  • @SpoonyOne the ship was a military vessal.

  • Hmmm. I could use some napalm right about now I'll head over to Wal-Mart. LOL!

  • Comment removed

  • He can buy stuff like that because he finds the master schematics. Once he has them he gets clearance to those items. The only ammo you have at the beginning is for the plasma cutter , which is a multi purpose tool.

  • review planet Neptune

  • @SpoonyOne Well my theory on the tools and what not is this. The Ishimura (The Ship the game takes place) is a mining ship and has engineers on board. Perhaps the store is for the engineers and restricted to the rest. I could be wrong but I don't know.

  • Dead Space...it took me almost a year to get through it because it scared me that badly. I never played Doom 3, Resident Evil 4 nor System Shock, so I can't agree to anything though I can say that the concept for the game is fairly overused and sometimes jump scares are an issue but that's what made it successful. The chase sequence with that regenerating necromorph made me panic like crazy.

  • @buzzardkiller92 I agree completely. I haven't played either but it scared the shit out of me. I loved it though but I can't pass judgment on anything.

  • @alexgorman13 And I'm not passing judgement on anything either, but I do see where Spoony is coming from. Resident Evil 4 did bring something to the table to make the genre spark a bit more then most of the other survival horror games in it's time. But I died out of the Resident Evil games after 3, it just wasn't my thing anymore.

  • THINK OF IT THIS WAY ISAC HAS MILITARY ASSESS i MEAN THE OTHER NPCS GO TO THE STORE AREAS YET THEY CANT BUY IT

  • @balsto652 Isaac is a freaking Engineer. He is NOT a Soldier, NOR a Space Marine. The Plasma Cutter is a MINING tool.

For the last time, you people need to stop and listen to the actual storyline - read some of the official comics, read the logs. Isaac isn't, did not become (in Dead Space 2) and has never been a trained "Space Marine", military operative or Soldier of any kind.

Geez. Sorry to lash out on you dude, but it gets tiring as fuck.

  • @RebornAleph yes but think about it becas he is an engineer he has special acsess to all the stuff like before he got there they gave him all acses to the stores he probably suspected this tough i dont think so

  • @balsto652 thats always what i thought, plus quite a few of the guns are just industrial tools.

  • @RebornAleph << *whispers fanboy

  • @rickyirishman Yeah. I am a fanboy. Of common freakin' sense, that is.

  • @RebornAleph i whispered how did you here plus who the fuck cares if he is or is not a soldier its a fucking crappy crappy game anyway

  • @rickyirishman It isn't all that great, sure. Still, it's like saying: "You know. That country I don't care about. France, in North America."

It's wrong. And it's kind of dumb. Especially since the information you're looking for is right in front of your fucking face during gameplay.

  • Gameplay and story wasn't really new, but very well done and presented.

I would like to emphazise the use of sound, though.

Wow, it was cool in surround.

And I agree - why the hell does text have to be so damn small?

Is there some kind of font size tax I haven't heard of?

    Annoying even on HD TVs.

  • re4 and dead space are both great games. dead space wouldn't even EXIST without re4 , as well as other games wit O-T-S shooting. re4 revolutionized , dead space expanded....... and re5 is ugh, rather play re2 or code veronica

  • @Masamune7vii Why not? A bag of Doritos is just perfect for healing heavy injuries. Just like in real life. :D

  • your forgeting the blueprints that you need to get it in the store.

  • Nitpicking about the store man. Many video games have these sorts of elements. It's part of the video game culture and its strange to complain about it

  • he talks about buying food from a store in system shock to restore health as if it were normal compared to buying a health pack from dead space, okay yea food might be more realistic in a vending machine but i dont think a bag of Doritos is going to help heal a laceration as well as a medic kit.

spooner has good points but he also bitches/nitpicks too much. such is the life of an internet reviewer. i honestly cant blame him.

  • so its actually your contention that RE4 WASN'T a good game? Wow, even if it didn't live up to your horror-genre standards, its still quite a decent experience if not necessarily ground-breaking outside of its own series' essential gameplay paradigm. I doubt people in general would still want to be stuck in the ps1 era of isometric tank-control survival horror. And for niche gamers and purists who view any survival horror exegesis away from the earlier style there's always indie developers.

