This guy is a Bozo Deluxe. What I find so revolting about guys like Bill Maher on the gun Issue is that I believe they know full well why the 2nd amendment was put in place and why it is so important to this country. I also find it disgusting that people like Bill Maher like to make fun of this issue when they suround themselves with body guards who carry guns to protect them. Everything is a big joke to them and they only do it to get publicity.
What I find disgusting is how Maher is so fucking contradictory! He's anti-gun yet often claims to be a libertarian. He's full of many other contradictions, too, but I'm too lazy to mention them all right now.
@Edgehead10075 He's actually pro-gun. He owns a .357 Magnum for a reason. What he is is anti-shooting people. Which is what a lot of people do with guns. He's not calling out anyone who has a gun, he's calling out people who carry that gun around everywhere they go, conceiled without a license to carry, and politicians who want to loosten restrictions on gun-ownership. Some people should just not be able to buy firearms.
Nope. He's anti-gun. If you're against allowing people to carry concealed weapons, you're anti-gun. Your human right to self defense doesn't go away once you leave your house. There should be no licensing of guns, only permits to carry, which should be given to any adult who's not a convicted felon or who's institutionalized.
@Edgehead10075 Not necessarily. He told this story once in relation to wolves stalking his house and almost killing his dog. Also, there is a huge difference between needing to shoot a person and just shooting a person. Self-defense is fine, but you do not need a fully automatic assault rifle for it.

@gunzrkewl No, it seems like the same people who were irrationally fearful then are still irrationally fearful now. Some of the rest of us are disappointed, but that's not the same thing.
obamas voting record on gun control speaks for itself. people with obama shirts on buying guns were asked why they are buying guns.their response was because they wanted to get one while they still could.
The point on gun control is to ensure wackos like the folks lead to kill people in the name of the second ammendment by idiots like Glnn Beck don't get a gun so lives wont be lost. It's called a psychologic evaluation!
@NUTCASE71733 Did you know far more people are killed by cars every year than by guns? Maybe people should have to pass a psychological evaluation before we issue a driving license. After all we don't want "wackos" behind the wheel of a vehicle, now do we?
I took the time to look that up and guess what; THE FACT CARS DO THAT IS THE REASON WHY THERE ARE PERMITS AND SUCH REQUIRED TO OWN ONE! It's ok to own a gun but you at least need to be of sound mind. I'd sooner trust a common criminal with a gun than anyone from the NRA or any other ultra-conservative nutjob any day.
@NUTCASE71733 Obtaining a drivers license requires you to demonstrate competency in the operation of a motor vechicle, not pass a psychological evalutaion.
But isn't it interesting that despite a permit being nessesary to operate a vehicle on public roads there are still so many accidents every year? Makes you wonder if they have any impact on road safety at all.
Lol in order to get rid of weapons, we need a system where weapons are not needed. When there is poverty, sickness, war, corporate crimes, police states, drug profiting, food shortages, unemployment, and environmental destruction, people need self protection when their own system is completley failing them. We need a 100 percent environmental change from this contrived system that is broken. Only then will weapons be obsolete.
what pisses me off is not the dems and their conflict of the second amendment but the republicans and their clear hypocris, they fight so hard for their rights to bear arms but get really scared when other countries try to get weapons
You dont need it UNTIL THE FUCKING SOVIETS INVADE. Just an example. The Soviets invaded finland before Germany invaded them in ww2. Finland was horribly outmanned and outgunned, but because each Finnish man knew how to handle a weapon and owned his own rifle, they fought off the entire Soviet army.
They so humiliated the Soviets that this made Hitler believe they would be a push over. They were then invaded by the Germans.
Go read about natural rights, some Locke would do you well.
"but because each Finnish man knew how to handle a weapon and owned his own rifle, they fought off the entire Soviet army."
Sorry, but this is plain nonsense. Study some history books first.
Secondly, no fucking Soviets, Mexicans, Canadians etc. are about to invade your country, hence there is still no vital need for a personal right to keep and bear arms in order to guarantee a life in security.
