  • @renzo1320 Idk, WD-40 causes things to collect dirt and things like that extremely fast, when I use it on my skateboard bearings it ends up breaking them over time its a quick fix but it can break things if your not carful.

  • just a heads up hickok45 also did a gun cleaning(on one of his glocks of course) vid using ballistol if anyone wants to check that out

  • Is it food-safe? I sometimes use my pocket knives with food so I'm wondering if balistol is safe...

  • where can you get that? like what stores

  • does ballistol freeze up or get thick in the winter?

  • Great video as always! I've always used tuf-glide and tuf-cloth as well. Definitely going to look into getting some Ballistol.

Any suggestions, tips or tricks for cleaning grit and grime that gets into the little space between the lock and the liners on lock-back knives? The only way I've been able to do it is squirting some oil in the crack and sticking the corners of a piece of paper in there to clean it out, but it's a pain.

u did mention it, but this is not what i expected lol.

i was expecting a chemical smell like WD40 or something :P

  • nice vid, i think i'll use that on my buck 110, however, do you know if it can remove vaguely corroded stainless steel like on my multitool? i use the thing everyday and the hinges on the plyers are stiff now and even the plyers themselves are corroded now. just something i want to fix

  • Hay can you make a vid showing the smallest knife that you have / or your knife collection?

  • what moddle is the cold steel?

  • @axxaxaxx

He say's it's the Voyager X2 if you watch the video.

  • @axxaxaxx its the X2 Voyager with a clip point blade

  • @axxaxaxx Cold Steel Voyager X2

  • the biggest advantage of ballistol is, that it is non toxic, its great for straigt razors too...

  • Hey Jeff nice vid can you make one on how you hold the camera aka camera setup

  • can you get ballistol from stores or do you have to order it from online

  • Thanks!

  • Dear Jeff

What balisong would you recomend for a person who has never owned a balisong and wich is your favorite?

  • If it smells like almonds I'd say to heck with it which sucks because it looks good.

  • @JesusFuckingChrist84

    just give it a try...;)

it has its own smell, not actually like almonds

  • @Rasenkrieger

I hope so, I'm allergic to those buggers, the smell of them drives me crazy! ;-)

  • 12:41 That's what she said.

  • awesome. thanks

  • I'll have to try that on my knives Jeff. Love the X2 man. Nice to see it featured in this video.

  • where do u get it?

  • Wow, thank you for this review!

I have to get Ballistol quick for my collection. :-)

  • Is there anything Jeff can't make interesting? :P

My knife lube of choice: Quantum "Hot Sauce", an oil designed for fishing reels. It seems to gunk up a little quicker than most, but living on the Texas coast, I love the performance and protection.

  • hey jeff i got 2 questions where can i get the cold steel knife at and i got a beretta knife from a yard sale and it has some pretty pesky adhesive on it would this stuff take it off and if it doesnt what would?

  • @acdcfan62895

Your corner store (Dot) com. And for cleaning adhesives off knives, I use vegetable oil of light mineral oil, a soft rag and some light pressure. Usually works pretty well, gets that damn adhesive off the CS machetes afetr prying up the sticker. Hope this helps, mate. Give it a try, cheap and has worked very wll for me.

  • can u get this in the UK ?

  • have u concealed carry your 1911?

  • is it as toxic as the rem oil aresoal cans

  • no, it is actually food approved for animals and hold in stock for humans in pharmacy stores (neo-ballistol, same raw materials)

  • it says bio-degradeable on the can.

  • Thanks man, a great knife video. Awesome.

  • how you lubed the slipjoint is how i lube my voyager. thanks for making the video. i've been looking for an alternate lubricant for my knives.

do you know if tufglide protects from surface rust, too?

  • is it flamable

  • lol is it jus me or his voice really calmin

  • Thanks for the comment that it wasn't slick & not oily. That's exactly what I was thinking. Great vid!

  • I'll take a case!!! Lol.

  • good vid jeff, but by any chance do you have the cold steel peacekeeper?

  • great vid jeff!...I often use my knives for food prep and worry about petroleum based oils...is balliistol foodsafe???

  • @swampfox29607 Excellent question. I was wondering the same thing.

  • see below, it is the most foodsafe lubricant available toady (or- as foodsafe as it gets)

Regularly used for animal food alimentation and medical use on human patients, the ingredients are known to be approved by the German drug administration for several decades, look up more details you´ll be stunned.

