What I find so revolting about guys like Bill Maher on the gun Issue is that I believe they know full well why the 2nd amendment was put in place and why it is so important to this country. I also find it disgusting that people like Bill Maher like to make fun of this issue when they suround themselves with body guards who carry guns to protect them. Everything is a big joke to them and they only do it to get publicity.

He's not calling out anyone who has a gun, he's calling out people who carry that gun around everywhere they go, conceiled without a license to carry, and politicians who want to loosten restrictions on gun-ownership. Some people should just not be able to buy firearms.

Also, there is a huge difference between needing to shoot a person and just shooting a person. Self-defense is fine, but you do not need a fully automatic assault rifle for it.

When there is poverty, sickness, war, corporate crimes, police states, drug profiting, food shortages, unemployment, and environmental destruction, people need self protection when their own system is completley failing them. An example for this is given by - uh, surprise - the 2nd amendment as it only founds the right to keep and bear arms on the necessity of (i.e. a NEED for) a well regulated militia for the security of a free state.

Have a well equipped and organised police (other word for militia) with the monopoly on keeping arms legally and you will already have the high level of security everyone desires. Lots of other countries give proof to that statement.

I do live in an inner city (in Europe) and no, neither do I have a gun nor would I like to have one. I used to live in rural areas and big cities, poor and wealthy ones. Never ever did I meet someone in my neighbourhood who possessed a gun or felt there was a need for having one.

Of course there will never be 100% security, but letting people have the right to keep their own guns, which includes all the pinheads too, does not increase security but rather increases the chance of being shot.
