  • I miss his pink strat... haven't seen him play it in a while...

  • looks like bb king

  • A sexy spaz.

  • Sometimes he plays like a man. Why can't he sing like one?

  • @bamboosa too bad e actually can.... wanna hear you sing the high Eflat..then we can talk u tonedeaf fuckface

  • fuck hes a spaz

  • @makeitrain47 well don't forget Boyz II Men, SWV, New Edition, Kenny Loggins, Bee Gees, etc. They're all OLD SCHOOL TOO. REPLY BACK. I just subscribed to you months back.

  • What a badass... He really got into it there

  • I have all of his music. This man is just amazing!!

  • Pure awesomeness there ladies and gentleman, a true artist.

  • This man doing his thing!!!.....

  • Before even looking at the comments below i knew there was going to be arguements about John Mayer playing the blues...

  • When he plays pure blues I think he's amazing. But those fucking cheesy ballad songs just keep coming. He'll never be a true bluesman, since he's obviously still milking the pop crap so little girls come to his concert and cry. What a waste of a genuinely talent player.

  • @SKAuthenticDank You retard. Its not a waste anywhere, Obiviously john loves blues, and feels the blues, and love to play the blues. Does that mean he doenst love playing other pop songs too? And dont say he doesnt incorporate the into his "pop" songs either. Listen to gravity and waiting on the world to change, i guess you can say that's a few of his biggest hits. There are FULL of blues phrasing in there! Both in the guitarplaying and the singing. You dont only have to stick to one style...

  • Btw, did he ever said he want to be a "true bluesman" which he aldready is? Have he? No.

I heard him say something like that he wanted to bring the blues into the future, and that jimi hendrix, srv, bb, albert king, all of the kings was his inspiration when he was learning the guitar at younger years, not that he was going to be the best out there (Which he in my opinion is, ) or anything, he just enjoys playing it. Stop complaining at his pop songs!

  • @makeitrain47 I hate today's music because It has NO REAL MEANING at all. You forgot to mention the king of pop Michael Jackson, makeitrain47.

  • @kimv020887 even though MJ is called the King of Pop, his music is too good to be labeled pop. It's definitely better than anything N*Sync or Britney Spears has put out. The more I've studied music the more impressed I've been with the way he arranged his songs.

  • @makeitrain47 Michael Jackson (R.I.P.) is the KING OF POP, makeitrain47. But he mixes POP with R&B and New Jack Swing sometime. He also entered Rock one time with "Beat It." In my opinion, Michael INSPIRED Britney, Justin Timberlake, etc. But yes, MICHAEL is BETTER than the two I mentioned. REPLY BACK.

  • @makeitrain47 You say that like "pop" is some dirty word that makes anything labelled "pop" instant crap. You do know that it just means "popular", right? Hendrix played pop music. Some of SRV's music was pop music. Clapton made pop music. Do they all suck?

  • @Muso992 dont forget about the beatles. all they put out (as a group) was pop music pretty much

  • @Muso992 sure they made it but they used instruments...not just todays pop thats autotune and computers

  • @Muso992 i notice someone watched the berklee clinic ;D but i agree, who the fuck cares about the shit that the media has thrown at him or whaterver! hes known has the BEST YOUNG MODERN BLUESMAN of the 21th century for a reason! its not a coincidence that he gets invited to play with clapton, jv, buddy guy, J.W, robert cray and so forth! hes a living legend to be that good at that age! my biggest influence!

  • @Muso992

    Exactly!

  • @makeitrain47 You could say its too good to be labeled pop, or you could say that Britney Spears and Nsync were just too shitty to be labeled legitimate music. They were just designed and formulated to appeal to the younger crowd and make shit tons of money. Just like Beibs, Jonas Brothers, etc. They may be popular, but they are not in the same ballpark as actual musicians.

  • @makeitrain47 why is your channel named makeitrain47?

  • @makeitrain47 I also hate today's music. LET'S AVOID TODAY'S MUSIC, makeitrain47. REPLY BACK.

  • @MrMusicM67 and also don't forget LES PAUL!!! REPLY BACK.

  • @kimv020887 Les Paul kicks ass! I saw the documentary about him,"Chasing Sound," and it includes videos of some of his gigs in New York before he passed. He's just amazing. I hope when I get to be 90 I can still rock out like he did.

  • @makeitrain47 I just subscribed to you.

  • @kimv020887 unfortunately, my page doesn't have anything on it. i just signed up so i can make comments and hopefully convince people of the truth, whatever that truth is.