  • To the people down below. Get Resident Evil 4 out of your ass. Dead Space is nothing like that shitty game Resident Evil 4 you fucking idiots. Go play the original Resident Evil games then will talk. Because the 4th and 5th one are the worse. And maybe if you guys paid close attention to Dead Space you'll realize it is story driven. Fuck you RE4 fanboys!!!!!!

  • Well I actually find the store very useful, cause I kinda don't like to search for items all the time. XD

  • Many true things, but stuff like plasma cutter and flamer were both engineer tools. But buying fully auto guns for anyone i agree.

  • I'd rather see Guitar Hero R.E.M. than Guitar Hero Metallica...

  • XD I thought the same thing when I went to the store "oh... some ammo, didn't expect to be able to buy THAT here... but okay, gonna go with it"

  • is it weird that dead space doesn't scare meh

  • Burton reminds me of a chumtoad from Half-Life 1 beta. I like R.E.M. (I don't care what Dennis Leary says...they're avant garde).

  • i always thought deadspace was like resident evil 4 but also kinda like pandorum...or whatever came first

  • I don't think Dead Space is very story driven. It's more about tension and getting scared.

  • Comment removed

  • I know this is like 3 years old, but the reason you can buy that stuff in the store is because of your engineer ID. I imagine your average civilian would not be able to buy such merchandise.

  • R.E.M. and Beck. It would be fun listening to their music while playing Dead Space. Some parts of that game remind me of Space Quest 2. What Spoonman said about buying stuff from stores on a space station (especially flamable fuel in that environment) is exactly what I asked myself when playing it. Buying guns and stuff from vending machines in Borderlands and Bioshock makes sense because of the nature of their respective worlds (i.e.: not on a space station).

  • *calling this out now, I have ds2. I dont own ds1 but I know the story of it*

a question within an answer: you need to find schimatics to get certain items in the store like the flame thrower. so would that mean every single person would have some sort of online account like ebay?

  • RE4 in Space lol that is a bunch of crap. Listen I have been playing RE since PS1. After playing RE4 I said "that's it RE is dead". What Dead Space has done for me was, it gave back that scare factor I have been missing for a long time. Where as RE4 took that away from me. On the plus side you can move, aim and shoot as the same time. I understand that RE4 was revolutionary at the time. But what the fans forgot was that it wasn't RE anymore. Dead Space all the way baby!

  • I have to agree when he is talking about the store.it's kind of like the weapon shop in bioshock.

One, who needs a vending machine for shotgun shells five feet away from another

Two, why do they sell napalm and crossbow bolts in the stores. I find it weird.

Three, if you hack the machines, why are other kinds of ammo available sometimes. I understand lowering the prices

    Really,I can't get over that

  • Its resedent evil 4...IN SPACEEE!! Very funny, spoony

  • hahah true, new games have such small little texts..why the fuck is that?? i remember james talking about it while playing street fighter 4, i also couldn't fucking read shit in MGS4, kinda makes me feel like i'm getting old

  • Never played all the way through Resident Evil 4, but it seemed very good, and the new over-the-shoulder-system was very good at the time. As you rightly point out, Dead Space employs the same vantage point, as it feels restricted and claustrophobic and amplifies the fear element.

I genuinely found Dead Space to be quite jumpy and unnerving, but for the fear factor to be best effective, you ought to play it loud on a 5.1 digital system as the in game sounds is what really creeps you out.

  • damn, dead space, i still love you, except you make me turn around every 5 seconds after i turn you off

  • I just discovered this channel thanks to Kickassia (which was fortunately mentioned in a recent Angry Joe inter-review vlog) and am really glad about that. I think this may actually be the first time I can just sink into listening to some pure ,,ranting" about something. Dunno, but you do seem to have some magnetic personality.

  • i expected you to criticize this game like you did with ffviii. i fell asleep when you started talking

  • I have to correct you on one point, you first need to actually upload stuff to the store, so that (I think) excuses it.

  • The Thing + Event Horizon = Dead Space

And that's a good thing. Scared the shit outta me!

  • Is necromorph a reference to xenomorph from the alien movies?

