@renzo1320 Idk, WD-40 causes things to collect dirt and things like that extremely fast, when I use it on my skateboard bearings it ends up breaking them over time its a quick fix but it can break things if your not carful.
Great video as always! I've always used tuf-glide and tuf-cloth as well. Definitely going to look into getting some Ballistol.
Any suggestions, tips or tricks for cleaning grit and grime that gets into the little space between the lock and the liners on lock-back knives? The only way I've been able to do it is squirting some oil in the crack and sticking the corners of a piece of paper in there to clean it out, but it's a pain.
hey jeff, we use ballistol too here, its a extract from pine's... it contains no acid and must be ussual not bad for knives, its also good know here like camomil-oil (chinese stuff to conversate blades...)
it gives no problems in any way to the health... (not toxic) but it taste not that good, its very bitter (...taste of pine ;D)
nice vid, i think i'll use that on my buck 110, however, do you know if it can remove vaguely corroded stainless steel like on my multitool? i use the thing everyday and the hinges on the plyers are stiff now and even the plyers themselves are corroded now. just something i want to fix
Is there anything Jeff can't make interesting? :P
My knife lube of choice: Quantum "Hot Sauce", an oil designed for fishing reels. It seems to gunk up a little quicker than most, but living on the Texas coast, I love the performance and protection.
hey jeff i got 2 questions where can i get the cold steel knife at and i got a beretta knife from a yard sale and it has some pretty pesky adhesive on it would this stuff take it off and if it doesnt what would?
Your corner store (Dot) com. And for cleaning adhesives off knives, I use vegetable oil of light mineral oil, a soft rag and some light pressure. Usually works pretty well, gets that damn adhesive off the CS machetes afetr prying up the sticker. Hope this helps, mate. Give it a try, cheap and has worked very wll for me.

@scbysnx yeah I got them before I got into guns, lol, I did use them exactly how you see it here then when I got my guns I started using it for them too
@cutlerylover ok thanks Jeff but i live in Australia so its a but hard to find other lubes but i just tried it out with 2 of my knifes. well it work ok not the best though.
Try Eezox if you get a chance. I'm a recent convert from CLP to Eezox, and it works great on knives too. It dries and leaves a dry film, so it doesn't collect dirt.
I've been using Ballistol on everything for over a year. its cheap, and its the best stuff I've used for anything. I use it on wood, leather, steel.. pretty much everything.. lol ..
Just so you know on a Glock, You need something more viscous, than rem oil. I recommend shooters choice or some other grease meant for firearms, I put it in for places on the frame before reassembly. BTW I'm not hating on rem oil, I love it for coating knives and the gun's bore!
@AtrixStout NO, WD40 is water based which will cause rust over time. And also after the WD40 goes away what ever you use it on will be worse of before you used WD40 because It literally dries it out.
WD-40 is a kerosine (uk paraffin) base water displacing lub (WD-40 stands for Water Displacing formula no.40) It's good for getting under water trapped in mechanisms, like the joints in a washed out pocket knife.
Bassman is right inasmuch as it does dry out over time and and leaves the metal unprotected. My grandfather's Win 94 was red with rust when I inherited it.
Yeah, I like Ballistol, too - used it on my new Leatherman Skeletool because the pliers were quite stiff - worked perfectly. And on the knifes, which are in contact with food sometimes, i use it regularly for cleaning and lubing, too. I've been using the Tuf-Glide. It doesn't seem to be a great lubricant, but I like it because it dries and doesn't attract dirt. I may have to try out the Ballistol. Do you think it will attract dirt?

don't want to come off like a spammer, but I am in fact enamored with this stuff and it's awesome!!!!!!!!!
@docnightfall The USP mineral oil is nontoxic and tasteless.
Mineral oil is good when dealing with late 19th and early 20th century knives and straight razors because their handles and scales were often made of celluloid, an early, easily dissolvable, thermoplastic.
Its to bad they discontinued the X2 now they have a new one blade style though. I think they have a 5.5 inch bladed model. Don't quote me on that.5 stars-Joshua
lol the add for this vid is royal purple synthetic oil spray lube i know you cant help that but i thoutht it was funny i think i will pick up an syringe i have been thinking about it i just hate spending money on stuff thats not knives and gear but i have an knife that can use the TLC thanks for the vid i will check out ballistol
Nice video as always. Oh and on an unrelated note, my scale was broken when i weighed my silver, you may remember my comment from the other video. I was surprised when i got the reading of 2 pounds, did not feel like it at all. Turns out to be 4603 regular ounces. Haha, yes i am very stupid.
It looks like those wood scales are varnished/shellaced/otherwise sealed. If so, and it's intact, the Ballistol probably won't do anything at all -- it's already protected from things like water and Ballistol ;). If the sealant isn't intact though, then using something like that on the wood is a good thing.
nice vid, would this work on a blade that has a coating on it? would it still soak up the oil like your polished blade? the knife im asking about it for is a sheffield, cheap $11 knife but it has some type of black/ grey finish. just wondering thanks.
@astaschak It doesn't actually soak into the metal. Metal doesn't have "pores" they way so many people say, but it DOES have surface imperfections. If metal were porous, you could put oil on it, and watch it disappear as it soaks in. Instead, you wipe it down so that the oil settles into the surface imperfections -- you can see them under a good microscope.
I just use pb blaster.

nice vid, would this work on a blade that has a coating on it? would it still soak up the oil like your polished blade? the knife im asking about it for is a sheffield, cheap $11 knife but it has some type of black/ grey finish. just wondering thanks.

@astaschak It doesn't actually soak into the metal. Metal doesn't have "pores" they way so many people say, but it DOES have surface imperfections. If metal were porous, you could put oil on it, and watch it disappear as it soaks in. Instead, you wipe it down so that the oil settles into the surface imperfections -- you can see them under a good microscope.

yea it will soak it up better probably due to weather or not its matt or has poars

don't bother on an 11$ knife, just lubricate the joints to keep it running smooth, doesn't need to be pretty.
