  • Holy shit.....

  • fuckin' genius!

  • Very interesting style. Not the usual jazz phrasing and very interesting.

  • Lol he looks like bill murray

  • wowwww

  • @tpstrat14

You're just revealing your OWN lack of rythm-please be quiet. Go back to your Star Wars movie!

  • @tpstrat14

You're just revealing your OWN lack of rythm-please be quiet. Go back to your Star Wars movie!

  • @tpstrat14

Really brah? what you think that you got over any trombone player that makes you all high and mighty?

  • @bengeoffrey6 nothing... i was just saying this guy has no rhythmic integrity

  • I get such performance anxiety. I don't know how people do it.

  • SHIT

  • Was he not warmed up? intonation issues, weaker tone than expected in higher notes and lower notes, though still a beautiful vibrato and tone in the middle register.

  • @ToulBoi he was playing with multiphonics

  • YEAH !

  • Very cool and amazing!

  • very cool!

  • praise the lord...this is so good

  • lol @ 3:00

  • beautiful

  • WOW!

  • brass, horn, electric bass, guitar and vocal sounds. Mind blowing trombonist, and the awesomest instrument, trombone!

  • What's the fuck is that? it's that a distortion system?

  • @jeyckson multiphonics

  • @jeyckson Multiphonics. =D

  • what note exactly is he singing to get that effect @ 1:05 ?

  • @strezzedoutz I believe it is the same note hes playing

  • @manguy47 It wouldnt have that effect if it was the same note, too much wavering. Maybe and octave up? but even then...

  • @strezzedoutz I believe that he is doing what is called double buzzing. Double buzzing is not the same as double tonging obviously. It is usually achieved at lower levels easier and is necessary for some of the lowest notes

  • @deeppurplehaze95

    Really?

I heard a few things about that but it seemed to me that double buzzing was more of a problem that a technique...

I'm getting annoyed on how I am ending subjects with an ellipsis so I made a new sentence :P .

  • @strezzedoutz well in order for it to sound perfect I think your voice would need to be in perfect tune with the note played so maybe hes singing the note off-tune just a little for the effect...

  • This is really cool stuff...but it's not exactly jazz is it?

  • So cool

    3:00 :D

  • I decided to watch this video again after not watching it for a while. This guy still slays me.

  • nice

  • I'm Italian and I believe that he's a very great trombonist.

  • I have play with him today.

  • He has such an amazing sound, it's insane...

  • IMPRESSIVE!!!

  • unbeliveable

  • I think multiphonics would have been easier in that ending Bb than double buzzing. I'd love to keep one going for that long, though.

  • actually I think it's not a real peace, it sounds more like a variation or impro over the ack, but I'll ask him, when I see him next time!

  • no you missunderstood me

i know the ack värmeland du sköna

i think of the peace of music between ack .. and smoke on the water

  • can you tell me what song he plays before the "smoke on the water" theme?

  • it's a swedish folk-song, he told me the name of it ones, but I forgot it, so I can only tell you this!

  • Comment removed

  • The song is Le Grange by ZZ Top

  • thx dude

  • n its not

  • No it isn't necessarily Le Grange....It is just a basic blues pattern with the multiphonics!!

Every time I hear Nils I either want to become a better player or just quit!! He is so damn good!!....I think I will go practice now!!

  • Saw and heard this improvisation several times played live by Nils. It starts with an old swedish folksong, continues with a blues pattern is from "Smoke on the Water" and ends with that swedish song again.

  • @Rainersacht

its really not a blues pattern at all, its just sort of jamming out on the I chord

  • Bombastic! Brå !

  • Espectacular!!!

  • AMAZING.

  • Don't you just love to hate him, makes it all look so simple.

    Oh hum. ;-)

  • Just on this video I worship Nils Landgren. Inspirational. He shows you what a sliphorn was made to do,... though it took a few centuries for folks to finally figure it out.

  • What is that tune he opens it with?

  • It's a traditional Swedish folksong. Ack Värmeland du sköna.

  • Also known as "Dear Old Stockholm" in The Duke's edition of the tune.

  • This makes me wish that I could play multiphonics at any other time my lips aren't actually falling apart.

  • Man tror det är bra, så bli r det fantastiskt! [ You think its good, but then it gets fantasitc] Damn!

  • It just makes you want to cry..

  • What does ?

  • He did this live, as an encore number at the gallaconcert of the european brassband championship, in Stavanger, Norway may 2008.

    Simply amazing!

  • He's the definition of hardcore.

  • 1. Thats freaking awesome, nice playing, nice tone

    2. Is he playing a red tone or is it just color quality of the camera or possibly ( hope not XD) My computer?

  • it's a custom horn for him..

    yes red.