  • dude i get scared of the old resident evil for the ps1 i cant even try to play dead space xD

  • I guess Resident Evil 4 IN SPAAAAACE! is fair except for one thing: The controls suck A LOT less. you can move while shooting, you can change weapons much better, you can strafe (GOD FORBID STRAFING!) and the story is decent. I give it an 8 out of 10 personally

  • I agree with you with the text size thing, I rarely play dead rising because it suffers from the same thing and I also don't have and hd tv, I mean I understand if you going for a minimalist feel, but if the text is the size of a flea, who in the hell are we supposed to get info or clues pertaining to the story

  • The only real problem I had with this game was, why are the engineers better soldiers than the security forces? I'm talking about Isaac AND Jacob temple.

Ok jacob doesn't make it, but he survives longer than any sec officer.

  • Well Issac is part of an engineering company and they use some of these tools to fix things or an infection go's down they might have to defend themselves but the CEC let's anybody as an engineer or marine can take objects like the plasma cutter but you need schematics to unlock things in the shop so that is how they get the weapons

  • do you play call o duty 2

  • @ThePimperial First of all, you should see a couple of the puzzle stages on Dead Space 2, second, the control is much more fluid than the first game, allowing kinesis to be smoother and stasis to actually recharge, and third, I love sequels that are extremely complex and have a deep story line and multiple tie-ins from the first game.

  • @ThePimperial you are a complete moron, first of all, this is not a brainless copy, it is a refined version of the first game, second, do you get hallucinations that scare the crap out of you in System shock, and third, THERE ARE PUZZLES, DUMBSHIT

  • if you dont want to hear spooney ramble about rockband click 2:20

  • the other major flaw for me was that in resident evil 4 it still felt like you still were controlling the character like a tank

  • Dead Space was one of the best games I've ever played and the second just blew my mind away. It's creative, cool, and very fun.

  • IN SPACE!!

  • Basically all the weapons in Dead Space are power tools. The Plasma Cutter is a tissue laser, the Line Gun is a mining tool, as the same with the contact beam.I dont know what the fuck a flamethrower has to do with power tools, but apparently something because the only real gun is the Plasma Rifle.

  • @Divider42 Maybe the flamethrower has to do with welding or something?

  • Isaac Clarke is an enginner, the flamethrower is like one of those ''engennering weapons'' It's used to some engennering function on the setting of the game

the store is just a way for the player to buy new items

  • you know maybe flame throwers are just popular among scientists. they had like five in the thing so maybe that is why there are flame throwers for sale.

  • Meh Spoony probably has a nice HD TV today so maybe he reviews dead space 2 and forgives the small text

  • Dead space is a lot like system shock 2 in that you're fighting an alien that reproduces through assimilation, and shares a consciousness

  • Should've got it for PC. I can read everything just fine ;).

  • If you used a flamethrower in a space station, wouldn't it cause, like, unforseen consequences or something? It wouldn't be like Lily C.A.T. (when they were using rigged flamethrowers). It would be more like Event Horizon.

  • @IggyHazard this is a mining ship, and the quote on quote "flamethrower" is a industrial repair machine

  • @Wentao1Hao Like a superweldotron?

  • @IggyHazard yes, the original design was to have a ark welder, which was a replacement for the rivet gun, look it up on the dead space wikia

  • @Wentao1Hao I love the concept art for that game!

  • Everybody type in "gift" before youtube then press enter

  • this review sucks

  • About the "Flamethrower" fuel, IT'S NOT A FLAMETHROWER! Everything you use are mining and repair tools, the Pusle Rifle being the only real "weapon". As for ripper ammo, why would he have it on him, he didn't have those on him at the start, they expected a few repairs to their comms and such, and your right the data logs explain all of this.

  • Man I ve got the same font problem as you with my old small tv. I just stopped playing some games because it was impossible to follow the plot. :(

  • you dont have your logo shirt on

  • It's an OPINION people... Lord forbid his opinion is different for your own, shock-horror, it's the end-of-the-world... I personally thought the game was very atmospheric and well-done (although the camera angles were a bit weird) - am I pissed off that he criticised something I like? Well, if I was, I'd stay away from reviews altogether - NO ONE'S GONNA HAVE THE SAME OPINION AS YOU! He brought up some good points, too - text in games really IS ridiculously small!

  • @jerrytheham72 Marry me, you clever dude! :D

  • @jerrytheham72 Agreed. I've also noticed other games with REALLY small text as well...What is with that?

