  • THE MASTER CROOK

  • mulally is a genius along with bob lutz from chrysler

  • I dont understand why management was allowed to simply opt out of their concessionary obligations, while the hourly people are being subjected to involuntary servitude, being forced to labor under their concessions.

  • GO FORD

  • This man saved Ford and Boeing!!!

  • Ford, please start using better interior materials. use less grainy and hard materials. make it feel more expensive. And please make your cars less boring. like the Fusion v malibu, the malibu looks much better. your cars need more character. and PLEASE redesign the ranger, and revamp its engines. I like Ford's values, what they try to do. But, you really need some better stuff!

  • One of the best Corporate Personell decisions, this is the guy behind the success of the B777 and upcomming 787, now leading FoMoCo into a new era of success ...sometimes this whole capitalist thing works out well. Keep it up!

  • Alan for president!

  • This is a great move to allow the FORDS and the company to be once again the leading auto maker in the world. The result is the new American road./ Australian Road.

  • Class act! I love Ford Motor Company!

  • One of if not the best CEO in the business today.

  • Nice to Meet you today Mr. Mulally! Remember Phil Clark in all your journeys!

    Holly Clark

  • Alan is calm and polite gentleman..

we have seen good transformation in the past 2 years..

  • IIHS Top Safety Picks Ford 16, Chrysler 0

JD Power Initial Quality and Longterm Durability Ford Above Average, Chrysler Below Average

Consumer Reports Ford Quality Above Average, Chrysler Below Average

Consumer Reports says "Ford is now tied with Honda and Toyota in terms of quality" while "Chrysler quality continues to deteriorate".

Great Job Ford! Keep it going and don't end up like Chrysler with a self inflicted ruined reputation from screwing over so many customers.

  • @dodgechryslersucks Chrysler has lost its reliability since 93, when they were taken over by corupt asses. Im glad the BOTH GM and Ford are on the rebound. I love Most new vehicles from both. If I could afford a new Silverado or F150, youd better believe Im goin for it! But when I get my liscens, Im probably gonna end up with my Grandmother's 92 Ford Aerostar. Which im fine with that! I love that van!

  • Mr. Mulally and Ford have an excellent plan in place. The all new Fiesta coming to the U.S. in early 2010 looks very, very exciting! I've heard nothing but great things about this car. Also an all new, redesigned 2011 Focus coming in late 2010. Ford's quality right now is better than Toyota's. I recently compared an '09 Focus to an '09 Corolla and the Focus was far superior. The Corolla had nothing but cheap, flimsy, brittle feeling hard plastics througout its interior. GO FORD!

  • the answer is reliability...

  • Seems like a nice person.

  • Ford needs its European Models here ASAP, and we need the diesel powered cars here, too!

  • NICE!

  • You hit a point where you realize you have nowhere to go, and step down and listen to what the consumer wants. I applaud Ford for even CONSIDERING bringing their European models to the US. A bit off topic from the video but I just had to mention it.

  • Just floatin' it out there...

How 'bout Ford Motor Credit* making available a plan by which future Ford buyers can start putting money into their future transportation needs (*and, possibly Ford Motor Company stock and/or bonds), every month. Then, in a few years, they can pop into a dealership, point at the wheels they want, then merely adjust their monthly amount to pay off the new wheels and lay the foundations for their next wheels.

    * Possibly in league with your investor relations folks.

  • So what's the deal, popduds? Why the personal vendetta against Ford? Under Mulally's leadership, Ford has now caught Toyota and Honda in quality, per Consumer Reports. Also in fuel economy -- the new Fusion Hybrid Ford just intro'd gets 6 MPG MORE than Toyota's Camry Hybrid. And Ford is not asking for ANY of the loans that GM and Chrysler want. Ford is on a much stronger path, and their excellent Euro small cars are about to be built in N. America.

  • Ford officially released a statement last nght that they are withdrawing their bid on the short term loan.

This mean only GM and Chrysler will be receiving the bailout money.

  • Ford never had an interest in a short term loan. We were there to support the industry and to ask for access to an emergency line of credit, should the economy worsen or one of the other automakers file for bankruptcy. We are confident in our liquidity through 2009.

  • Keep going in the same direction you are. Good Job.

  • i hope this industry gets their money, they badly need it, i think mulally is on the right track with this company. even with critics on their backs, funny how AIG didnt get this much grief over their bail out that has cost three times as much as the auto makers are asking for, where was all this criticsizm when AIG needed a 2nd bail out? as for chrysler, they need to go ..."next"

  • Great video. Seems like a nice guy.