  • Ack Värmland :))))

  • cool multiphonics

  • frikkin awesome

  • Hahahaha awsm.

  • genial

  • holy shit this man is amazing

  • mi video favorito Nils Landgren wonderfull...Pablo de Perú

  • phenominal!

  • OMG I LOVE THAT HORN!!!!

  • wait no trigger? that defintely didnt sound like an e..

  • keep it in the low E-G (9th) range, and sing the 5th into the horn. But for a better sound, sing the 10th (3rd + octave). what's AG3042?

  • what notes sorry? and this is multiphonics AG3042 i think

  • and the thing on the back of his slide is a electronic mic transmitter that is connected to a mic on his bell. and two of those trombones were made, he has both.

  • i've played with Nils before, such a funny guy. I have the two notes, but not the three he does at the end...

  • whats that on the back of his tuning slide? why is his horn red?

  • Dang! Not even a trigger trombone and he was able to get pretty low! Veeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeery nice! *goes off to practice*

  • Look forward to see your performance on youtube. I bet it's awesome :-(

  • Lip-synching? Hell no, he isn't.

  • shut up you bastard okonh0wp!!!

  • it's just a joke

  • I want to be as good as him!!!

  • Is he using multiphonics?

  • haha yes he is.

  • VERY GOOD!!!!

  • not bad, never heard smoke on the water on trombone before :P

  • he brings a smile to my face, and makes me want to practice my trombone, i wish i was that good!

  • Pretty sweet song

  • impressive

  • godlike i love him

  • What an actual legend.=]]]

  • I've seen him alot of times

  • Lucky you!

  • This proofs that the soul trumps all.

  • Niiils! <3

  • i like the smoke on the water thrown in there

  • Nice techniques

  • Amazing! That takes so much skill

  • c'est asser impréssionnan la facon don il arrive a faire ces double notes surtout avec un trombone en petite perce

un grand tallen pour nils langren

    bravo

  • boss

  • multi phonics while buzzing your lips... not even a mouthpiece.... damn impressive

  • it's kinda easy to do, but not the way he's doing it. I can make two tones at one time, but he had to use a TON of air, not to mention have incredible accuracy to be even close to in tune. and the stuff he did with only the slide was also pretty impressive.

  • ^this

  • It's not that hard, I learned it fast.

    Just practise:)

  • Holy crap, is he growling the harmony at will?

...any notion I had that I was good at this instrument is now gone.

  • he's playing it on the frikin mouthpiece!!! f*** he's amazing.

  • THAT IS THE COOLEST VERSION OF SMOKE ON THE WATER! i can play it in the lower octave, but not with a beastly tone like that. i need a bigger mouthpiece..=P

  • To tenorowy puzon?? Naprawdę rewelka. Trochę musiał ćwiczyć w szkole muzycznej.

  • Jasne, że tenorowy. Poza tym nie wszyscy wybitni muzycy chodzili do szkół muzycznych.

  • BADASS

  • ES DE PTM!!

  • ES DE PTM!!

  • this is awesome!!

  • cool stuff man

  • This dude is a Savage..

    Sexy ass Trombone

  • its some sort of yamahaa i think

  • i no yamahaa mikes like every thing

  • its not rose brass its just red lol

  • what kind of bone is that?

  • a Trom-bone

  • ha ha smart ass

  • Most Excellent! I play Trombone.... and I can say with a high degree of assurance, that this guy is VERY TALENTED!

  • absolutly great, i like it very much, and i would be happy if i could play so good as you, lol

  • WTF great music but a red trombone?

  • I believe that's rose brass

  • oh that would make sense, have you seen some of the other colors though? like green and black?

  • That is not rose brass. Rose Brass is a type of brass with a high copper content so it shines with more of a light red-orangeish hue. kinda like the color of a clean penny.

This trombone is just a red color, probably a special lacquer or something.

    definately not paint

  • wow... wow....... .. .. wow lol, i've been working on what he is doing for 6 months, and still can't get it.. rock on lol! <3 trombone

  • that was good! wish i could play like that.

  • This guy has mastered his instrument. I don't think I've heard a 'bone player with a wider range. His low notes growl and his high notes soar! Terrific! He's also really funny. I was cracking up when he started disassembling his trombone!

  • that's training.. the lower range what he is playing there what sounds massive.. is called double buzz.. like speaking trough your nose and mouth at the same time.. he is blowing..and nurring.. that makes the terrific sound

  • Amazing.

  • HOLY CRAP!!! LOL HE IS AWESOME!!!!! way better than me the trombone is such a great instrument!

