Early in his career, dunks like this where he completely humiliated dudes and their families in the stands were as common as a Larry Bird three-pointer...He couldn't be stopped and the only thing holding the Bulls back from winning was the coach and the supporting cast. Jordan was ready to win titles from DAY 1.
@MrR9999 There are very few people who go at the rim hard anymore in the NBA (when speaking of guards). But there are still some great dunks. Vince Carter and McGrady got hurt from going hard all the time. It was very lucky that Mj didnt get any injuries that hindered his game much. He did have torn ligaments in his fingers and the achilles injury his 2nd year, but luckily nothing that kept him from being great.
@Shermstyle23 After that ankle injury, MJ took every precaution to keep on top of injury. He'd work out every single day - even game days - to stay on top. D-Wade is using the same trainer now.
I agree about the weight lifting Unfortunately as the refs let more and more slide with the Pistons n later the Knicks being 198LB was not enough He gained 17-20lb of muscle most of which was on his upper body Id imagine just by his increase in arms, width and shoulders I'd assume his chest got bigger to I saw clips of him repping with 275 on the flat bench which aint bad. Problem is he IMO lost about 4-6" of vertical leap. But it did help him last longer n win more titles so was it worth it YES
funny thing is. Many todays NBA homers including MJ fans say If MJ had today's modern workout routine, he would take off from even farther away. Many dont understand, MJs natural athleticism wasnt tarnished with in the name of getting physically tough till 1990. A dunk like this is testament to it. His joints elasticity is all time high here thus making this break look so smooth & fluid. Thank god he wasn't lifting weights here yet.
Damn it , he jumped so far away from the basket , truely "his airness" !!!