  • @jerrytheham72 You aren't gona convince the whiners that way. I've heard that kind of argument thousands times. Probably these people are feeling insecure and not being confident about their own opinion. Otherwise why would they care about his review? His convincing words must be the cause of their insecure feeling because it contradicts with their views on their favorite games (they don't have a good counter argument).

  • Oh, and Spoony, I know I'm an ass for double posting, but the "weapons" you find aren't weapons. They're tools. Tools that WORKERS used while on the Ishimura. A miner walks by and says: "Damn, I'm a little low on cutter ammo, I need some more." He walks over to a store and buys some. Let me use a real life example. A nail gun is a tool, but it can be used as a weapon. A sautering iron is a tool, but it can be used as a weapon. Hope this answers your question.

  • dead space is pretty cool i think....except it gives you nearly heart failure ^^

  • if your settings are widescreen it will be harder to see the text. Try normal.

  • Well, there were people on the ship before, so they used stores and upgrade benches before they transformed into Necromorphs. Is that logical enough?

  • to the Flame thrower question. This game is a mixture of resident evil 4, doom 3, those shock games he was talking about, and last but not least John Carpenters: The Thing. there are many simillar qualities to this game that share the same qualities as the thing except the organism is called Necromorphs (which is a pretty bad ass name for this game) What im trying to say is that fire is a really gooa way to kill these things. Also with the store no one expected this when they got the destress.

  • they use rippers in mining

  • they use flamethrower in mining

  • I got this game today and almost crapped my pants also love your videos your better than the nostalgic critic:).

  • I got this game today and almost craped my pants also love your videos your better than the nostalgic critic:).

  • Probably already said before, but in System Shock 2, you can buy ammo from the same vending machines you buy chips from. Hell, you can buy grenades with your chips.

  • @sakanz Perfect for picnics!

  • The flamethrower was complete shit in this game, anyway,

  • It is a mining vessel. It seems normal that supplies are common place. In System Shock 2, it was a leisure craft.

  • i dont really like this guy.....lol

  • @FwankFilmsrock And...?

  • dead space was amazing for me. the graphics, lighting and environments were some of the best for any multiplatform game, but the sound design truly shined. holy crap the sound design was amazing, especially in the vacuum sections of the game. i loved the story, though it doesnt get great until toward the end

  • Lmao One of my friends made me play this game 1st time i tried Mush (and ive only tried Mush once) and Holy shit it scared the shit out of me xD

  • u should review borderlands

  • Question 1: It's not really a "flamethrower." Believe it or not, most of the games weapons are just mining tools. The plasma cutter was used to cut through diamond. The force gun was used to pummel through rock. And the flamethrower was supposed to melt ice from comets to get the minerals inside. Whou would spend money on it? You're forgetting that the U.S.G. Ishimura had a HUGE colony of people on it, so they needed tools to do their work.

  • Well the weapons on the game are tools that the crew used SpoonyOne. The reason why they put that in a store... I have no idea. Even in a abandoned, dead space ship, there really shouldn't even be some kind of economy system in the game. I mean come on! Do I really need to buy tools in a space ship that required the space crew to use and should be free any way? What is that, I mean, I feel bad for the crew that had to pay for the tools they needed to get something done! Sorry if I went overboard

  • I need a high def tv. also. ;.;

  • NOT REM!!!

    DEAR GOD NOT THAT!!!

  • Honestly, I don't even understand the purpose of this review. There are basically two gripes: Stores and weapon types. First of all, with stores he even admits that theres no real reason for his complaint.... so why have it? Would you rather rely completely on random drops from creatures? If that were the case, what would space zombies be doing walking around with money and different types of ammo? Answer: Because its a game! Suspend your disbelief.

  • isaccs a engineer for the usg kellion not a marine and he acidently ended up on the usg ishimura dead space is one of the greates horror games of all time deuce

  • its resident evil 4 IN SPAAAAACE!!!!(waves arms around)

    lol XD

  • @bfdhghtjhlkylhjdkgj AT4W fan?

  • @Pyromania37 wats AT4W? i have no idea lol

  • Doom 3, Bioshock, and Splinter Cell-series - Thats what Dead Space is built on. I enjoyed the game pretty much that i think im gonna go for the achievements to beat the game only using the plasma cutter. Its kind of a goal that i expose myself for. Its kinda great actually. otherwise you'll be like: nah, i cant take it. *quits*

  • @donne3434 i understand doom and bioshock (even tho its more like systemshock) but whats the thing aabout splinter cell its not a stealth game but its a third person shooter like any game

  • @Pyromania37 his mask :)

  • @Pyromania37

Splinter Cell, not a stealth game?