  • i personally own a very small buy here pay here carlot and even in 10 years of business... never seen it this bad...

i like the ceo of ford even though i have trouble pronouncing his last name... from to whom much is given much is expected.. this ceo has turned ford around without him they would be in same situation as gm/chrysler. he has cleaned ship.. sold all products that are not making profit and focusing on what ford is. work trucks and economy cars bread and butter..good luck cardealer7

  • Ford,

Thank you for opening this youtube account and leaving the comments active. I think it shows confidence in your company and products. I wish gmblogs did that. I truly wish you and Ford the best of luck. It makes me sad as an American that the Detroit three are begging to DC for a handout or taxpayer guaranteed loan, when the others (auto manufactures) seem to be fine. I hope you guys can get it together.

    Sincerely,

    A F150 Fan

  • How many people could have stayed employed for Mulally's $760,000 of "personal" corporate jet use... or the massive bonuses that were handed out to management in 2008??? Does he really care about the working families trying to make ends meet? I do not think so.

  • You must have missed the SNL skit of the CEO's! LOL!

The "woe is me" ... "give me money"... "or else lots of jobs will be lost." The US Auto companies are long overdue for a rehaul. These CEO's really don't care about the working families... they are only there to first, fatten their own wallets, and second, have their companies survive.

  • So the "Big 3" have the nerve to ask the US taxpayers to subsidize the US autos so the "Big 3" could fatten their own wallets and FIRE thousands of unnecessary workers!

Remember, the US taxpayers did NOT force the companies to have Unions. It's also pretty pathetic that Ford did not see this coming 7 years ago. What are they BLIND or STUPID?

I agree with Senator Dodd. Those morons in management need to be fired.

  • Loan is something that may help to Big3. On the other hand PAYING ppl that a company has no use for only raises the loss. And this is exactly what yo suggest. How dare you to criticize Detroit for being stupid???

  • Taxpayers did NOT force companies to have Unions? Are you kidding? Did you know that taxpayers are ppl? And what kind of ppl gave the Union the power? Do you think Unions are in Detroit because management invited them?

Or do you think Unions came to Detroit, humbly asked and when rejected they said "OK, forget it" and went home in peace?

  • It is well known (not to you obviously) fact that Henry Ford once said that Unions will be in Ford only over his dead body.

But your comment is rather funny in general.

FYI current FoMoCo CEO has nothing to do with former (undisputed) mistakes FoMoCo made. If you ask to fire Mulally ur just stupid. And same applies to said senator.

  • Yaroukh, you are really getting riled up over there.

Are YOU part of Ford management (that was around 7 years ago)? I don't think Dodd was necessarily targeting Mulally when he was referring to Ford management.

The newpapers are saying that over 60% of the American Public oppose the auto bailout.

  • LOL, I feel you're short of arguments and you know that.

    1) No, I'm no manager, I'm not even American.

    2) But we are having conversation under Mulally's video; so I believe it would be fair to mention Alan as an exception when bashing about "Big3 crappy management".

  • And 90pct+ of American Public was against _giving_ the 700b to banks. Now PLZ compare "giving away 700b" to "loan of 34b".

I wonder whether "60pct of American Public" is ready to face the consequences of GM and Chrysler going belly-up (which would result in FoMoCo following them soon)... And I'm pretty sure those 60pct of ppl simply haven't thought about what would happen if that much ppl lose their jobs.

  • the "moron" you see here wasnt even around 7 years ago. he was hired 2 years ago, and helpped immideately turn the corner on this company, thanks to him, we are on the right track. but gm, however, has had red ink rick waggoner for 10? years or so

  • If you can't get the money in the marketplace, it's because investor don't think GM, Ford, or Chrysler can pay them back by effectively using the capital so why would the taxpayers want to be forces to fork over their assets instead. I for want DO NOT want to invest in these companies. Declare bankruptcy, reorganize, and let's get these assets in the hands of people who can manage them instead of the current management hired by current stockholders.

  • 1) Reorganization in FoMoCo goes well.

    2) FoMoCo is not in a need of declaring bankruptcy.

    3) Making so would inevitably hit sales very hard.