What is stunning to me is that is this good in comparison with complicated/ toxic stuff that is used on a regular basis

  • it is approved in germany as a medical food supplement. And we (in Germany, that is) have strict regulations toward food supplements that are supplied by pharmacies. Higher than what is applied to supermarket goods

btw. It was to be introduced to the US armed forces in 1914 yet the introduction interrupted by WW1

  • yes its food safe Ill have more info in a fuituire video, but lab tests on rats and rabbits show no harmful effect at all, what does that mena for people? lol dont know how it relates that much, but every soruce I see sais its food safe for sure since its completely made form natural products or man made versions of natural material...

  • hah so many things in that sounded ambiguous xD

i'm gonna try to find myself an alternative for this product

oil that can be used for metal and wood ..

i don't live in US so i doubt i'll find ballistol here without importing it myself

  • I think you should get a glock18 or a mp5 (cuz its german ;-) )

  • why didn't you clean your new holster?

  • question about the Norton UCS, you did a review when you first got it and in that video you mentioned not having guns, I've always wondered at what point that changed lol

  • @scbysnx yeah I got them before I got into guns, lol, I did use them exactly how you see it here then when I got my guns I started using it for them too

  • Very cool Man... I've been using tuf-glide primarily, but may have to give this a try. Thanks for the vid!

  • what is the difference between ballistol lube and ballistol sportmans oil

  • what does it smell like?

  • @cory8791 s,ells a bit like almonds, not bad smelling but not somethgin you want to sniff on purpose...if that amkes any sense..

  • is ballistol better than tuf-glide?

  • @branfrog so far I think it is, but Ill let you know after more use...

  • @cutlerylover

You'll let us know after more use? How do you plan on finding out if it's flammable?

You should show us a video ;)

  • would WD-40 work well???

lolz "OMG, that feels good" thats what she siad

  • WD-40 isnt bad at all as are many other lubes, I jsut think this is better and is more safe to use...

  • @cutlerylover ok thanks Jeff but i live in Australia so its a but hard to find other lubes but i just tried it out with 2 of my knifes. well it work ok not the best though.

  • WD-40 Gums up over time and can make it stickier. Oils are better, I use rem oil on all of my knives. petroleum jelly dissolves plastic

  • @cutlerylover you should do some HD Films

  • gravity is your friend

why do you apply oil and then rotate the knife 90 degrees when ur working it in?

  • jeepers jeff you always find a way to make me giggle

  • Really cool oil jeff... Thx

  • I like the fact that it says "no carcinogens". Don't need to get cancer just for some smooth knives!

  • I need a non-toxic lubricant.......

  • @redsoxnation32 ballistol is non toxic

  • Try Eezox if you get a chance. I'm a recent convert from CLP to Eezox, and it works great on knives too. It dries and leaves a dry film, so it doesn't collect dirt.

  • I've been using Ballistol on everything for over a year. its cheap, and its the best stuff I've used for anything. I use it on wood, leather, steel.. pretty much everything.. lol ..

  • glad you were able to work out the stiffness...lol

  • use pnumatic oil, its cheep and works great

  • i herd ballistol also works well to revitalize G10.

  • can you do a vid on how to put lube on an opinel?

  • well you just spread it on and the wood will soak it up, but if I remember and can find one of my opinels yes Ill do it...

  • organic oils work to

  • thats what she said lol jk dude

  • 12:40, Thats what she said :D

  • Just so you know on a Glock, You need something more viscous, than rem oil. I recommend shooters choice or some other grease meant for firearms, I put it in for places on the frame before reassembly. BTW I'm not hating on rem oil, I love it for coating knives and the gun's bore!

  • lol you lube it and say, it feels pretty good now.

  • WD-40.

  • @AtrixStout NO, WD40 is water based which will cause rust over time. And also after the WD40 goes away what ever you use it on will be worse of before you used WD40 because It literally dries it out.

  • @AtrixStout WD-40

WD-40 is a kerosine (uk paraffin) base water displacing lub (WD-40 stands for Water Displacing formula no.40) It's good for getting under water trapped in mechanisms, like the joints in a washed out pocket knife.

Bassman is right inasmuch as it does dry out over time and and leaves the metal unprotected. My grandfather's Win 94 was red with rust when I inherited it.

  • Cool, I will put ballistol on everything that gets stiff :) 5 stars

  • will this work on cleaning old lighters?

  • Thanks Jeff!

  • Yeah, I like Ballistol, too - used it on my new Leatherman Skeletool because the pliers were quite stiff - worked perfectly. And on the knifes, which are in contact with food sometimes, i use it regularly for cleaning and lubing, too. BTW, is the Ballistol that you can buy in the US produced there under license, or do they import "the original German stuff"? Greets..