  • John Mayer's soul is BLUES! Understand? even if he plays pop he plays blues...so be respectful of him. For example...listen to "Assassin" solo part...c'mon!!! that's pure S.R.V!!

  • LOL his face at 1:58 !

  • Yeah white guys can't play blues...uh huh just like SRV. Listen to any John Mayer Trio song, it's epic!! Watch the live in L.A videos and tell me he cant play. The simple fact is he can play, sing, and compose. He really is sneaking in more and more blues, most music these days is utterly absurd with autotune a sad excuse for talented music. He's said some dumb things, but what kid in his 20's hasn't? Come on now, he's utterly brilliant on that strat and on an acoustic for that matter.

  • @imprezzi and what about clapton. he is one of the best guitar players. and hes "white" and he plays the blues; he is one of the best ever.

  • @MrMusicM67 don't forget Jimmy Page and Jimi Hendrix. Don't forget them. REPLY BACK.

  • Press 2 for "Why did I forget my pick..."

Press 3 for " You better be scared b*tch"

Press 4 for "..Oh..Is my phone ringing? Where the hell is it?"

    Press 5 for "I'm...SO F*CKING MAD"

  • Between John Mayer & Kenny Wayne Shepherd they the best white blues guitarists since SRV..You do not have to be African American to have that special soul magic.Man listen to some of that stuff Larry Carlton is still putting out he is like a bottle of wine that gets better with age.

  • what? who said he can't play? i don't know what you're smoking but it's bad dope and you need help. john is the bomb. his faces are hideous but i love him anyway!!! haha

  • This is dead set awful.

John Mayer gets bashed for playing blues because he cant.

He should stick to the Mankini and talking shite -at least it IS something he is better at

  • @ruben1kord It feels a bit awkward for you to bbe saying that when BB King, Buddy Guy and Clapton have major respect for gim, Have you not seen him playing with Buddy guy, or any of his JM3 stuff?

  • it's ridiculous how John Mayer gets bashed for playing blues when he's really the only well-known artist of this generation who does. we have a bunch of crappy pop clones (like fucking Bieber and all those Disney kids) and other shitty music coming out now.

i was raised on the Beatles and later listened to Boyz II Men, so I know what good music sounds like. I'm glad I wasn't growing up in this era of generic crap. I hope young artists who enjoy and can play real music emerge.

  • @makeitrain47 well Mayer's a REAL artist, makeitrain47. REPLY BACK. I HATE today's music too and makeitrain47, what's your fave pop song of all time?

  • @kimv020887 depends what you mean by "pop". If it has to be the "pop" genre, "I Can Love You Like That," by All 4 One is definitely one of my all-time faves. it's old school. =)

  • @kimv020887 i like a lot of Michael Jackson's stuff, too, especially "Human Nature".

  • @makeitrain47 Jack White... It's a bit sad that John Mayer is the most recognizable blues player out there. I mean he's good and stuff but by no means excellent.

  • @StillStuckLearning i may have heard of Jack White. i get your point. John Mayer definitely isn't the best blues player out there, but he's the only one the average person has even heard of, and the average person doesn't even know him for his blues, they only know him for his pop stuff.

  • @makeitrain47 Which is sad. His pop stuff is crap.

  • @StillStuckLearning Now that's a bit harsh. Some of it is crap *cough*yourbodyisawonderland*cough* but some of it is pretty damn good. He uses interesting cord progressions and substitutions in a lot of his songs but still manages to make it catchy to a large audience. A few of the songs on Continuum have good guitar parts and a lot of soul to them.

  • I don't listen to this dude much, but from what I've seen, his live performances (that's all I've heard so far) are awesome.

  • shut the fuck up and listen to the music people

  • so drunk and so high

  • I am John Mayer's biggest fan... But this sucked terribly

  • @nvs617 so you like all his shitty pop music?

  • @pzqlak Actually he is a very good songwriter and so what if he has pop songs.... Who cares if he does pop stuff?? Paul McCartney, Eric Clapton, John Lennon all made pop music in their careers and their pop stuff is some of the best songs EVER

It's not like he's using auto tune or drum machines on everything... He uses REAL instruments because he's a REAL musician.... You can say whatever you want but I bet your best song couldn't match his worst song, that's if you're even a songwriter....

  • @nvs617 Ya what i am saying is this is better then all of his pop shit, it doesn't suck at all.

  • @pzqlak Are you kidding me???? Dude I don't know what you're talking about.... Look up the following "pop" songs of John Mayer and tell me if this video is better than any of them:

    Neon Live in LA

Stop This Train Live in LA

Good Love On the Way Live in LA

Pretty much the entire "Live in LA" movie not including the trio blues stuff... Yes he's a a beast blues guitarist, but his pop songs are what define him as a great artist...