I hate ppl talking about things they don't know and don't care to know. :(

  • yaroukh,

If you and Ford want to reorganize and do not declare bankruptcy, I wish you all well. If you choose to invest in Ford, I hope you see a gain on your investment. However, I do know this and I care about it a great deal. I don't care to invest in Ford with my tax dollars and your position to take those assets from me and other Americans to loan them to Ford is truly immoral regardless of how successful Ford is in the future.

  • What if the government couldnt help them, what could happen? Hundreds of thousands of jobs will be lost also GM and Ford cars will be worth nothing. A huge financial disaster will take over the US financial system, but lets hope not. I'm with bailout ASAP

  • The government already intervened by giving out billions of dollars to the banks to unfreeze the credit crisis which was supposed to fix this. The government can not and should not continue to intervene and micromanage the private sector. Does GM/Ford/Chrysler want the government to start telling them how to run their businesses? I do not think so!

  • NO BAILOUT!!! These companies have BAD management. In 2007 alone, Mulally spent $760,000 on "personal" (not business) corporate jet use. He has total compensation of $22 million. Ford also gave away free computers to its employees in 2000 when it was losing market share! IN 2008, FORD GAVE OUT HUGE BONUSES TO ITS MANAGEMENT in 2008 even though the company is going down!!!! NOW THEY ARE AFTER THE TAXPAYER DOLLARS???? NO WAY!

  • Kate, I've read your post quite a few times now, and all I can ccome up with is that you are a blathering fool. Do you work in the auto industry? Of course not. But I'll bet you shop at WalMart! It's people like you who buy foreign over American who will drive our great nation into the ground. If you don't stick up for your fellow Americans, who will stand by you when your job is eliminated because of foreign forces? Good luck with that.

  • If you are finished bashing a taxpayer such as myself, maybe everyone could ask why the banks couldn't extend this bridge loan to the companies? I thought that was the whole reason the taxpayers funded the banks recently. That being said, the taxpayers should tell the banks how to use that money -- that is, the banks should extend bridge loans to the car companies at a low interest rate.

  • The banks got their bailout without being remotely questioned. They don't have to pay back the monies given to them. The automakers are more than willing to pay back with interest. And, the banks couldn't afford to hand out that kind of cash. Civics 101. Finished? I haven't even started. And you honestly don't have a clue about the financial situation in this great nation. So tell us, when do you graduate high school?

  • As brilliant as you think you are, I disagree. The banks have the money... The government just gave it to them... The government can just attach the string the government money (retroactively) which would require them to help out the auto companies.

  • No, I am not brilliant, by any stretch of the imagination. I'm old, fat, and ugly, if anything. But at 52 years old, I do understand the way the gov't. works, and with 34 years with the Ford Motor Company, I think I have a slight inclination on the health or lack of the auto industry of this great nation.

    I see you're 19. Stay in school.

  • I will stay in school!

BTW, I respect your experience and opinion (despite the fact we disagree). Best of luck to you! I completely support the working level folks and taxpayers alike! Unfortunately, I think the US auto industry transformation regardless (with or without bailout/bankruptcy) will in fact result in lots of job loss for the working level taxpaying people. :(

  • Kate0489...

Here at Ford, we've cut our employee numbers to the bone. There will be another round of cuts in roughly two months. If GM and Chrysler merge, untold numbers of employees and their families wil be impacted. Not good. Thanks for good wishes...:)

    Jeff...

No one is asking you, personally, to invest. Remember this is a bridge loan, and we will pay back every dime we borrow, plus interest.

Again, why wasn't the banking industry given so much grief? Oh, that's right politicians...

  • Hhmmm... so much for fellow americans keeping fellow americans employed. The massive job loss that is about to happen seems inevitable due to the competitive nature of the automotive marketplace. I have a feeling that Ford will continue to cut jobs even past January 2009 regardless of how things turn out.

Hopefully, taxpayer funds will be carefully spent.

  • If FoMoCo doesn't need the ppl why should they pay them? To make their product less competitive, so they can ask for money again? Would you be happy then? Oh wait, but that is exactly what hapenned, and you are bashing about Detroit for losing money.

  • You are correct. No one is asking me to invest. No one asks me if I want to pay taxes every year. I pay taxes that will go to you at Ford based on the threat that I will be taken at gunpoint to prison for not doing so. So I am FORCED to personally invest, as is every household in America. If I wanted to do it, I'd buy a Ford bond to provide that bridge loan. As for the banks, they should never have gotten partially nationalized either.

