I like how there's a series of bizarre monsters in the middle. Practically all of which are references to anime or games---there's an Aura Battler Dunbine monster, as well as a D&D beholder with arms (holding the swastika flag).
@oko379 yes it is what you think it is. Its a Nazi Swastika flag. The thing is there isnt any taboo in japan to depreciate it as an enemy or something negative as what is been shown here.
@JimmyCougar Lol, it does. I can't argue with that. I've seen anime that were based off adult games... but had the adult parts taken out (Air and Kanon)
Since no one brought the question up and machine translations are always difficult to slog through: who did the music? It sounds like See-Saw but I can't be sure it's just not the style of the song throwing me off.
@watafug Im the one thats not sure why r u directing this to me. I nv even hinted that japan is in any way anti-semetic. Im just pointing out that Japan have no problem using the NAZI symbol as a negative demonstration of ideas, eg. an evil enemy.
I dont agree with u, censorship is impt to some extent. U dont wnt to allow people promoting n aiming to form back the glorious NAZI Germany in Germany n places like Poland. Someday maybe, but not today not now. Where n when the line is thats Impt.
@watafug alright then, so the topic changed. ma... so be it.
ok now. I have no idea what are you trying to implied of my statement. let me just say that I think censorship is impt, the question is where to draw the line. Extremist ideas are banned for reasons in short: Propaganda is very powerful. Some things for the good of public and community are needed to be censored. Again the problem is where is the line.
In this game, in Japan, Nazi is not it as long as they are not promoting it
However when the only amount of information that released to the public is one sided then that creates a bias onto the entire community.
I'm not saying that I support any extremist but I think that if someone does not allow another person to see something, like a movie or something that infringes on 2 peoples rights.
1. The person who made it, because they cannot express themselves without being repressed.
2. The person who would have seen it, because it should be THEIR choice.
@watafug In the end who and what decide what is one sided? Thats the line. If a movie was made to glorified the "good" deeds of Nazis and to bring the world to their ideas, will it not be censored? Rights are not born with. They are created and given, written by blood of other faceless people
sometimes what 1 million people see as bullshit but then only 1 person dont and accept it is dreadful enuf to warrant censorship. What and where the line is is the point.
Just to say, VampireCrazyness is right. The games (this is a fanwork of it) have mostly girls with power. Well, the most notable characters are various females. There are males, but not worth noting for the most part.
In relevance to the story, most of the living males are not human, such as Genji and Unzan. Only a very small percentage that are relevant to the story are human in anyway, but have no relevance to in game events.
Of course there's female humans that are vital to the story. I was talking about the male humans that have little to do with in game events. Events not in game are a different story.
Touhou does have a wiki, so you can search for males and get answers.
Zun has said there are other males in Gensokyo, but they don't use danmaku like the girls, so that probably means they're all physical fighters or whatever.
I agree the swastica is probably meant to be a religious symbol in this video, but the white dot and red background probably doesn't help it's case (unless that's part of the religion too, I'm not sure my self). Btw isn't the religious version suppose to be not diagonal (like in Japan), or is common for it to be so in other cultures?
Even though I am replying to you, everyone who keeps on talking about swastikas is also the audience.
The swastika was a religious symbol LONG before the nazis ever used it. It is prominent in quite a few east asian religions if I recall correctly, and one of those is Shinto: the native religion of Japan.
It was even used by the Greeks a long time ago as well.
Look it up on wikipedia, or if you don't trust it, google the origins of the swastika or something like that.
Goddamn it. Damn near ANY time a swastica is outside the Western World, it's a Buddhist/Hindu symbol (very archaic in origin, traced back to Sanskrit). It's a religious thing, like a cross. Unless there's outright mention of nazis, there's NOT any Nazis.
That's great. IT'S A MONSTER WITH A TINY NAZI FLAG.
Shouldn't everybody stop to think why in the world there would be a monster with a tiny Nazi flag in a Touhou game and simply assume the more logical "IT BE SUM SORT OF BUDDHIST MONSTER SYMBOLISM THING" and run with it?
As for the Nazi thing, I agree with what you say. History classes should cover this because not knowing this will only lead to prejudice and war, which I personally fear would happen one day. Makes me very thankful that I had one of those "radical" type of history teachers growing up.

Actually it may meant to be a Nazi symbol.
Note that The common manji used was nv turn sideway and is in no association with red flag and white circle.
Still no matter. It belongs to a MONSTER carrying it. Which is a enemy that you had to kill. Think of it, you get to destroy it.
Still this game was made in japan for japanese. Japan doesnt have that wide spread total censorship on it unlike many in europe.
To them its not a problem depreciating it as enemy or something bad.
Christeron 2 years ago 3
@Christeron
Not sure what you're trying to imply but lets just state this real quick.
Japan was not and is not anti-semetic
Censorship diminishes peoples rights to express themselves, even if it's something nobody wants to see or hear, it's their right, their choice.
watafug 1 year ago

@Christeron
Yes but you have to recognize that censorship, when taken to far is clearly oppression. Especially when there are some biases involved.
Take the both dictatorships in WWII
Both Hitler and Stalin banned anything that was against or not specifically promoting their views.
What I'm saying is that if someone doesn't like looking at something it's their choice to look or not.
The same idea with banned books, it restricts people from saying what they want.
watafug 1 year ago
@watafug alright then, so the topic changed. ma... so be it.

Christeron 1 year ago
@Christeron
But that's what i'm saying.
The nazi's already made such a movie pre-WW2 and they destroyed any that had any conflicting views.
That's what I mean by one sided censorship.
In the end what is a "Right"?
I believe if you have the physical capability to do something then that's your right.
If you don't then you better find a way to earn it.
Even if it is not just in anyone's opinion, saying someone has no "Right" to do something makes me just want to defy them to prove a point.