  • whats the diference between the sportsman and the lube version of that lube

  • THATSWHATSHESAID :D lol great vid :D

  • Thanx for the vid Jeff I might have to give Ballistol a try

  • i noticed when i bought my fixed blade cold steel uwk, the sheath had oil in it. im guessing that was to help protect the blade, but i could be wrong.

  • Could you use olive oil also? someone told me you can.

  • ok thank u sir

  • stilla little bit stiffer than the other one... that's what he said teehee

  • you pretty much covered that second knife in oil, you might as well have just dropped it in the can lol

  • right on man... great info 5 stars

  • hey jeff i've already asked you this on a e-mail, how do we whipe it off for food preparation, or field dressing?

  • can you do a vid on do's and donts when using a wet stone im a new knife guy and dont have alot of experience sharpening knives..........

  • I've been using the Tuf-Glide. It doesn't seem to be a great lubricant, but I like it because it dries and doesn't attract dirt. I may have to try out the Ballistol. Do you think it will attract dirt?

  • ive used it for a while

  • what about using 3 in 1 oil

  • thats ok but not food safe, to the best of ym knowledge this is...Ill ahve more info in the future...

  • Looks like good stuff for riveted blades.

I usually prefer grease for my blades that are either torques screw or otherwise screw adjustable and able to be disassembled.

I know a lot of people probably think grease is a bad idea for lubricating a knife, all I can say is that you should check out brian enos slide glide at brian enos(.)com

don't want to come off like a spammer, but I am in fact enamored with this stuff and it's awesome!!!!!!!!!

  • that what she said :,)

  • What does it taste like?

I prefer to use USP-grade mineral oil because I use my knives a lot for food and food packages. The USP mineral oil is nontoxic and tasteless.

  • @docnightfall The USP mineral oil is nontoxic and tasteless.

Mineral oil is good when dealing with late 19th and early 20th century knives and straight razors because their handles and scales were often made of celluloid, an early, easily dissolvable, thermoplastic.

  • u said oh my god comes right out thats what she said lol

  • Looks good!!

  • Jeff,

This syringe goes nicely with your baggie collection. LOL.

    Seriously, Ballistol rules.

  • Only person I knew on YouTube that used Ballistol was hickok45.. specifically for firearms.

Haven't had the chance to use it yet..

  • Its to bad they discontinued the X2 now they have a new one blade style though. I think they have a 5.5 inch bladed model. Don't quote me on that.5 stars-Joshua

  • lol the add for this vid is royal purple synthetic oil spray lube i know you cant help that but i thoutht it was funny i think i will pick up an syringe i have been thinking about it i just hate spending money on stuff thats not knives and gear but i have an knife that can use the TLC thanks for the vid i will check out ballistol

  • my friend only uses ballistoll but i use rem oil because i'm cheap

  • Nice video as always. Oh and on an unrelated note, my scale was broken when i weighed my silver, you may remember my comment from the other video. I was surprised when i got the reading of 2 pounds, did not feel like it at all. Turns out to be 4603 regular ounces. Haha, yes i am very stupid.

  • It looks like those wood scales are varnished/shellaced/otherwise sealed. If so, and it's intact, the Ballistol probably won't do anything at all -- it's already protected from things like water and Ballistol ;). If the sealant isn't intact though, then using something like that on the wood is a good thing.

  • Thats a nice knife Jeff, I need to get a few cans of Ballistol

  • Nice, Do you know what stores locally sell Ballistol? Cabelas?

  • finally so knives video god

  • nice vid, would this work on a blade that has a coating on it? would it still soak up the oil like your polished blade? the knife im asking about it for is a sheffield, cheap $11 knife but it has some type of black/ grey finish. just wondering thanks.

  • @astaschak It doesn't actually soak into the metal. Metal doesn't have "pores" they way so many people say, but it DOES have surface imperfections. If metal were porous, you could put oil on it, and watch it disappear as it soaks in. Instead, you wipe it down so that the oil settles into the surface imperfections -- you can see them under a good microscope.

  • yea it will soak it up better probably due to weather or not its matt or has poars

  • don't bother on an 11$ knife, just lubricate the joints to keep it running smooth, doesn't need to be pretty.

  • middle

  • is it safe on plastics?? or will it eat them like wd-40

  • it actually protects the plastics though u should test it on whatevet plastic u want

  • @airsoftmasta102 100% safe on plastic and cna be used for plastic, wood, metal, or leather...

  • im going to buy a can or two then.... thnx for showing us this stuff

  • Watched Pete as well....He LOVES ballistol, was thinking of getting some ....now it has the Cutlerylover seal of approval......

    Nice vid as ever

  • this whole video... That What She Said. jeff watch the lube! LOL