Conviction might not be as stealthy as the others, but if you don't go stealth, you're pretty much dead.

  • @LOLlhuntsman no i mean dead space is not a stealth game

  • In dead space u don't start with any weapons u find ur first wepon the plasma cutter which isn't meant for fighting it's for mining which is why there's ammo on a mining ship and the other wepons are schimatics u find on ur quest to kill them all

  • Comment removed

  • The stores would list items that were appropriate to the person using it. Most of the weapons in the game are engineering tools. The rifle is something I can't explain though.

  • dont worry, games are getting more realistic each year :)

  • Guys talking about Guitar Hero saturation 2 YEARS AGO! lol...3 times as many now.

  • "Rockband world tour" you mean Guitar hero world tour

  • ohhh tell me about it man. unclear text is a major proplem in a lot of ps3 games. i dont have an HD tv damn it its to fucking expensive but i can never read text with out gluing my eyes to the goddamn screen. ifeel ya man

  • I'm with you, man. I don't have an HDTV either, and the text is too fucking small. Now, if you'll excuse me, I'm going to go figure out how to make fire.

  • Dont forget the fact, you cant actually move while having a gun ready

  • text way to small on any tv

  • I totally agree with you at 6:40. I have no idea why fonts have to be so illegible! Even on HD tv's, I have a hard time reading. It's something I'd really like to see change in the industry.

  • this game has almost nothing in common with resident evil 4 except for the controls. Saying that is like kicking the developers in the balls and spitting in their face "P This game WAS MADE to honor sci fi horror movies not a crappy resident evil game :(

  • @fingertap15 resident evil isnt crappy you piece of shit!

  • @MrCodename4711

get out of here u RE fan boy, trolln my shit GTFO, fuckn idiot.

  • @fingertap15 oh hell no resident evil is the shit

  • lol the space guys name is issac and hes an engineer vlunteered to repair the ishimura (the ship) because his girlfriend (i think) is on it. P.S: i dnt even play this game that much

  • I love your videos but you nitpick on a few things I don't agree with games are suppose to suspend belief not embraced it to the point of reality otherwise why bother playing?

  • God! I thought I was the only one having trouble reading the text!

"OH GOD! MUTANT BABY ON MY FACE! CRAP! I CAN'T TELL WHAT BUTTON TO PRESS!"

  • u play a 360/ps3 game on 480p thats sad

  • @biplav32

    Not anymore lol

    He has an HDTV now

    You meant Spoony?

  • @biplav32 I do. :3 Not sad at all, since I'm not missing a thing.

  • A possible answer to the odd stuff in the store.

True, it originally was supposed to only dispense materials to help the crew mine and fix and blahblahblah stuff like that, but after the Necromorphs attacked, the Captain, (you gotta watch the animated movie for this one) could have authorized dispensing lethal materials. I mean, that's why they have military doods on the ship on the first place, right?

  • the stores could of sold normal things but after the nercromorphs start to attack the store could of sold weps and ammo and most of those things were for mining like the line gun and there were guards so they still do need ammo

  • you have to remember that your weapons are mining tools etc. If i remember correctly its a research ship and maybe there are some miners on the ship to help research. So maybe they might have to pay for there equipment sometimes. It might be a little crazy to have this stuff in the store. But the ship is kinda like a city or walmart it has everything.

  • man with the RE4 weapon thing im glad that they fixed that in RE5 so that you can switch guns in real time

  • WTF My comments got spammed. Probably by a whole bunch of Spoony fanboys. Let's get something straight: I DO NOT HATE SPOONY. I hate his Vlogs due to the Bullshit realism questions. I love his trademark reviews where he actually attempts entertainment. Geez I hate Youtube's spam/ thumbs down system. It is purely based on if somebody likes somebody else's OPINION.

  • i believe there is a setting ...an upgrade lol sorry - great review - this is my fav PS3 title to date - im excited for the sequel

  • You do such great reviews! 5*

  • the thing i don't get is why have issac go through the ship he is an enginer why not have hammond go through cause he is a officer

  • ive played dead space and i thought it was a really great game. u were saying why cant u find ammo on the ground and stuff but u can!!not neccessarily on the ground but u dont have to go to the store all the time.