  • Woundtootight is a perfect example of what is wrong with detroit: ignorance, incompetence and finger-pointing. If an American buys a foreign car over an American, it is because they see a better value. Don't demand Americans buy American, instead make a product worthy of "Made in USA" and the sales will follow. Detroit has had its head in the sand for DECADES and does not deserve a bailout because of their incompetence. File bankruptcy and pray you survive, if not that's free market capitalism.

  • Are you saying Ford does not have products worthy of "Made in USA"? What year are you writing from? 2005?

In fact _YOU_ are making perfect example of what Ford faces these days - not poor products but ppl unaware of their products and the progress FoMoCo made.

  • Welcome to the free market economy, Detroit! If your competitors make better products (and they do) and you can not pay your bills (and you can't), then your business folds. It's a shame the American auto industry was so horribly mismanaged the last 2 decades. Building SUVs instead of alt energy R&D was a mistake. Creating job banks to pay laid off workers 95% of their original salary was a mistake. Waiting until it was too late to adapt was a mistake... perhaps the last one they get to make?

  • > If your competitors make better products (and they do)

lie (this is FoMoCo channel u know?)

    > and you can not pay your bills (and you can't)

lie (this is FoMoCo channel u know?)

    Neeeeext!

  • Please pull your head out of the sand, yaroukh. The fact is that Americans have been buying imports more and more because domestics are seen as inferior products. Ford is asking for a bailout because they are hemorrhaging money. I speak for most young Americans when I say that domestic autos are boring fuel-guzzling disasters. The youth is the future and you do not have our interest anymore. Taxpayers should not have to pay for your utter incompetence and complete lack or foresight. Neeeext!

  • You telling me to pull my head out of sand? ROFL

    OK, let's get to it...

    1) As for how are domestics seen - you obviously can not read in your own language. I was not saying domestics are seen any different way. What I am saying is, and that is pure fact you can not deny (well, u can, but who cares), that _current_ _FoMoCo_ products are perfectly competitive - safety, quality, design, mileage...

  • 2) As for Ford asking for something - get your facts m8, Ford doesn't need the money as long as the other two of Big3 stay in the business. Again - someone talking about something he doesn't know ANYTHING about.

    3) I don't have your interest - and why should I care about you?

Once again for the slower ones amongst us: I, am, no, manager. I, am, in, no, relationship, with, any, US, automaker. I, am, not, even, American.

  • popduds: I wish to you that you won't ever taste consequences of what you want to happen.

This is no good time for you (USA) to let Big3 die, even when ppl like you would probably deserve it...

  • In 2000, under the leadership of the current Ford chairman, William Clay (Bill) Ford, the Company announced a planned 25 percent improvement in the average mileage of its light truck fleet — including its popular SUVs — to be completed by the 2005 calendar year. This promise, however, remains unfulfilled.

  • In 2005, The US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) released its fuel economy report ranking Ford cars, trucks and SUVs as having the lowest gas mileage of any automaker in America.

  • In 2005, Ford announced its goal to make 250,000 hybrids a year by 2010, but by mid-2006 announced that it would not meet that goal.

  • Researchers at the University of Massachusetts have listed Ford as the seventh-worst corporate producer of air pollution, primarily because of the manganese compounds, 1,2,4-trimethylbenzene, and glycol ethers released from its casting, truck, and assembly plants. The United States Environmental Protection Agency has linked Ford to 54 Superfund toxic waste sites.

  • To paraphrase a recent editorial, "The American Auto industry messed up, big time. Poor quality? Guilty. Too many brands and dealers? Definitely. Lacklustre designs, over-rich contracts and too many SUVs? Yes, yes and yes."

  • "pwned"? I suddenly realize I am debating a 12 year old. This will be my last post. God speed American Auto Industry, you have only yourselves to blame.

  • No, you're just speaking with someone whose mother tongue is not English.

But I do understand, my son, that's what happens when ppl run out of arguments.

    "Thanks for playing."

P.S.: Next time don't try to mentor on on things you don't know nothing about.

  • u dum

  • alan is the best of the three ceo's in this "bridge loan" mess, even tho he is in the best shape of any of them, he seems to be more prepared and get along with the senators better, like the banking commitee hearins today. I am an employee of fords and i am currently at a technical school in oklahoma, i have already seen chrysler end their program next door in mid semster, and chevy keeps cutting thier students training, ford however has all area training centers still open. FOLLOW FORD!