  • @pzqlak Pop's only bad when he music is computerized or the artists use auto tune, or when they don't write their own songs.

  • @verbw002 well verbw002 I agree.

  • Digging the SRV strap

  • I love his pickups. What I wouldn't do to get those....

  • My hope is that John Mayer makes enough money to quit producing music that we all know he hates, that way he can fullfill his prophecy of becoming to my generation what Stevie Ray Vaughn was to the early 90s/late 80's, and what Hendrix was to the 60's. Because we can't le the Blues die, and we need to creep the Blues in where we can.

  • @gotaids he'll never be the next SRV..... but i do like john mayer as his own.... hopefully he can build his own style over SRV like Stevie did with BB king

  • @gotaids

maybe he will. gets popular then uses his own music to change music today(or try to). its a good idea, selling out temporarily can be a good thing.

  • Damn he is a legend! Except for all the weird faces while playin

  • Let's say he plays 60% pop and 40% blues, imagine the monster he would be if he'd spend 100% with blues.

  • Gosh, I wish John didn't sell out with all the boy-band shit he does sometimes. He's one of the best blues guitar players out there.

  • the blues is not cultural you dont have to come out of the cotton patch are have a lifes worth of suffering to play and feal the blues check out quinn sulivan and tallan latz at 8 years old they could chew the blues up

  • such a sexy strap;)

  • to METALLIGEEK093 I sent you a message on your page.I don't know how to send to your email like you did to me.

  • @TheDevillll I got it lol

  • I sent you a message in your channel section.John Mayer your are a great blues player and I am sorry for making some bad comments here on youtube about you.Its easy for some one to dis people behind there back.As a musician myself I should have knew better than that. For people hating this video k its not his best stuff but good none the less and we should be more happy than angry we could have nothing but justin beavers all over the music world would not want that be happy we have Mayers.

  • @TheDevillll How are there wrong notes? This is blues. Most likely improvisation thats going on. Theres no format or formula to it. You play what comes from your soul.

  • Comment removed

  • @TheDevillll You can't make a mistake or play "outta tune" during an improvisational solo. So he hit a few notes that were out of key. Big deal. Those aren't "mistakes". I never said anything about any other type of music. We're discussing Blues here

  • This is blues all you jackass haters. You probably don't know what you're talking about because you know nothing about music.

  • @imesuckaholla that because everyone nowadays listens to shitty hip hop. And the other two idiots slinging their bull on here are worthless. This is very good blues. Ur jealousy is showing.

  • what a faggott!!!!

  • @geodoze Compare him to justin beaver would you rather that kinda music. I would rather listen to this for the rest of my life than have to hear 1 second of justin beavers so called music.I don't hate justin just his music ,but even him I will give credit too for the hard work he does.We may not like every artist but they all work hard for that we should be more conciderate and less hateful.Peace to all even the haters as ,I sometimes hate I will not hate no more.Life is to short.

  • if the audience heard this on the radio not knowing it was john mayer they would turn it off

  • @Imesuckaholla Sad but so true. I hate that he sings pop, he should stick to blues and just play the guitar, hes amazing!

  • @ Imesuckaholla so right damn people don't care much for music just the persona attached :/ so sad..

  • @Imesuckaholla no question. even when he plays crossroads on the today show you can see all the sore cunts in the audience saying "awwww man i wanted to hear heartbreak warefare"

  • @Imesuckaholla And John thinks they like him because his playing not because its John Mayer.

    lol

  • @Imesuckaholla Good thing it's John Mayer.

  • I guess you can do better ?

  • @Imesuckaholla That's so damn true it's not even funny. lol

  • @Imesuckaholla depends on the audience;

if a mayer hater heard this on the radio not knowing it was John Mayer they would turn the volume louder and enjoy the music.

  • @alxlief they'd be like: who is this cat? the feel and groove is amazing.

Ahh preconceptions, how beautiful you are.

  • @alxlief well alxlief, John Mayer is the modern day Clapton. He needs to stay out of the SHOWBIZ LIMELIGHT.

  • @alxlief I totally agree. People make 'rules' in their heads about what is 'aloud' to be cool and what is not. If it's good, you gotta drop your ego and call it like it is.

