Great song written by Clapton and George Harrison. It was untitled until Eric misread one of George's scribbles on the sheet music. He had written "bridge", indicating the bridge section, but Clapton thought he had written "badge".
@lawrenceb51 they say the best things are often the simplest of things....hey, django lost the use of 2 fingers so all his solos were done using only 2 fngers on his left hand...he only used the other 2 for chord work.....i dont think he used his thumb but hey he was django.....
Every version compared to the original sounds absolutely inferior in my opinion. This said, Gadd is a monster and the ending coda with the keyboard solo (bar the "Love is my badge" vocals, which I don't like) is excellent
in fact clapton and kirk hammett are my role models
stop stereotyping, you don't know much
he's from a unique generation the way i see it there will never be another clapton, do you not think us 'kids' would give anything to be able to play as technically or as emotionally well as clapton?
and if you're saying kids as in you me at six etc...they're just posers..
The original was better, he does something funny at the end of the first few lines ie. "dark" and "park", I don't know why he changed the intonation ,but as in most cases the original was better.
Years ago I met David Gilmour in a pub in Fulham. I told him I thought he was better than Eric Clapton. I take it back. And hey, the black bros really add to this - I mean the keyboard and bass!
This song never gets old. I absolutely love this version. The sound is amazing, the bass lines are awesome, the solos are killer. It's literally perfect.
@utmmusicman Take a look at 2005 Cream reunion man, that's THE version; what are they doing here all those fucking keyboards with their horrible sounds here? Ginger Baker, Jack Bruce and Eric Clapton, that's all we need. Personally don't like bass line, the guy seems to stand there and say: look how I can play! That's not rock'n'roll. That's not the proper grip of Eric Clapton's sound, that's not killer at all.
This is one of the reasons why I never attend live shows. Silence of any kind is never tolerated by the audience; they have to fill it with cheers and whoops. Imagine how great that guitar would sound coming out of complete silence. But no... It never happens, except on the studio version.
I have to admit, i feel that all of Claptons classic songs sound just so much better in recent live versions compared to the original studio versions. I never liked Badge that much but I heard from many that it was good so I gave it another try with this. Love it!
@gre1990 if you had it any guitar knowledge you knew that isn't true, but as ashhel5 says, it is an anagram for the strings on the guitar E A D G B E. Although clapton said he got the name because of Harisson's weird handwriting, where he read Badge instead of Bridge.

Ive been following Clapton for over 40 years, and no matter what his detracors say, the guy is pure class.
His voice is actually just as good as his guitar playing.
...AND he's writtens some of THE classic songs of the 20th century.
SIR Eric....surely?!?!?
If that simpering old queen Elton John can be knighted for services to....god-knows-what...then surely Clapton deserves a knighthood????
