Actually you can overdose on marijuana, it's known as "greening out", and although not directly leading to death, I believe that intense nausea is induced.
You would have to eat the MJ thats the only way you could green out. Even then six hours later you would level out and be just fine. Taking anything in too high a dose is a bad idea.

The government can't make money off of it, that's one reason why they don't outright make it legal and tax it. And even if you grow your own.. chances are they would be indoor, and organizations like the DEA look for things like power spikes or the buying of horological equipment when going for home-growers or small time dealers. And even then, people have ways of finding out if your growing.. and your life may be in danger if they do.
