Wooow johny you are great! :D You know Im a composer and I would LOVE it if you cheked out my chanel and take a look at my songs. Ill eventually post songs Ive learned thanks to you! GREAT JOB!
@retardtothethirdprod I heard your stuff, very nice! I especially liked your version of "Your Song," one of my favorite Elton John pieces. Let me konw when you post some songs from my tutorials, I'd love to hear those as well.
@instantpubes808 There really isn't an intro on this song, it's got a cold opening (other than the single note before the lyric). I have the notes to the French Horn solo, though, on a separate video.
Great tutorial, beautiful piano song by McCartney. I love also Golden Slumbers and You never give me your money. ( Actually all Beatles music ). Thanks a lot pianojohn113.
Im a big fan of the Beatles, and your just amazing!! just wondering but would you be able to play "jealous guy" by john lennon, its just an amazing song
hola! hey, could you do a cover of "oh my love" by john lennon? is a very beautiful song. every time I listen to john surprise me as your covers. good luck
@pianojohn: I'm still somewhat new to piano. I'm learning this song pretty easily, can you recommend an order of beatles songs i should learn? A list in order of songs difficulty so I can learn one after another, using your videos. Some of my favorites are Martha my dear, maybe I'm amazed, golden slumbers and others. I'm hoping you can write a list of songs that would help students like me progressively improve. You're my new piano teacher! Thank you!!!!
@Beatb0xsupremeo I think "Hey Jude" and "Imagine" might be the two easiest songs to learn, and perhaps "Let It Be" as well. "Martha My Dear" can be a little tricky in parts, but certainly doable. "Golden Slumbers" is also not too difficult, and you might also try "Something."
I like this. The chorus seems a bit off and some of the notes are not correctly named Gb instead of F# but once I wrote it out myself the way you explained it, it's working out pretty well. I think by the end of the night I should have it down.
Your tutorial looks very good, I'm looking for one so my son can learn this, but from what I've found on YouTube, Paul performs this in B, C, & one performance in Bb. Would you create a lesson where this is played in C? This is the key in which I play it on guitar and I'm teaching my son on guitar, but hope he'll learn it on piano so we can put together a duet.(he's a much better piano player than he is a guitar player).
@pianojohn113 hahaha no its just that i read a comment about " a day in the life" and the next line in the song was "made my way downstairs and had a smoke" so i thought i shud intrude :D
Thank you soo much I have always loved this song and now I can play it! haha I practiced like all day I felt like my little finger was going to fall off haha! It sounds great looking forward to being able to play loads of their songs :D thank you!!
B, Bb/B, Ab/B, Gb/B, E, A, B that's how Paul played it in the record. Right hand plays 3/4 B 3 times. After that E, A and back to B. Good job anyway! There's nothing wrong you're showing us. Just saying that this is the actual way he played it.
I'll have to disagree here.. The bass lines descend along with the rest of the chords.. Bb/B and Gb/B would be especially awkward in this song. It stays on the basic major/minor chord progressions throughout.