  • @11jupitercowboy8 Haha, I said "aloud" instead of "allowed". I guess that makes ME cool :op

  • @Imesuckaholla haha that's the truest statement ever. but good God i love the blues and john mayer is one of the only ones who can still play it well today

  • @Imesuckaholla but john is the kind of guy you directly identify after the 1st bend ^^

  • @Imesuckaholla no? what

  • @Imesuckaholla sadly yes. some of the teenies problably think hes playing a trumpet....

  • @Imesuckaholla Amen to that my friend!

  • @Imesuckaholla sure, but anyone who know good music would listen without knowing that this was john mayer

  • @Imesuckaholla as a John Mayer fan, I agree ;D!

  • @Imesuckaholla yea dude so true. Its really sad

  • @Imesuckaholla You're a fuckin idiot

  • @buttcrack96743 ooooooooooook...........

  • @Imesuckaholla I wouldn't.

Blues is the best genre os music, no competition even accepted.

  • u dont have to be black to play the blues. i mean eric clapton is kinda pop/blues/rock and hes white he's from the u.k and stevie ray vaughan joe bonamssa u.because he plays pop and throws alittle blues/pop/rock dont mean knowing. he likes what he plays thats all that counts.rosaparks312353

  • BB King?

  • john mayer would be great doing johnny croots 'big time loser' on itunes. it would suit his style

  • Ladies and gentlemen... The many faces of John Mayer. Lol! I love his music, and his guitar playing. But the faces he makes always make me laugh. But it just shows how into it he's getting.

  • His blues skills are undeniable.

  • And this was almost 7 years ago, he's a freakin' kid!

  • i love all mayers music but i wish he would stick with blues. but i guess he wouldnt get (as much) poon

  • I first heard of him in 2008 through 2 friends at school when i continued into further Ed.

He is awesome! I've seen him twice now, Once in London at the Hammersmith and Again in Cardiff at the International Arena.

    Brilliant shows!

  • He looks like he needs to take a shit when he plays the guitar, plays good though

  • I hope you guys recognize that he's mimicking BB King!!!!! thnx for uploading

  • It's at Rod Laver...combining my two favorite things, tennis and John Mayer.

  • mad face means diggin it.....me too!!!

  • Beautiful.

  • Is he high on something??

  • Taurus. How can you honestly think that?! He's like one of the only talented modern blues guitarists out there. Have you seen some of his dhit with BB King? Buddy Guy? He can stand his own with the best ever. But you know what it realy doesn't matter, if he's earned the respect from them(which he definetly has)he definetly doesn't need yours. And what's up with the racist bullshit man? Cause he's white he can't play the blues? Wake up dude.

  • PR unfortunately is a powerful machine. A lot of these older musicians team up with popular younger performers because it attracts a younger audience to their music which equals more revenue. I don't think this guy belongs in the same room let alone on the same stage as these greats...just my opinion. Also have you ever listened to real blues, like Muddy Waters,SKip James,Son House, etc.?

  • @taurus1269 You can't legitimately think John Mayer can't play the blues?? Hell, BB King thinks John can play the blues!! Just because he's not a black man from the south doesn't mean he doesn't feel the same emotion the make the blues what it is. I think John Mayer's PR saves him. Because he plays pop, youth love it. Look up his stuff and find out his influences. He's slying creeping the blues into this generation. Have you listened to his Try! album? Have you heard Gravity?

  • @RosaParks312353

its because john mayer doesnt have feeling.. this is horrible on my ears

  • @RosaParks312353 The entire Continuum album and Where the Light Is is basically all blues with a few exceptions. Then Battle Studies was a momentary lapse of reason.

  • @RosaParks312353 everyone can play the blues, everybody has the blues.

  • Are there any dudes in the audience or just chicks who wanna bang him...I can't stand this guy.Just another hokey white boy who thinks he knows the blues.

  • @taurus1269 I agree witcha....He;s good but I dont need to see those goofy facial expressions every lick....

  • @taurus1269 Blues as I'm sure you must know, is about the feeling and soul. Although I agree this is sort of mainstream and fake, that doesn't deny the feeling. I'm not a huge John Mayer fan, but I (as can other people) see talent and feeling when it's there. John is a little inexperienced imo to reach his full potential but he is getting there. Also, forget skin colour, you should be big enough to ignore it, the beauty of music is based on ears not eyes.

  • Please check out Doyle Bramhall II. Here's a guitarist the music industry tossed to the side because he refused to play their game and stay true to his art. ..and yes some white men can play the blues i.e. Clapton,Richards,Ry Cooder,Vaughn...unfortunately John Mayer is not one of them. More power to him for being successful.

