I have to agree Direct TV SUCKS... My father in law just signed up for a package with a two year contract. The Package was advertised in a AAA magazine. It clearly states free 4 upgrades: HD DVR and three HD receivers. It was installed today and when the service guy was asked about the DVR he said it was not included in the package...Several calls have only frustrated us further-they saying they can add a DVR with extra fees. Deceptive advertising-down right lie.....
I have been involved in a dispute with DirectTV. They lost the rights to TWO major networks (NBC and CW) in my area with no end in sight. I am a new customer, and want out of my contract. They threaten to send it to collections if you don't pay, and they point to their unconscionable ONE-SIDED customer service agreement.
I wrote the the number 2 man in the company, and even then, the call I got from some escalation team was FUTILE.

This man speaks the truth. I'm sticking with Comcast or Verizon, because they have better services and the packages are affordable. Satellite? I don't give a fuck. Some channels, like sports channels can be a problem for fans cause they can be in the higher packages plus incliment weather interrupts signals, not worth the time and money. DirectTV gives lower service to zip codes that are in poor areas. IF you live in a wealthy neighborhood, you get better service, IF you live in a middle class or poor area, you get poorer service. You wouldnt know the difference unless you happen to come across a new DTV employee that tells you the truth. I used to live in a poor part of town, and now I live in a much better area. DRTV service depends on where you live. They over charge poor people.

I know folks in the CRG(customer retention group)and movers connection group in LA and you should not have been charged an ECF(early cancellation fee)for the technician NLOS(no line of sight)issue. The ECF should have most definitely been waived for this reason. Most of the time they want to get a second opinion, but it's very strange you're saying you were charged an ECF for this issue. You sure it wasnt an NRF(non-returned equipment) fee? I don't know the specifics, but just curious.
Ohhhhhh no. It was a cancellation Fee according to upper accounting management who's phone number doesn't "exist" DTV sent me the boxes and everything I needed to pack up the equipment and I sent it back signature required and I have proof that they got everything. All the reps that I spoke to when I saw the charge told me straight out it was a cancellation fee cause I broke the contract that I didn't even agree to or sign. @matrix3000k When you get Directv Service, you agree to a 2 year contract and before the tech leaves your house they even inform you that it's a 2 year contract. When you cancel your contract early, you are agreeing to allow Directv to charge your Credit card on file the ETF fees. It's under the terms and conditions of the contract.
Ive always had preety good luck with Direct TVs Customer service, but Im really getting pissed because their advertisment is patheticlly excessive. I spend most of my time changing channels because when they break for advertisment, which is often, its about 5 or 6 advertisements before you get back to what your trying to watch. I understand the need for some advertisment, but this is getting ridiculous........

Here's the thing. If the reason for cancellation is due to No Line of Sight, then the early cancellation fee would be invalid. It is by common sense that customer cannot continue his service if the area where he is at cannot get any signal. In this case, the cancellation fee should have been credited back to the customer. My question is, after posting this video here on youtube, has the customer made any update if the cancellation fee was ever cancelled or the charge on his card ever refunded?
The answer to your questions is NO. They never refunded me back at all. I tried and tried. I had to dispute the charge with my bank and now they are sending me collection notices. They are scum bags and take peoples money even though their crap doesn't work where they live. I work hard for my money and I will NOT pay for something that isn't going to work. Their customer service is great. When me and my family requested to get local channels the customer rep said we had to upgrade to a hd reciever. They didnt charge for the upgrade and the didnt charge for the installation it was. Ive been a proud direct tv customer for 12 years.
Well I work @ dish and what I could say about this video is if there is NLOS which stands for "no line of sight" in your new home and you are under contract, it can be waive since we are unable to provide the service for you. That's a low blow by direct tv still charging it to you..
That was the techs fault. He was supposed to make sure he could get a signal before putting the dish up. If the tech did not activate any recievers on the new account then Directv is wrong. This past summer I had a few customer that needed to cancel because trees grew and blocked the existing dish. These were existing customers. We had their account noted and Directv cancelled with no problem. They do want a tech to accurately verify though before cancelling.

