Kizomba was developed from zouk , we took the zouk and introduced other istruments,mix it with Semba music and that created Kizomba. thats all so Zouk is west indies and Kizomba is Angolan

3) Tottaly agree. Old School Kizomba was all about "writting on the floor", weather there was a X influence with Cuban dance ( yes if you watch Old Cuban style, you will recognize it, plus don't forget Cubans were in Angola) or Tango, that's how many social dances are born. The younger generation, not trying to patronize, didn't grow up watching this.

They grew up doing Tarraxinha mainly.

More importantly, a dance performance is not just like club dancing. Petchu lived the history.

When we dance kizomba, we don't do all those tricks. This couple knows how to dance, but this is not kizomba as Africans do it.

I totally disagree. 1) Kwenda is Cape Verdian and therefore an African. Granted he does agree that his style is a very personal style and has no doubt other influences (he loves Argentinian Tango for example). 2) Watch the videos of Tomás Keita (Guinea) and the 2009 winers of the International Kizomba contest (couple from Angola). They do loads of "tricks".

But the winners of the international competition are dancing Semba, thid dude is dancing somethin else and it ait kizomba either. More like salsa, wen u dance kizomba or semba ur body aint supposed 2 b as hard as his body or hers look!! but its a matter of opinion i respect urs, but this aint kizomba or semba...

I also respect your oppinion and I am certainly not an expert (IrisDeBrito is an expert though) on the subject, I just love Kizomba/Semba. But I have to say that we can see many differences in style between the teachers. Someone like Bandeira is very different from Petchu and they are both from Angola. However, I still think they dance Kizomba or Semba, but with their own style, just like Kwenda. Plus, they are all amazing in their own way.

3) Watch some older Angolans dancing...sometimes they do amazing stuff. A lot that is taught these days in the dancing schools was born spontaneously in Angola many years ago. Ask people like Petchù (Angola) probably the first to teach semba and kizomba in Portugal. Off course it is only natural that there are external influences and different people start to create their own interpretations, like Kwenda. Finally, you have to remember this was an exhibition.