  • 3:00 is great

  • buen trombon ese

    es un trobon yamaha

    xina?

    o no

    digo yo por

    el sonido!

  • You hum while playing, humming the right tones gets you chords and overtones as well (and that raspy dirty sound). It takes lots of practice.

This is a really good player and very entertaining.

  • Ok, Im a trombone player myself, and i have no idea as to how he did the awesome effects after 2:10. I know he liked hummed along with the note, but what else?

  • hahahahahahaha lol

  • this is sort of silly and show-offy but still impressive i like his more chill stuff with pat metheny. but this just seems kinda pointless

  • As a trombone player, I REALLY appreciate THIS! This guy is GREAT!! PROST!

  • how does he create the popping sound?

  • he plugs up the bell receiver hole and the leadpipie with his fingers, creating air pressure when the slid is pulled.

  • That guy owns. gotta love the rock breakdown in the middle. great range and pretty much everything.

  • That is just great!

  • sounds kind of like an electric guitar at 2:12...wow....I'm a sax player who plays trombone for fun and that made me want to practice trombone more often than I do...however my band director doesn't want trombone taking away from sax soooo

  • Incredible! I've never heard that combination of methods used. What's the low chordal sound called?

I like his "no trombone, NO PROBLEM!" approach there. Fantastic player, fun entertainment.

  • Called "Multiphonix" Usually, it's humming a P5 (perfect fifth) above the note played. Takes a LOT of control, he's über-impressive.

  • Hey, you know what?!? Us trumpet players do the same thing! Play (finger) the root, humm the 5th, and the 3rd sometimes shows up.

Sounds like the multiphonix is much easier & more useful on a trombone than on a trumpet.

    Thanks!

  • nils landgren o genio

    esteve em santos ano passado...

uma cara super humilde e gnt fina

  • Makes me want to dust off my trombone. Wish I never stopped playing.

  • That was pretty damn good...

  • po esse cara toca de mais

    so fan dele AISJAisjAS

    PARABENS !

  • this is actually genuinly entertaining when he played green onions was my favourite cant wait to get a trombone

  • Fun instrument! If you practice deep breathing, and have a good warm up, you will get good fast.

    I love playing my trombone.

    What model are you getting?

  • Ive ordered a cheap one on ebay its a CHASE ive never heard of the company before but im sure it will get me started, thanks for the advice

  • Meh, hopefully you will get something a little more name brand when/if you get better.

    I am hoping when.

  • Wish I was good at multiphonics...

  • whats is the first song called can anyone tell me and where can i get it...

  • The melody with which Landgren begins and ends is "Dear Old Stockholm," a jazz standard taken from a traditional Swedish folk tune. (Incidentally, songs are sung; tunes are played.) First arranged and performed as a jazz tune by tenor saxophonist Stan Getz in 1951, it has since been recorded by many others, including Miles Davis, John Coltrane, Wayne Shorter, Donald Byrd, Charles Mingus, and Quincy Jones (the last two use the title "Stockholm Sweetnin'").

  • Google IS handy, isn't it? Pedant.

  • "Ack Värmland du sköna" is the name of the song.

  • de la ptm eee mis respetos

  • Bet the neighbours love him!

  • According to my trombone instructor(Who is a sponsored trombonist), and my friend's tuba instructor, double buzzing is what happens when a player does not set the corners or tries to play without supporting the air and forcing the mouthpiece. This causes the bottom lip to vibrate at a different frequency than the top lip, and it is not a pretty sound. What Nils is doing is Multiphonics.

  • Basically, during Double Buzzing, the chops fall apart. Have you ever heard a young trombonist play a note, and all of a sudden the note starts going crazy, almost like it's growling? That's most likely double buzzing, and a similar sound is produced when you sing a note that goes against the note you're playing. Now, unless what people are referring to as Double Buzzing is something different, Nils is doing multiphonics, not Double Buzzing.

  • "Fat Lip Trombone solo" search it on you tube..... the guy played with price, double buzzing or mutiphonics is the fucken shit...... seriously

  • That's Michael Nelson, and yeah, I know. It's on my favorites. Also Multiphonics(And pick up the CD, the version is a little different on it, but still cool).

  • i know he's on mike but damn whenever i try to play loud on a low note on my bone it goes up a half step. I think i'm tightening my lips while i'm trying to blow more air but my teacher says you need faster air not necessarily more air.

  • is it red...or is it just me...

OMG Im new to the trombone, and i play crap.

  • lol yeah i cant even imagine practicing like that! that must be sooooo friggan hard (btw i play bass trom.)