We just switched from Comcast to DirectTV and believe me...it's been HELL! They can not get their DVR unit to work correctly after 4 techs came to our house. We told them we wanted to cancel and they said..well that will be $400. My wife called me on another line and told me situation so I called our credit card company and reported our card stolen so the little bastards couldn't zing us for $400. They are CROOKS!

Look them up on the BBB website and you will see all the complaints about how terrible their customer service is. I just did a search for "direct tv sucks" and there are 220 vids on YouTube, whereas "dish network sucks" only got 32 YouTube vids. I had Dish Network 12 years ago and loved it and finally went back to it recently after 10 years of crappy cable. With Dish Network, I get 200 high def channels for $50/month for 3 TV's. On cable, we were paying $60 for 60 standard def channels. Just one guy's experience. Dish Network is the best compared with cable, DirecTV.
Again this video is not to compare which provider provides a better service or the quality of service. This video is more about the customer service aspect than anything else.
I hear you. I'm just saying that DN is better than DTV, in my opinion. If it were just me, I wouldn't need cable or the satellite co's because I can get what TV I want off of Netflix, Hulu, and the ABC, NBC. CBS websites. But my wife watches a ton of TV, so we need all these channels.

DirecTV reserves the right take any outstanding balance off of the card on file. This is notated within the service agreement that is given to you once installation of your services is done by the technician. If you don't agree with these terms, too bad. You should have read that agreement before giving them authorization to install their leased equipment in your home.

If I didn't pay my bill for two years, wouldn't you be after me for the money owed for years or however long it took to collect (and shut me off)? You should not be penalizing customers for using what you prefer we use, i.e. autopay and online statements.

Didn't notice these charges as we trusted your company would not take advantage and adhere to the original order, which would have only been the "Premier Package".
Come to find out, your company has been charging me for NFL ticket since. My wife, Sue, just got off the phone with CS and they refunded back this years 2 month charges but as for the 2 years past, they told me you were the one authorized to sign off on that refund.
We do not watch football, never order football, never authorized $300 a year for a package we never ordered.
My wife and I joined Direct TV in 2007. their Marketing for New Customers, at the time, was the "$69.99 for 4 months you will receive what we wanted to have, the Premier Package (savings of $99.00 per month), however with this was YOUR ADDITION of NASCAR Package and NFL Package for free!" Made sense to take advantage of this introductory offer and save. We put our bill on autopay and your "go green" online statements.
check your customer agreement that came with your first bill. it states that directv can chg your card for monies owed. if you are unhappy that the movers connection couldnt do the install due to los issue. you can dispute the fee to the dispute address on the back of your bill. just a little fyi

As far as TV service with them they are ok. But if you are looking for customer service and value then I suggest you stay away from them. Be careful what you sign. If they tell you that will give you x y and z make sure you have that in writing from them. They will screw you over on billing. Good Luck!

I also recently had a bad experience with Direct TV. When initially signing up for the service I paid a $300 deposit on the equipment to be returned to me when my contract was up, regardless of weather I agreed to a new contract or cancelled my service. Well, I decided to give Dish Network a try so I called up Direct TV to cancel my service and they said they refuse to return my Deposit. I sent a fairly nasty letter to the Office of the President of Direct TV and I'll also be contacting the BBB.

Don't know what you're talking about, people I talk to on customer care are pretty chill people. They quickly schedule repair shit on the phone without any BS questions or talk. Out of the like, what, 10 years we've been with them, we've only had to call for repairs about 2-3 times.

Dude sucks it happened to you, but you should learn some reading comprehension. look at that agreement you signed. it says explicitly that if you have an early cancellation fee, they can and will use any cards on file to recover those charges. you SIGNED that paperwork, making it legally binding, so in a court of law, you fucked yourself.

Direct TV is truly full of crap. Ordered it in January, did the rebate online&printed it out. Today I check my bank acct and see they've over charged me and not honored the rebate which conveniently doesn't kick in til 3 months later. Call DTV, they say theres no record of the rebate, I'm too late to do it again( 2wks) and the free trial of starz/showtime had ended. I was also hung up on 2x's and still waiting for that $100 visa giftcard which supposedly should come in mid May.

