new york today has a ton of boring professionals from out of town. The real creative artists went there in th 1970/80s because there were many areas that were ridiculously cheap to live in. Its hard to live cheap, its almost impossible . The scary thing is that this is happening to Chicago too. Poor people are moving out to other Midwest cities like Milwaukee and Minneapolis

I'm sorry to compare both cities is a fucking joke. Chicago is oe of the MOST ghetto, segregated and expensive cities. 10.25% tax on everything from gas to bubble gum. Mass transit? Takes 90 minutes to get from the South side to Devon (north) vs 35 minutes in a car. Compare that to NYC where you could get pretty much anywhere in the city quicker on rail. There isn't a SINGLE south asian/halal restaurant from 61th street to brdgview in chi vs thousands of 'halal' carts in Manhattan alone

NYC is the MOST expensive city in the USA. Chicago is relatively cheap when compared to LA and NYC. Not sure how Chicago expensive is a hindrance to it when its cheap compared to NYC. It may take longer to go from one place to another, but it's rarely as congested when compared to NYC transit. The reason why NYC's transit is more extensive than Chicago is because it's one of the oldest lines in America. It was build out of necessity but even then it STILL sucks.

Chicago isn't the most ghetto. South side is a mixture of the baddest Detroit but even then there are only pockets of "ghetto." Most of NYC is laden with graffiti while The Bronx is one of the worst boroughs to live in. There aren't many Asian restaurants on the Southwest Side because that part is dominated by Irish, Polish, Latino, and Middle Easterners. If you want Asian go to the Northwest Side.

On segregation: NYC is NOT a melting pot. Although most countries are presented in NYC, NYC is still segregated. In Manhattan you'll find most financiers white while minorities are the one pushing baby strollers because their moms are shopping. If you want a "New York" experience, go to Chicago. It's a much better city; it's cleaner, the people are more educated and friendly, it doesn't smell like piss, and you get more for your dollar than you ever will in NYC. The last time I was there MORE THAN ONE New Yorker seemed utterly shocked to learn that Minneapolis (where I currently live) doesn't have cows roaming freely in the streets. Really?!
