I believe there is sufficient photographic evidence to imply there was, and still is life on Mars i.e. large organisms such as trees. And even large artifacts such as pyramidal and rectilinear structures indicating some previous habitation, or civilisation.
But I've seen no data to indicate Venus is anything other than a hot acidic wasteland. Who knows, maybe there are structures on Venus too?
Although his writing style is a little old fashioned, these reports remind me a little of CS Lewis's space trilogy. The first two novels are about the inhabitants of Venus and Mars and the third is about Earth: That Hideous Strength!