  • The biggest foreign Automakers didn't contribute a penny for relief and recovery efforts after the 9/11 tragedy. Not even a penny came from Toyota, Honda, Nissan or any other foreign manufacturer (except a small contribution from Hyundai). Ford contributed $1 million to American Red Cross matching employee contributions of the same number plus 10 Excursions to NY Fire Dept. The company also offered ER response team services and office space to displaced government employees.

  • GM contributed $1 million to American Red Cross matching employee contributions of the same number and a fleet of vans, SUVs, and trucks. Daimler Chrysler contributed $10 million to support of the children and victims of the attack. Whenever the time may be for you to purchase or lease a new vehicle, keep this information in mind.

You might want to give more consideration to a car manufactured by an American-owned and / or American based company.

  • Apart from a small contribution from Hyundai, the foreign car companies contributed nothing at all to the citizens of the United States. It's OK for these companies to take money out of this country, but it is apparently not acceptable to return some in a time of crisis. I believe we should not forget things like this.

  • the role of the Auto company is to build nice and reliable cars not to provide charity funds. If they do, its good..if they don't its up to them..the only thing you should expect is good quality products.

  • Yes,Ford has sold many SUV's in the past. Ford has invested many years and many dollars developing alternative fuel vehicles, however, buyers weren't willing to pay the higher associated costs. Ford has found a way to fit the best of both together. The use of Ecoboost technology and 6 speed transmissions offer the highest fuel performance at the lowest cost (best bang for your buck). This, coupled with high safety ratings, top quality ratings, and new model lineups will carry Ford into the future.

  • Buyers where prepared to bay the assiosiated costs. 15% of new Toyota's are hybrid drive vehicles. The big three have been WAY behind the curve for DECADES. This is too little too late. I understand it's tough for the employees but in the end the imports make better cars. The big 3 cannot be salvaged.

  • FORD is doing right going Public supports the Customer Confidence. And in Fact Ford has a very professional engineering look the Escape Hybrid, Ranger electric conversion and the Ford Ethanol "Flexible Fuel" Vehicles.

  • buy american

  • I don't believe any auto company should get a bailout. The writing has been on the wall for decades and these companies failed to see it. They were building SUVs when they should have been investing in alternative fuel R&D. They have been paying laid off workers up to 95% of their salary NOT TO WORK! Tax payers should not eat the bill for their own incompetence. File bankruptcy and pray you make it through alive. If not, oh well.. that is how free market capitalism works.

  • Ok, fair enough. Did you also protest the humongous 700 billion dollar bailout for the bankers in their ivory towers, or did you think that was fine and dandy? We as a nation have hundreds of billions for the banksters, (who make nothing but interest and charge fees to the working man) and we cant help a business that actually makes a product? What have we come to when we freely give money to those who least deserve it, but neglect those really in jeopardy?

  • what a buncha spin, bullshit and inane drivel. sounds like some idiot actor talking about their new "sure to be a hit" movie just before it bombs in the theaters.

  • Don't bother commenting on something you quite clearly know nothing about, you just sound like an idiot and it's embarrassing.

It is a fact that 2 years ago Alan Mullaly recognised the state of the industry and the problems within Ford and went out and secured loans to fund a total re-structuring of the Ford Motor Company, which has been in the process of being implemented ever since. GM and Chysler did nothing. This is precisely why Ford are not in the same mess as the others.

  • I think FORD is strong and will stand when the others are gone.

  • Go Ford!

    Ford fan, Europe

  • Next we gotta get this guy on UStream live. At least he's out here and not hiding like GM's CEO.

  • I'm glad Ford is posting to YouTube. After this short term crisis is over we need to do a better job appealing to Millennials.

  • Mr. Mulally has plenty of passion for my Company. We are moving forward as ONE Ford. Those of us who work for the Ford Motor Company want to suceed, and produce the finest product available.

  • Alan, if the Congresscritters demand the death of the Mustang, do me a favor, flip them off, and leave. You gotta have some passion in Ford's lineup.

  • LOL Tell it like it is! I have a lot of respect for Mulally. He WILL pull Ford through this mess.

  • Yeah, I will never understand why people put Alan in the same boat as Red Ink Rick and Smilin' Bob. Alan has an actual PLAN for Ford's survival, and dare I say it, he'll be to Ford what Carlos Ghosn was to Nissan- their savior when things were bad.