Great tutorial, but try to be musically correct, the key of B doesn't have flats, so when you spell out the cords, dont use them! (ie for the A chord you spelt it A Dd E, which is INCORRECT! its A C# E, even though they are the same notes, they are enharmonics!) but your videos are great for helping out people who dont understand music theory!
I know, as I've said to many people, by habit I sometimes default to singular note names when I'm speaking. I notated them the same way on-screen so as to avoid confusion for those who may not know C# and Db are the same note.
It's a spoken error, one that I don't always catch on the videos. Once it's recorded, though, I just leave it as is. See my comments below to user pauljonesesquire for more on that.
Another great song to learn John thanks.... My theory aint to great & I never understood why a c# becomes a Db? (never mind)... alot of controversy around this one... For instance if the Beatles had done it in C major the tape would have to be slowed not sped up to make it B which wouldnt sound right ... hmmm??? whatever.... youre the best man keep it up.
To figure out whether to call it a C# or Db, you would normally check what key the song is in. If it's in, say, A major, you'd say C-sharp. If it's in E-flat major, you'd say D-flat.. technically.
I default too often to my nomal labels of the black keys: D-flat, E-flat, F-sharp, A-flat, and B-flat. The worst thing is when they call a B natural a C-flat, or a C-natural a B-sharp.. Aggh!
Just wanted to inform you that the right hand rhythm part you're playing over the first couple of lines "Your day breaks, your mind aches" is slightly wrong, As a reference just type "For No One - The Beatles - Backing Track" into youtube search and listen to the difference.
Hi, your videos are great, i've learnt so many from your tutorials and i didn't even play piano before!...Could you perhaps do one for Oh! Darling...thanks......
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Before I saw your 'tutorial' I thought I knew how to play this song; but now I'm just so totally......... CONFUSED!!! You play the song in a key that makes it 10 times as hard for a beginner to learn; each phrase is out of time or in some 'alternative' style to the previous one; you deluge the learner with irrelevant information, but make no attempt to show either the internal structure of the chords or their significance as a linear progression within the song.
If this song is too difficult for you to play, I would suggest you try one that's closer to your skill level. There are plenty of "Easy Piano" books for beginners out there, and many of them will even transpose the songs to a more "basic" key, like C.
You play piano really well, and I really appreciate you putting these tutorials up, but you shouldn't be calling all those flats in the key of B, it's confusing.
This guy is a good teacher but this song was a bit difficult for him because of the key it was played in (which I think is the wrong key for the song btw, but interesting version)
I love how your arrangements are identical to the actual piano in these songs. I could'nt thank you enough John. I use your beatle tutorials frequently and you are an excellent teacher. Someone should be paying you for this amazing deed.
I appreciate you. I wish I could see your fingers better rather than listening to the spelling bee thing. I'm more my ear and eye guy than a numbers technical guy. But thanks! I play it in C without any black keys in my by ear version, it's pretty easy.
I just learned the beginning and stab c7 chord from Vienna thanks to you. You really are a superb teacher , thanks very much , and this video is awesome :)
retraction. after further investigation, it is in b. although mcartney wrote it on guitar in the key of c. purhaps it was recorded in c, then modulated up half a step.they have done that on numerous songs.
It would be easier in C, your right.. I don't like the key of B, actually. They may have recorded it in C, but the final product (slowed down, maybe?) wound up in B.
Great tutorial. There are two people on YouTube who are doing a fantastic service for all of us who want to learn how to play these songs on piano, and you are one of them. You make learning how to play easy and enjoyable. Thank you, John!
Thanks, I know him, but I think many of his vids are incomplete, with the rest of each video available on his website and subject to a membership fee.
I have one request, John, before you start charging exorbitant fees :-) Though your camera is being repaired, I remember that you have Here, There and Everywhere done. Could you post this one, please? BTW, in an interview on the VH1 channel, Paul said HTE is his No.1 favorite Beatles composition, with Maybe I'm Amazed topping the solo list
Hi John, though it IS worth, please do not charge. It would again be out of reach for those who do not have a credit-card..... As nearly everything on the web.
i dont like shawn cheek. he rips you off by showing you the part 1 and then saying you have to pay 30 bucks to get the rest of the parts on his website. ripoff!!! plus johns lessons are musch better anyway!!!
An A7 can work there, it doesn't sound bad.. I do think A7 to B is a little awkward, though, and Paul wrote it as an A (which I prefer), but certainly A7 can be used.
Eureka! I'm a beginner, but when learning Sexy Sadie I think that by chance I've found the beginning of Fool on the Hill, which someone suggested here. B, D, F sharp, A in the right hand and D octave in the left hand, alternating - sounds really nice
Yes, that's exactly what you would do. It can be one of two ways: the one you mentioned (essentially a Bm7 right hand with D octave in the left), or A-B-D-F# in the right hand, D octave bass (in other words, A below instead of above). It's technically a D6 chord, which of course is one inversion away from a Bm7. Nice catch, though, good job!
Thanks very much for confirming the chord! Unfortunately, this was only a coincidence, but I'm sure that after mastering more of your tutorials, there will be more such coincidences. BTW, I dare hope that FotH is on your list :)
John, Thank you so much for doing what you do and keeping it free. I can honestly say that I'm becoming a better piano player thanks to you. Learning these songs are teaching me things I can use in other songs and helping me write better.
awesome..i have one suggestion/request: could you play the song at the beginning of the tutorial so that we know what its supposed to sound like before you start teaching?..either way i love all of your tutorials..thanks!
John you are so FAB! Can you show us how to play Lennon's "Imagine"? I know there are a couple on youtube, but I like your teaching method better. You show the bass on the left hand, and melody on the right hand, plus the notes, much clearer. Much appreciated! - Nadja Dee
Thanks Nadja! Glad it was helpful. I haven't done Imagine yet because there seemed to be so many videos on YouTube for that song. But maybe I'll do one now, so stay tuned!
you're right John, there are many tutorials of imagine. It would be more interesting songs like the fool on the hill, martha my dear, monkberry moon delight, cry baby cry etc.
This was another example of the Beatles song that actually was recorded in one key and then slowed down on record. This was actually recorded in the key of C and then the chords really become very easy to play. If you look at the DVD of McCartney's concert he plays this song and you get a real clear view of him playing it in the key of C and how easy the chords are. But a superb job John, really appreciate it
The key of B Major has five sharps in the key signature. All those times you referred to the notes as 'Gb' it would been more appropiate to say 'F#'. Not being picky, just saying.
Yes, you are correct, and I do that all the time. In my own mind, I always label the black notes first as Db, Eb, F#, Ab, and Bb.. I have a hard time remembering to say "A-sharp" when I need to. I do it correctly when writing, but when speaking (as on the video) my old habits come back to the surface. This old dog is set in his ways, I guess!

