better yet buy the 14 disc ultimate edition box set.****enjoy.

  • Is avaliable on Ebay. Superman II the Donner cut.

  • I also liked that they slept together before he Depowered, the Lester way makes him seem too desperate. I mean they did "it" right after the "draining" process.

  • I agree, It flows very well. But I really liked Lois in the Super-shirt, too bad there wasn't any closer shots. I also think that Clark looks a lot like Tom Welling in this scene.

  • this is incredible - have you done a finished edit on Superman 2? There's an incredible cut by adigitalman on fanedits org - but i love the way you combined the donner and lester footage mantaining the heart of Donner's cut but adding in the lester continuity to make a more completed scene. I'd love to have a copy of your edit - perhaps you can use a site like fanedits to let fans see you take???

  • Ive had a look at this site, but how do you get these edits? can they be downloaded on bit torrents?

  • Yeah, watching it again, the Lois reaction shots do work remarkably well. Any person who hasn't seen this before wouldn't even suspect they were from two completely different versions of the movie.

  • That's what I was hoping to hear about this scene. Thanks a bunch.

  • Re: "Any person who hasn't seen this before wouldn't even suspect they were from two completely different versions of the movie."

Firstly, to onekingprods. Excellent editing! First time I've seen this scene actually. Both Marlon Brando and Christopher Reeve deliver a powerful performance here.

And I do agree with Hollywoodsteve, though I did actually catch on to which scenes were added.

Yeah, I have yet to see Lois in the S shirt.

  • I've been following this whole Superman 2 fan-cut movement since Donner Cut was released, and I've seen a lot of different cuts for Supes' de-powering/re-powering. This (or one very, very similar to it) was one of the first fan edits I saw and it's still in my opinion one of the best. GREAT JOB of getting Lois' reaction shots from the Lester cut incorporated into the Donner cut.

  • Why his mother looked older as a hologran, for Lesther cut, if she died young?

  • this sis so cool! i wish i could incorporate i into my fan cut of SII.

  • As do I, and most folks, as well.

  • I agree about "Donner Lois". But whatever way the two versions can be cut together to make the best movie I am all in favor of. I also strongly prefer the amnesia kiss over reversing time.

  • She wouldn't be wearing the S shirt in a version where she hasn't slept with him yet.

  • Exactly, Hollywood. That's where the inconsistency would lie. Though I prefer the looks of "Donner Lois", this was the very best choice, IMO. But thanks for taking a moment to give your thoughts, Prodrive!

  • Jeez, that white thing that Lois is wearing in the Donner version is so horrid.

For that reason alone, is there no way to matte her face (for the reaction shots) onto someone wearing the "S" outfit of supes?

  • Excellent job! Too bad the Reeve double doesn't look much like him but other than that, bravo!

  • Much obliged, my friend. I tried blurring the Reeve double, but it only served to be too much of a distraction. I'm afraid this is the best that a guy like me can do, but like you, I'm extremely pleased with the result. The matting out of Donner Lois was a pain to figure out, but WELL worth it.
