I think Windows Mobile is shyte but this is a step in the right direction. I reckone when Windows 7 comes out it will be as good as android and the iPhone. I just find it sad that they didn't really care to make it good at all until it had competition. Just showing how much Microsoft really cares about its customers satisfaction. Before WinMo was only selling cause there was no real competition with other smartphone OSes.
You're a victim of Microsoft's perpetuation of pathetic excuses. Microsoft ALWAYS blame it on the hardware manufacturer when their system crash. But top range HTC devices running on 600+ Mhz CPU with 200+mb of Ram are also crashing ALL THE TIME. And how come a typical Nokia N series running on only 333 mhz cpu with 120+ mb ram can render the same web page perfectly everytime??
Your talking to quick, I hope you have an HTC or just a phone that runs Microsoft.
Because either I have very good luck with Microsoft cellphone software, or your talking out your ass and listen to a couple of kid comments. That have no idea, Microsoft has its pros and cons, but what phone doesnt.
Don't know why but windows mobile doesn't impress me at all. it allways feels laggy and slow. I like the potential and functionality through many available apps, but I'd choose my Blackberry over it any day.And iPhone feels kinda like bling so it's also not something I'd want.I think the most interesting mobile OS will be Palm's Webos, and seeing where Symbian goes.. it does show potential too, and Symbian powered Nokia phones seem like the only alternative for me... Nice progress for win though
I agree. I believe its due to a bloated O/S filled with legacy coding. I mean the core of WM is quite old and I don't think Microsoft has worked on it. Also Microsoft don't make phones. Hence they set minimum specs. Hence out of 100 phones, there's bound to be lag heavy phones. I also agree S60 Touch has potential. Its responsive and fast. But the touch element seems half baked. Some things that are basic in touchscreen interface is implemented like a keypad based device. But good potential.
1) Because WM follows a mouse like structure. Point and click. So you need to be more precise.
2) Because resistive is better in all weather. Even when wearing gloves.
3) Because Microfost is going for gesture heavy. Not multi touch but gesture heavy as per their roadmap. Think Minority report.
4) Capacitive is popular just because of IPhone. WM users like their stylus because 'typing' with a stylus is much faster. Especially if you know how to use Block Recognizer.
But I keep hearing WinMo won't work on capacitivie screens. I'm wondering if it's the way it's coded or something. Also, I have yet to encounter such cold weather where my iPod touch doesn't recognize input. It does get less sensitive, but it's still better than resistive touch screens in my experience. Typing with stylus generally isn't faster which is why reviewers crave QUERTY keyboards.
It is coded as such. Again. WM was written with the mentality of "miniature version of Windows desktop" (after all the first version came out in I believe 2000). It replaces a mouse with a stylus which works better with resistive. For example, input format is more diverse with WM. You have keyboard, block recognizer, transcriber, letter recognizer. With resistive it would be limited. That's not to say it won't work with capacitive. But works better with resistive.
Because WinMo apps include parts assuming you can use a stylus for accuracy. Stylus does not work on a capacitative screen - try it, nothing happens. So, you can have a driver for a cap screen on WinMo, that is technically easy, but the result still will not work well with the thousands of apps that run on WinMo and assume you can use a stylus.
True. But one very important thing to note. The above did not run on Touch Flo.. Which might indicate HTC hasn't had time to play around with the code yet which means possibly WYSIWYG. Well Windows Media hasn't been strong in multimedia playback. Probably because its modelled from the desktop version. May I recommend Core Player as an alternative? It's excellent. Built in divx, xvid support..

Why doesn't WinMo work on capacitive touch screens?
The browser looks like a joke.

Typing with a stylus is generally way faster than with your fingers if you're talking about virtual onscreen keyboards.
.
Block Recognizer is even faster. It's basically faster than handwriting speed when you get used to it.
I think it's a lot more practical than hardware slide out keyboards.
