traction elevators work by having a motor at the top of the shaft pulling by cable. hydrulic elevator work by have at the bottom of the shaft the have just one big hydrulic ram.hydrulic elevators are used for 50 feet or less traction elevators are used from 50 feet to 1,300 feet thats how elevators work.