ok all these comments seem out of order to me. yes i screwed my comment up. wow i wish we could all jam together somehow.
sky2lion 3 years ago
retraction. after further investigation, it is in b. although mcartney wrote it on guitar in the key of c. purhaps it was recorded in c, then modulated up half a step.they have done that on numerous songs.
sky2lion 3 years ago
I'm sorry. I'm so sorry. so... sorry. b is down from c. I'm glad your investigation skills are so thorough.
delliejonut 3 years ago
ouch, oh the pain. guess i need investigate which way is up and which is down. i get those 2 mixed up all the time. thanx jellie.

Whoops, just saw this comment after I responded to the one above!!
pianojohn113 3 years ago
i believe the beatles did it in c. wouldn't it be easier in c on the piano? just a suggestion. don't mind me i'm only a guitar player.
sky2lion 3 years ago
It would be easier in C, your right.. I don't like the key of B, actually. They may have recorded it in C, but the final product (slowed down, maybe?) wound up in B.

Great tutorial. There are two people on YouTube who are doing a fantastic service for all of us who want to learn how to play these songs on piano, and you are one of them. You make learning how to play easy and enjoyable. Thank you, John!
electron115 4 years ago
Hi, electron115, please who's the second teacher equally great as John? Thanks
namedontmatter 4 years ago
Shawn Cheek. You can find him on YouTube as shawncheekeasy.
electron115 4 years ago
Thanks, I know him, but I think many of his vids are incomplete, with the rest of each video available on his website and subject to a membership fee.
namedontmatter 4 years ago
I've seen a few of his videos, I didn't know he charged a fee.. Interesting.
pianojohn113 4 years ago
I have one request, John, before you start charging exorbitant fees :-) Though your camera is being repaired, I remember that you have Here, There and Everywhere done. Could you post this one, please? BTW, in an interview on the VH1 channel, Paul said HTE is his No.1 favorite Beatles composition, with Maybe I'm Amazed topping the solo list
namedontmatter 4 years ago
That one's done and posted, finally!
pianojohn113 4 years ago
Fantastic! God bless you.
namedontmatter 4 years ago
Hi John, though it IS worth, please do not charge. It would again be out of reach for those who do not have a credit-card..... As nearly everything on the web.
cath901 4 years ago
i dont like shawn cheek. he rips you off by showing you the part 1 and then saying you have to pay 30 bucks to get the rest of the parts on his website. ripoff!!! plus johns lessons are musch better anyway!!!

thanks for this... have you thought about adding Jealous Guy by John Lennon? that would really be great! thanks
edkaram02 4 years ago
Yes, lots of requests for that one.. I have it on the list, and hope to get to it soon.
pianojohn113 4 years ago
Your voice actually sounds a lot like Paul's!
mcates101 4 years ago
Thanks very much! Maybe Paul on a bad day, I don't know..! lol :-)
pianojohn113 4 years ago
In my humble opinion the A has to be A7
paeper 4 years ago
An A7 can work there, it doesn't sound bad.. I do think A7 to B is a little awkward, though, and Paul wrote it as an A (which I prefer), but certainly A7 can be used.
pianojohn113 4 years ago
John, we are missing your presence; hope that all is well ... looking forward to hearing from you soon ... .

