So, for all of you: Goalkeeper Harry Gregg than Pat Crerand (Midfielder) Nobby Stiles (defensive midfielder) Johnny Carey (midfielder) Bobby Charlton (midfielder, striker) Dennis Viollet (striker) Steve Coppell (winger) Charlie Mitten (winger) please tell whom Mitten gives the pass to. (maybe Johnny Berry?) Denis Law (striker) George Best (winger, greatest player of all time!)
I remember when this advert came out and Giggs was pretty new on the scene, as kid I was thinking it a bit silly putting this Giggs guy in a Greatest Ever Man United team when he's only about 19 and played a couple of seasons. Then, years later, he turns out to be the greatest left sided midfielder ever, breaks the appearances total and generally remains quality. Reebok knew what they were doing! Anyone who wouldn't put Giggs in a greatest Man United eleven would be crazy!
Have Reebaok ever heard of the greatest Man Utd player ever, Duncan Edwards. I saw him play and will never forget what a total footballer he was. He would have been up there with Pele and Cruyff.
@tonywilk57 Like someone else has already said, Reebok did not include any of the players that died as a result of the Munich air disaster in the commercial out of respect for them.
i loved this ad, i'm chilean and i'm fan of manchester united. since 99 when the reds wins the champions league, but... i can identify this players in this ad... giggs, charlton, law, best, who is the others? the keeper? the number 8? the player who hit the ball with his head? and the others?
@ nachoz10 - the keeper is harry gregg, a survivor of munich. the no. 8 is steve coppell who was united's right winger in the 70's. other players mentioned were johnny carey, he was united's captain after the war. dennis violet was a forward in the early 50's and one of united's all time goal scorers. nobby stiles was united's midfield terrior in the 60's and also with charlton won the world cup in 1966. paddy crerand was another player from the 60's. charlie mitton played in the 1950's i think.
@davidsan01 Charlie Mitten was the left-winger in Busby's 1st great Utd. side. Mitten played for Utd. fr. '36-'50 & consequently lost a massive chunk of his football career to WWII. Mitten in probably most famous for being banned for life fr. playing for England because he joined Bogota club Santa Fe of the "outlaw" Colombian lge. along w/England's star centre-half Neil Franklin in '50.
@davidsan01 "Paddy" Crerand was a Scottish international who played for Utd. fr. '63--'72. Crerand was a hard-nosed DM who also had some attacking skills as well IMO.
In Manchester wearing Nike boots, for that reason (and also for the fact he'd only been at United for about a year when this advert was filmed) he wasn't included in this advert for Reebok.
i prefer the one with mohamed ali and his daughter it was better done, can't remember what they were shilling for but it's quality check it. i'm sure if they made this now they'd have to put cantona in and technically it'd probably look perfect.
Classic ad. I remember I saw 'the making of' this advert.. they polled a number of older Man Utd fans to pick the team and used archive footage, body doubles and cgi to patch the clips together. AFAICR it was filmed at Burnden Park.
those were too recent at the time, I think the whole purpose was to put GIGGS with really 'classic' old players like Best, Coppell, Law.. I'd never heard of Violet before seeing this advert..?!

@Bossman525 do you remember the show called how do they do that? presented by Eamonn holmes, I swear they acatually showed how they did this advert.
It's crazy to think how big Giggs would've been if Becks never came along.
