Sure looks good on a computer simulation, but in real life this wouldent work.
You cant unload and load a ship at the same time as shown on this video, youd be stacking new boxes, on top of the boxes that are supposed to be leaving. a ship unloads, and then reloads. Sure you could section it off, but its more dangerous that way; for workers and the cargo to be "digging holes" as we call it. One container hangs up on a stack, and snap goes a wire to a billion dollar machine...
This has got to be the most stupid and unsafe way to run a Port operation. You people are sitting in a office behind a computer designing a bunch of bull shit on the back's of men and women who risk there lives to keep goods moving through this country while providing for their own families. I'm for creating a safe working condition, not a worker-less condition that is even more un-safe for ship crew, dock workers, security guards, mechanics and other personel for the sake of your deep pocket.
I believe in this video, there are many good ideas to see, some practicle situations are missing, like putting in the twistlocks .
I'm working on an half automated terminal in Rotterdam, Euromax terminal , ECT.
Check my video's so you can see by yourselve.