  • Neat vid man

  • he's totally right about the text being hard to read in nex gen consoles

  • Me, Gorg, not have HD TV either.

Me, Grog, still use XP for operating system.

Me, Grog, ask sky God make fire.

  • XP for life

  • XP for--*browser crash*

  • XP has a more ergonomic interface than Vista.

  • I love XP, but my computer is an old irrelevant POS whose processor can't keep. Plus I can't get the most recent flash player update to work.

  • @TomMSTie I see you also have two names.

  • @SakuraAvalon And two hard-boiled eggs (honk), make that three hard-boiled eggs.

  • @TomMSTie me, Codename4711 like xp

  • @TomMSTie or maybe there low on money and aren't rich arses like other people

  • @TomMSTie XP is more user-friendly than W7. W7, just like Vista, tries to make too many decisions for the user, making its interface confusing and counter-intuitive. They should have simply improved upon XP instead of "revamping" everything. Movie Maker, for example, absolutely sucks in W7. You can't adjust the volume of sound files above its default! The problem with that is that sound files don't have standardized default volumes.

  • I agree with you on the real time menue thing, I loved that part about Dead Space, and in any game where you don't have to leave the action tto select a different weapon or use an item, great review dude.

  • I agree that there are a few similarities to RE4. Since RE4 was a big success, the same setup can still work. Dead Space didn't make the mistake of having you stand still to do things which means they can bump up the speed of enemies. Plus real time actions keep you from going to the store to restock on ammo while 10 enemies are supposed to be attacking you. About the store, maybe parts of the ship needed certain weapons and it really wouldn't surprise me if the crew had to buy most things there

  • The merchant doesn't sell ammo or grenades. You have to find them.

  • @TehSchimMan : Rofl, -2

  • This game is not RE4 in space i have to agree that RE4 is an amazing game though but still dead space is not a RE game

  • yeah i dont have a HD T.V. either

  • NO NO dead space does not copy that gameplay of resident evil 4 or 5 its gameplay copy off of cold fear because the gameplay is more alike for the fact that you move around as you aim

  • @lRandomGamerl I hate that game...

  • @lRandomGamerl but cold fear sucked

  • @lRandomGamerl and alien 2

  • Actually, his questions make a lot of sense: flamethrowers on a spaceship? The flames would combust the oxygen in the atmosphere. Granted, the air we breathe is not 100% oxygen, but it is still a bad idea. Also, if the air on the ship was 100% oxygen, everything in it made of metal would corrode very quickly... not to mention the explosions...

  • @Enkarashaddam There is a cheap argument that always answers that question. Its the future, they might have invented something. xD

  • @MrDavinsion... *SCIENCE!!!*

  • Good logic but remember, this is a work of fiction. Just the fact that there are massive spaceships and unreal creatures is ridiculous. The idea of usable stores on monster infested ships is just as illogical as lightsabers, demons rising from the depths of hell and just about every other piece of fiction ever written, books, games, films n' all. Besides, they need those work arounds to not be too restrictive, that's where the "Fiction" aspect comes in. We can nitpik everything thats fictional.

  • @metalmosh6 Aye, true. One can easily overlook all of these, especially in the middle of the action.

Though small details can always bother people (oddly enough). The larger elements can sometimes go completely unnoticed due to how much they offer in the immersion, it then comes to the smaller details to hold this veil over your head.

It has two choices then. 1: Attempt to be as realistic as possible, which is this game's direction or 2: Be as absurb as you want, which as a whole, will work.

  • @Enkarashaddam liquid hydrazine..Hydrogen. It doesn't -use- O2. Not hard to find.

  • @HotaruZoku Your chemistry is lacking. "Hydrogen" cannot actually combust on its own without oxygen; you can supply the oxygen (like a rocket), but even then you are just making a blow torch. Dead Space clearly shows flames being produced that spread and linger, which eats the surrounding atmospheric oxygen.

  • @Enkarashaddam

Well, it's not really a flamethrower, it's a hydrogen torch. You know those ltittle torches you use when sautering things? Imagine that, just bigger. The torches were used to melt the ice around comets so you can get the minerals inside.