I have to agree Direct TV SUCKS... My father in law just signed up for a package with a two year contract. The Package was advertised in a AAA magazine. It clearly states free 4 upgrades: HD DVR and three HD receivers. It was installed today and when the service guy was asked about the DVR he said it was not included in the package...Several calls have only frustrated us further-they saying they can add a DVR with extra fees. I have been involved in a dispute with DirectTV. They lost the rights to TWO major networks (NBC and CW) in my area with no end in sight. I am a new customer, and want out of my contract. They threaten to send it to collections if you don't pay, and they point to their unconscionable ONE-SIDED customer service agreement.
I wrote the the number 2 man in the company, and even then, the call I got from some escalation team was FUTILE.

This man speaks the truth. I'm sticking with Comcast or Verizon, because they have better services and the packages are affordable. Satellite? I don't give a fuck. Some channels, like sports channels can be a problem for fans cause they can be in the higher packages plus incliment weather interrupts signals, not worth the time and money. I also read articles of people getting ripped off from satellite services and I will NEVER stoop to get satellite services. Thanks for the advice, man.

DirectTV gives lower service to zip codes that are in poor areas. IF you live in a wealthy neighborhood, you get better service, IF you live in a middle class or poor area, you get poorer service. You wouldnt know the difference unless you happen to come across a new DTV employee that tells you the truth. I used to live in a poor part of town, and now I live in a much better area. DRTV service depends on where you live. They over charge poor people.

I know folks in the CRG(customer retention group)and movers connection group in LA and you should not have been charged an ECF(early cancellation fee)for the technician NLOS(no line of sight)issue. The ECF should have most definitely been waived for this reason. Most of the time they want to get a second opinion, but it's very strange you're saying you were charged an ECF for this issue. You sure it wasnt an NRF(non-returned equipment) fee? I don't know the specifics, but just curious.

It was a cancellation Fee according to upper accounting management who's phone number doesn't "exist" DTV sent me the boxes and everything I needed to pack up the equipment and I sent it back signature required and I have proof that they got everything. All the reps that I spoke to when I saw the charge told me straight out it was a cancellation fee cause I broke the contract that I didn't even agree to or sign. The company you work for is totally Unethical!

@matrix3000k When you get Directv Service, you agree to a 2 year contract and before the tech leaves your house they even inform you that it's a 2 year contract. When you cancel your contract early, you are agreeing to allow Directv to charge your Credit card on file the ETF fees. It's under the terms and conditions of the contract.

Ive always had preety good luck with Direct TVs Customer service, but Im really getting pissed because their advertisment is patheticlly excessive. I spend most of my time changing channels because when they break for advertisment, which is often, its about 5 or 6 advertisements before you get back to what your trying to watch. I understand the need for some advertisment, but this is getting ridiculous........

Turns out this morning the channels we were watching endlessly for almost 1 week was just permanent.
I cant wait to go back with Comcast, we were better off with them. ~ When there was nothing good on TV to watch, OnDemand was the next place to go to watch our favorite anime and animated series.

Here's the thing. If the reason for cancellation is due to No Line of Sight, then the early cancellation fee would be invalid. It is by common sense that customer cannot continue his service if the area where he is at cannot get any signal. In this case, the cancellation fee should have been credited back to the customer. My question is, after posting this video here on youtube, has the customer made any update if the cancellation fee was ever cancelled or the charge on his card ever refunded?

Dude, they just came to install their service today and I threw them out of my house before they could even start installation. They LIED. They said I could get HD in each room, etc. Turns out I need a to buy a second HD box for that $99 for the second box plus another $99 for the "multi room" service. Also, the "on demand" comes thru the internet. I said "Get the fuck out of my house. I'm canceling the order". After the tech guy left they called me to try to change my mind. SHADY ass company!!!

You can get Fox free on hulu.com Long story short-negotiations fell short 160,000 homes are losing out because fox wants to increase what we pay by 600% and direct tv wants to be a snob with it's profit margins. Their customer service is great. When me and my family requested to get local channels the customer rep said we had to upgrade to a hd reciever. They didnt charge for the upgrade and the didnt charge for the installation it was. Ive been a proud direct tv customer for 12 years.