  • @taurus1269 People who post dumb comments of any sort have absolutely NO understanding of the blues. At all. The blues isn't about competition between guitarists, "stealing licks", race, being a legend, comparisions of talent, or any of the other garbage you could think of to knock this. It's the MUSIC. It's the EMOTION. It's tellng a story with your guitar that people can relate to. You clearly don't know very much about John Mayer. Scope around on here and you'll find out who he is.

  • @taurus1269 ur so ignorant it makes me chuckle

  • John is an amazing blues player. Loved that jam, it was also funny

  • I would like to not like him, but he is pretty good. I'll have to keep my jelousy under wraps, for now!

  • Great voice Great Guitar slinger go John!

  • Digging the SRV music note strap

  • he was so young and cute haha love his fashion style

  • Nice thing, but hey, Jeff Healey did this lap-style playing much better...

  • At 57 seconds he starts to make some hell funny faces. But he still knows how to play guitar, really well.

  • is a fender SRV?????wow

  • john mayer isnt a cunt. he's awesome. to the poster of this video, do you have any more video from the 2004 concert?

  • what a cunt.

looks like jude law. this is howling wolfs legacy?

    hornswoggler.

  • He should play more blues in his music and less pop. (my opinion) He's a great guitarist but I just can't stand his voice

  • @colosalblack you cant stand his voice? fix your ear.

  • @sayatidakmati I don't need to fix my ear because as I said in my coment it is MY OPINION. I'm not saying he's got a bad voice what I'm saying is that in MY OPINION I don't like it even though he is fantastic at the blues.

  • good... OK, but not more than that.

  • johnny croot and friends 'big time loser' would be great by john mayer

  • He looks like he's in 8th or 9th grade here.

  • che faccia da cazzo

  • nice!!!!!

  • guitar sounds awful.. like a bontempi battery guitar .. its all in the sound too ..hes miles out.. sorry does not get my vote.

  • @gasserized Probably sounds bad cause this is from a camera's microphone. A digital camera. They make everything sound like crap.

  • theres something missing here . oh yeh . blues..lol

  • what the hell is wrong with his face

  • @gfmgma There's nothing wrong with his face. That's a little something called a Guitar Face. Typically resembles a look of pain, but in actuality it is the face that a highly skilled guitarist makes when reaching the climax of a solo. John Mayer is very well known for his Guitar Face by the way. Words like 'Passion' come to mind. I can't play a note, don't even know a clef from a sharp, but even I understand the "face"

  • he needs to start playing blues more, but til then, he's still a pussy to me :D

  • the face thing is a bad copy of walter trout talkin with his guitar. type "Walter Trout (and his talking guitar) at the Yale" in and watch the original!

  • @sidpage69 you think he is copying a face? I make facial expressions all the time playing guitar, it just naturally happens.

  • @JeremyMoar its when he tries to talk with the guitar, check out the video that i mentioned and you'll see what i mean, Walter trout is a pretty awesome guitarist

  • he is wearing the same guitar belt as srv, tipical

  • @mike999999999999 you are gay kill yourself loser

  • @PRONeil06 ok, wtf, he is a srv fan, but why are you people telling eeryone on youtube the are gay and got to kill themselves, wtf is your problem, GET A LIFE!

  • looks like a dummy but some pretty nice licks and great tone

  • Dude, stop with the funny face.

  • joe bonamassa has more talent than john mayer could wish for

  • hahah

  • @coughlintm joe bonamassa may be a better guitar player but mayer is way more talented than him

  • wtf is so special about this.. monkey faces?

  • @ whoever said Mayer is copying famous players. Im sure almost everything you have played yourself has been played before. So being a musician isnt like copying, its about the music and what you put into it.

  • if you can sing it, you can play it...that's what a good guitar player like mayer does.

  • @danuk84 no all blues players well most who are really playing always do that with there faces check a vid of b.b kings :)

  • There are only 7 notes not including sharps and flats

    bb learned/ "borrowed" from others

the only "crime" is if you never acknowledge who you borrowed from

being a musician aint like being a thief

learn the difference and enjoy the music

  • who said he's copying b.b king and other famous blues players.... just b/c some1 puts a guitar behind their head and plays with their tounge doesn't mean their copying jimmy hendrix and passing it off on their own. it's just john mayer at his concert playing for the hell of it, so what if he's playing like a famous blues players, who doesn't attempt to. its just him playing for fun and playing like his idols. keep up the good work john can't w8 for battle studies follow up

  • Comment removed

  • what's wrong with this idiot?

    why he's so famous?

    jesus h. christ.

  • dont hate cause you'll never be great like him you piece of limp dick