Since when is a right dependent on a need. You either have the right to free speech or you dont. You either have the right to due process or you dont. You either have the right to defend yourself or you dont.
And it would become a vital need the moment someone was breaking into your home, or the government begins rounding up naive pussies like yourself.
An example for this is given by - uh, surprise - the 2nd amendment as it only founds the right to keep and bear arms on the necessity of (i.e. a NEED for) a well regulated militia for the security of a free state.
Have a well equipped and organised police (other word for militia) with the monopoly on keeping arms legally and you will already have the high level of security everyone desires. Lots of other countries give proof to that statement.
Also if a right depends on a need, would we leave it to government to dictate to us when we need to be able to protest, or petition them for a grievance, or to protect ourselves? Give me a break.
Government exists by the consent of the people and derives all its powers from the people. So if the power to use arms to defend liberty is something the government does, it only has this authority because the people gave it this authority.
Noone is disputing the idea of people being the source of all rights.
Everything of what you mentioned won't change the fact, that for living in security there is neither a need nor the least a vital need for a personal right to keep arms. It won't change the fact that such a right is rather counterproductive for achieving the aim of a secure society.
These are empirically verified facts. Whether the american people chooses to acknowledge or to ignore these facts is up to them though.
Where do you live? If you lived in an inner city I bet you would like to have a gun in your house. Even very wealthy areas are targets are extreme violence, like the parents of all those foster children who were murder by 8 people.
You dont pick and choose when evil will come knocking on your door, or kicking it down. It could be a thug, or the worst criminals, the ones who appear under color of government and law. The founders were brilliant, they knew personal arms are always a need.
I do live in an inner city (in Europe) and no, neither do I have a gun nor would I like to have one. I used to live in rural areas and big cities, poor and wealthy ones. Never ever did I meet someone in my neighbourhood who possessed a gun or felt there was a need for having one.
Of course there will never be 100% security, but letting people have the right to keep their own guns, which includes all the pinheads too, does not increase security but rather increases the chance of being shot.
You know the swiss issue fully auto rifles to their citizen militia? Do you ever hear about the swiss having terrible gun crime despite the huge firepower their citizens have? Nope...
Because guns dont = gun violence. Bad people and guns = gun violence.
It isnt guns that are violent, its people. I am done wasting my time on you.
1. The swiss militia is nothing else then the Swiss armed forces. No wonder they happen to have fully automatic rifles.
2. There is no need for disproving claims I never made. I didn't say that guns themselves were violent. Of course it is the people.
3. My point was a totally different one. I pointed out there was no vital need for a personal right to keep arms in order to guarantee security. Germany has one of the tightest laws on guns, however authorities are able guarantee security.
dude you live in Europe we live in the US what is good for you is not good for us the only reason we have our own country is because we had guns did you know a lot of our gun laws are taken word for word form German gun control laws in the 1930s under Hitler and we all know how well his people faired
It'd be quite sad if "the only reason" for having your own country is because you had guns. I'm not even an American, but I'm sure many of them would argue with that. Also, I really don't get what you're trying to say about 1930s German gun laws. (Use punctuation, it makes things easier.)
nooo the only reason we were able to win our independence from Britain is because we had the means to wage war if we only had sticks and stones it makes it harder to wage war!!!!!!!!
the German gun control laws in the 1930s were the first step to take the power out of the hands of the people so they could not resist a tyrannical government. take the peoples guns and you leave them defenseless!!!! thats not that had to understand.
Tell that to those shot by American police at the Vietnam related demonstrations. They could defend themselves against their government, right, with their rights to wield guns... Also, the way to defend yourself against tyranny in a democracy (which Germany was btw, more or less, at the time...) is education - teaching people to know that extremists don't offer good solutions, so don't elect them. Education might sound harder than guns, I admit :P
ok first of all you are referring to the kent state shooting 1 that was not the police they were us military troops on campus armed with 30 cal military weapons. my dad was there!! the reason they could not defend themselves was not one of the demonstrators had a gun trust me i bet if everyone of the students had the same firepower as the troops that probably would have never happened. education only goes so far as they say bullets change governments far faster then votes do..
