@matak99 The recording originally appeared on Two Sides of Leonard Nimoy album on the Dot label. One side had stuff like "Spock Thoughts" and the other was pure Leonard. :) Thoroughly enjoyable album, even as rough as this song is, it has its charm. LOL! I love the guy...
Ah! An off-handed remark in the intro solved the mystery of this clip's origin! It's "Malibu U." a 1967 summer replacement series on ABC. Ricky Nelson is seen at the intro as the "Dean" of Malibu U., and the theme was composed by the Addrisi Brothers. This episode aired July 28, 1967, and also featured to song stylings of Mrs Miller! A bad music perfecta! And one of those dancers may have been Erin Grey, later of "Buck Rogers!"
For everyone who says its bad...i think its supposed to be..i mean who could actually think this was seriously meant to be a good song? Its like a parody, sort of.
I never knew this song existed , it must be quite some time , as Nimoy was at his height of popularity - Star Trek . When Lord Of the Rings was a hit , I bought a set of J.RR. Tolken 's book, one of the books , was The Hobbit , that was in 2006. This is a real surprise. Malaysian Insider
The girl with the short brown hair at the beginning of this video is a very young Erin Gray (who would later go on to play Col. Wilma Deering in the 1979-1980 Buck Rogers in the 25th Century TV series.
I wonder why this was filmed of a Sony Trinitron colour TV set with a video camera. Wouldn't it have been easier to connect the computer directly to the VTR?
This was clearly filmed off a TV-set with a CCD based video camera. CCDs were invented in the mid 1970s and only became availiable to the general public in the mid 1980s. And then everybody who had a video camera also had a VCR or at least a VTR. This is clearly a fake. Someone played it off tape on his TV and filmed it off again.
Seeing this in black-and-white makes it even more surreal----Nimoy's face upside down right in the camera has a demonic "Twilight-Zonish" look. Rod Serling would have been....well, not proud, but he would have chuckled.
You realise what he said was "The Elf kings halls", right? It's just a little harder to understand because it's longer, I don't think they could have gotten away with putting something such as what you said in a 1960s song about classic literature
This is the single greatest thing i have ever seen or heard. Bar nothing! I believe he released 5 albums dont suppose anybody knows where i can aquire any of them?
Wow.... I'm speechless. And confused. Why is Leonard Nimoy singing about Bilbo Baggins and why do the dancers have pointy ears? Why aren't music videos like this any more, I would watch a lot more MTV if they were.
Michelle66, That is indeed Erin Gray as recently confirmed to me (and others) by Erin. The TV program was Malibu U starring Ricky Nelson (Ozzie & Harriet). RIcky was a singing sensation at that time.
This (great?) song has been stuck in my head for almost a week now. :)
I found a page on the MaidenWine site (look under 'Catalog') that gives a little more info on the video as well the program it was shown on.... pretty interesting stuff.

it did, however, cut of the surrounding parts of the image.
