I visited USA (I'm from Ulster) around 1975 specificly to attendthe Brandywine Music Festival. Olabelle was performing then and was simply great. Got talking to her - really lovely lady. Thanks for posting.
One thelogical error in the song - God does not take our lives, if He did the murderers would be innocent of their crime because God used them to take the life.
That's your interpretation, and while saying that bad things happen because of bad people simply diverts blame from a God that's all-powerful, there is still a very large number of people in the world that believe ALL things that happen are because of God, good and bad. In the end, it all is. God decides, and we either accept it, or reject it and pass the blame on to someone else.
I did not interpret, I stated fact that can not be denied. It matters not what a lot of people believe - a lot of are wrong.
God is not without His limitations, there are many things He can not do. For instance: He cannot lie, He cannot show favouritism (be a respecter of persons), He cannot save a person against their will, He cannot prevent a person from sinning or make one sin.
Your way of thinking has God being guilty of making John Allen Muhammad kill ten people. You are so wrong!
So you're still willing to paint God only in the "Good" light. No arguement from me. I can't you're right or wrong, but trying to pass off the blame of all bad things doesn't change the fact that ALL things happen because God allows it. Yes, God can lie, God can change his mind, God can do any and everything.
You can say it's because of wrong or misinterpretations, but in the end, you only believe about God (or anything) what you want to believe. THAT is the definition of Faith.
Part 1. That may be your definition of faith it certainly is not the definition of biblical faith. The word translated faith in the Bible is "pistis." It means believing and trusting. To be specific to believe in God and in what He tells us through His word. This belief & trust to be based on fact. Anyone who believes anything without proof is a fool.
In hope of eternal life, which God, that CANNOT LIE, promised before the world Thats a direct quotation from God Himself, believe
Part 2. or not, the choice is yours. I can not change your mind, God cant change your mind. He has given us free will, He can not take it away nor can He make us do anything against our will. He does not make us sin God can't be tempted by evil, and God doesn't tempt anyone. Everyone is tempted by his own desires as they lure him away and trap him." Then desire becomes pregnant and gives birth to sin. When sin grows up, it gives birth to death. James.1:13-15. Also:- (see part 3).
Part 3. Also: far be it from God, that he should do wickedness; and from the Almighty, that he should commit iniquity . Yea, surely God will not do wickedly, neither will the Almighty pervert judgment. Job 34:10-12. If God was to make a person sin, as you claim He does, and then send him to hell for committing that sin then He would be perverting judgement, committing iniquity & doing wickedness, all against His nature.
No, friend, God is fair and just, He does not make people sin
Remember this: Hell is a construct that does not originate in any of God's words, but rather as "best interpretation" from Hebrew to Latin to English. The jewish people did not believe in "Hell" and punishment, merely lack of reward and distance from God in death, like getting seats in the nose-bleed section rather than front-row seats.
You're using purely FALSIFIED and blind-belief in Christian views. This is what makes your arguments weak and broken. ---->
1. Nothing false about what God says (Christian views), if you think there is please show us what was false in anything I wrote. I taught you that belief =faith and that Christian faith is certainly not blind belief it stands on PROVEN FACTS, Gods own words.
Hell is an English translation of Hebrew sheol the general word for all the places making up the unseen world of the dead the grave, Paradise, Tartarus, Gehenna, etc.The Jews (& the rest of Israel) certainly believed in its reality.
2. David was a Jew, he be;ieved Thou hast delivered my soul from the LOWEST hell (Gehenna) Ps 86:13 a place you would want to be delivered from. Also the wicked shall be turned into hell, and all the nations that forget God. Ps 9:17 - A place for the wicked & ungodly. Solomon was a Jew, he believed Thou shalt beat him with the rod, and shalt deliver his soul from hell. Pr 23:14 - A place we are to save our children from. Jesus was a Jew He believed & said Ye serpents, ye
3. generation of vipers, how can ye escape the damnation of hell? Mt 23:33. & again: into hell, into the fire that never shall be quenched Mk 9:43 Yes friend, believe God when He says that hell is a real place.
Nothing false about what God says (Christian views), if you think there is please show us what was false in anything I wrote. I taught you that belief =faith and that Christian faith is certainly not blind belief it stands on PROVEN FACTS, Gods own words. (next)
<--- Until you can make an argument from a standpoint that is older than Christianity, then you will not "win" this. There is no winning. You simply have to accept that your religion is right in your faith, but others are equally valid as THEIR faith.
1. I have done. The argument stands on the fact that God ordained these things before He created this universe. According as he hath chosen us (Christians) in him (Jesus) before the foundation of the world, that we should be holy and without blame before him in love
This has nothing to do with winning, it is a no contest , it is simply the fact of Gods integrity He can not sin nor be unjust. If you like we could say God won before any contest started He can not lose. (next:)
You're so horribly "under the influence" of blind faith, that you can't see how bad your statements make you look. You're blindly asserting that every religion before Christians, including the Jewish faith which is 90% the origin of Christian belief, is wrong. You have nothing to base this on but what PEOPLE have said. Even then, all the things that Christianity blindly believes true in the OT, the Jews will shrug and say "It's a story, not literal". God is not perfection. God is interpretation
This has become my favorite song of all time. I always heard as a kid about Aunt Ola Belle and Uncle Bud...from my Mom's Reed family reunions at Uncle Howard's house in Cecil County. I knew she was famous in circles and such. I've always loved and wanted to learn banjo and blugrass music, even as a kid. Has I only really known...I'll have to ask Mom a lot more questions... This is the most profound song I've ever heard.
Thirty-five years ago, I had the honor and pleasure of broadcasting Ola Belle, Bud and David Reed every Saturday morning on WASA-AM in Havre de Grace, MD. They were very gentle and special people. My fondest memory of Ola Belle is visiting her at home, where we snapped green beans from her garden as we talked.
what a beautiful song! it's so simple and so deep all at the same time! thank you for posting the lyrics, also! be blessed! :)
