I know it's only fictional but I'm sure there are lots of people like that. What is wrong with them?! What has these things got to do with these people??!
Perhaps it has something to do with their intelligence, some people are too ingrained with conventions what's considered "normal" and what's not. They don't seem to use their brains to think, analyse or empathise.