All is well, just busy with travel.. But I've got new videos done and should have them up here in the next couple of days.
pianojohn113 4 years ago
Eureka! I'm a beginner, but when learning Sexy Sadie I think that by chance I've found the beginning of Fool on the Hill, which someone suggested here. B, D, F sharp, A in the right hand and D octave in the left hand, alternating - sounds really nice
namedontmatter 4 years ago
Yes, that's exactly what you would do. It can be one of two ways: the one you mentioned (essentially a Bm7 right hand with D octave in the left), or A-B-D-F# in the right hand, D octave bass (in other words, A below instead of above). It's technically a D6 chord, which of course is one inversion away from a Bm7. Nice catch, though, good job!
pianojohn113 4 years ago
Thanks very much for confirming the chord! Unfortunately, this was only a coincidence, but I'm sure that after mastering more of your tutorials, there will be more such coincidences. BTW, I dare hope that FotH is on your list :)
namedontmatter 4 years ago
Yep, it's on there.. moving up slowly, so I might get to it in the next session or two.
pianojohn113 4 years ago
John, Thank you so much for doing what you do and keeping it free. I can honestly say that I'm becoming a better piano player thanks to you. Learning these songs are teaching me things I can use in other songs and helping me write better.
You're the best!
CappCreations 4 years ago 2
That's great, Capp, I'm really glad they've helped. Music is a gift that should be enjoyed and shared by all. Thanks for the comment!
pianojohn113 4 years ago
awesome..i have one suggestion/request: could you play the song at the beginning of the tutorial so that we know what its supposed to sound like before you start teaching?..either way i love all of your tutorials..thanks!
PureShootingPete88 4 years ago
Yes, in fact I meant to do that here but I forgot.. It's a good suggestion and I'll keep that in mind for the future.
pianojohn113 4 years ago
John you are so FAB! Can you show us how to play Lennon's "Imagine"? I know there are a couple on youtube, but I like your teaching method better. You show the bass on the left hand, and melody on the right hand, plus the notes, much clearer. Much appreciated! - Nadja Dee
nadjadee 4 years ago
Thanks Nadja! Glad it was helpful. I haven't done Imagine yet because there seemed to be so many videos on YouTube for that song. But maybe I'll do one now, so stay tuned!
pianojohn113 4 years ago
you're right John, there are many tutorials of imagine. It would be more interesting songs like the fool on the hill, martha my dear, monkberry moon delight, cry baby cry etc.
THANX A LOT FOR THIS ONE!
rockologo 4 years ago
Ooh, I second Martha My Dear. And thanks, John. You're the best.
whiteycorngood 4 years ago
No problem.. looks like I'd better move "Martha" up on the list!
pianojohn113 4 years ago
Glad to do it!
Most of those songs are coming up, so stay tuned.
pianojohn113 4 years ago
Great Job once again PianoJohn.
But a superb job John, really appreciate it
westfield90 4 years ago
Wow, I didn't know they did that on this song. Makes sense, though. The key of C is much less awkward than B.
Thanks for the comments, I'm glad you enjoyed it!
pianojohn113 4 years ago
The key of B Major has five sharps in the key signature. All those times you referred to the notes as 'Gb' it would been more appropiate to say 'F#'. Not being picky, just saying.
segould 4 years ago
Yes, you are correct, and I do that all the time. In my own mind, I always label the black notes first as Db, Eb, F#, Ab, and Bb.. I have a hard time remembering to say "A-sharp" when I need to. I do it correctly when writing, but when speaking (as on the video) my old habits come back to the surface. This old dog is set in his ways, I guess!

More Beatles, Yeah,yeah,yeah. Thanks John!!!!