That was the techs fault. He was supposed to make sure he could get a signal before putting the dish up. If the tech did not activate any recievers on the new account then Directv is wrong. This past summer I had a few customer that needed to cancel because trees grew and blocked the existing dish. These were existing customers. We had their account noted and Directv cancelled with no problem. They do want a tech to accurately verify though before cancelling.

We just switched from Comcast to DirectTV and believe me...it's been HELL! They can not get their DVR unit to work correctly after 4 techs came to our house. We told them we wanted to cancel and they said..well that will be $400. I just did a search for "direct tv sucks" and there are 220 vids on YouTube, whereas "dish network sucks" only got 32 YouTube vids. I had Dish Network 12 years ago and loved it and finally went back to it recently after 10 years of crappy cable. With Dish Network, I get 200 high def channels for $50/month for 3 TV's. On cable, we were paying $60 for 60 standard def channels. Just one guy's experience. Dish Network is the best compared with cable, DirecTV.

DirecTV reserves the right take any outstanding balance off of the card on file. This is notated within the service agreement that is given to you once installation of your services is done by the technician. If you don't agree with these terms, too bad. You should have read that agreement before giving them authorization to install their leased equipment in your home.

Sorry you have had a poor experience with direct tv. I have had nothing but great service with them. Ive never had any of those fees that you said and have been with them since 1998, but still sucks that it has happened to people.

It is our responsibility to pay you on time, so we use your auto pay. It is your responsibility to only make charges that I incur. These CHARGES WERE NEVER AUTHORIZED! Auto renewal doesn't apply in this case, as I never ORDERED it in the first place! It was part of a marketing "new customer" offer. We never watched or used! Didn't notice these charges as we trusted your company would not take advantage and adhere to the original order, which would have only been the "Premier Package".

Come to find out, your company has been charging me for NFL ticket since. My wife, Sue, just got off the phone with CS and they refunded back this years 2 month charges but as for the 2 years past, they told me you were the one authorized to sign off on that refund.
We do not watch football, never order football, never authorized $300 a year for a package we never ordered.

Made sense to take advantage of this introductory offer and save. We put our bill on autopay and your "go green" online statements.

check your customer agreement that came with your first bill. it states that directv can chg your card for monies owed. if you are unhappy that the movers connection couldnt do the install due to los issue. you can dispute the fee to the dispute address on the back of your bill. just a little fyi

As far as TV service with them they are ok. But if you are looking for customer service and value then I suggest you stay away from them. Be careful what you sign. If they tell you that will give you x y and z make sure you have that in writing from them. They will screw you over on billing. Good Luck!

I also recently had a bad experience with Direct TV. When initially signing up for the service I paid a $300 deposit on the equipment to be returned to me when my contract was up, regardless of weather I agreed to a new contract or cancelled my service. Well, I decided to give Dish Network a try so I called up Direct TV to cancel my service and they said they refuse to return my Deposit. I sent a fairly nasty letter to the Office of the President of Direct TV and I'll also be contacting the BBB.

DirecTv really does suck! I lost my local stations, and I lose the whole dish any time it rains, snows, or even gets cloudy! Also any time some is wrong with their equipment or signal...direcTv will automatically charge you $49.95 just to look at it! Save yourself money and a headache and stay with cable!!!

Don't know what you're talking about, people I talk to on customer care are pretty chill people. They quickly schedule repair shit on the phone without any BS questions or talk. Out of the like, what, 10 years we've been with them, we've only had to call for repairs about 2-3 times.

Direct TV is truly full of crap. Ordered it in January, did the rebate online&printed it out. Today I check my bank acct and see they've over charged me and not honored the rebate which conveniently doesn't kick in til 3 months later. Call DTV, they say theres no record of the rebate, I'm too late to do it again( 2wks) and the free trial of starz/showtime had ended. I was also hung up on 2x's and still waiting for that $100 visa giftcard which supposedly should come in mid May.
