  • @powercan7 hey thanks a lot :)

  • Can you play and sing black magic women or hotel California??

  • @1TU3 I often think about recording hotel california....just not sure it would do justice to the original. but it is definitely one of my favourite songs. I'm wrirting a song that reminds me of black magic woman so when i record that, hopefully you will feel it is similar and be happy. thank you very much ;)

  • this is the first time I heard this song and I am rarely moved like this.

possibly one of the greatest songs iv heard in my life........ I cried.

  • @UrGirlWantzMe I'm sorry to hear that but sometimes that is what has to happen for things to get better in the future. whatever your situation is, good luck and hang in there.

  • Im just 15 years old and this made me cry :') Happy Father's Day, Dad! I love you!

  • @magicmannabil I'm very proud to have you listen to this and feel the love for your father. Congratulations and hope all is well with you and him.

  • great singing man. i think for a lot of people this brings them back to a certain time and place. i think many in the vietnamese community love this song especially because it was at a time when we left our country and for many their fathers. very touching rendition. thank you. i think of my father always when I hear this.

  • @xnetdude Thanks very much. I agree and I feel sad for anyone in that situation. My wife is from Indonesia and she is over here in Canada with me and missing her family very much so I can imagine what it must be like. I was in Jakarta for a year and missed my family, too.

  • when i was little, my papa said if i could sing this song to him one day, he'll give me a lot of money. But now, this song is just a piece of cake for me to sing. But now, he's "gone".My old papa has gone, replaced by a stranger.

I just talked with him on the phone after like a year and of course, we had fight. Then i came down to listen to your song.

My tears started to running and running...

I love the way you sing the song...

    rate 100...

  • @DinhHeidi19 I'm so sorry to hear your story and wish you the best. Thank you for sharing it and for your kind words about my version of this wonderful song.

  • @zerobio, this made me cry more than i've cried in a while, and im just nineteen, studying abroad, and im really close to my dad. I miss him, your song reminds me of his ways. thank you

  • @guitarjam559 I'm so sorry, I wish you all the best and thank you for writing me.

  • zerobio by the way i like this song too one of my favor. song by paul anka and you did it good this song sound easy but it heard to sing right

  • @TheBenwannabe Yes, it is a bit hard to sing this one well, I agree. Somehow, although it is a simple song, you have to really be on key for it to sound good...and I was a bit off here and there. But it is a wonderful song from a fantastic songwriter, Mr. Anka.

  • i really like the sound of his mic. how can you get that does anybody know please posts back if anyone knows

  • @TheBenwannabe Hi there. The mic is not that special, it's only about $600. Perhaps it's more the eq and reverb that makes it sound acceptable to your ears. I'm using the freeware plugin called FreeVerb with a nice setting and boosting the high's about 2.5 db. I would love a better mic but this one is doing the job. Thank you for watching this video.

  • "Rhinestone Cowboy" is truly a great tune. It has one of the best pop song lines ever: "And I dream of the things I'll do, with a subway token and a dollar tucked inside my shoe." A little dated but a classic line! No more subway tokens and a dollar won't get you too far! You are right about "Wichita Lineman." Your voice is perfect for that song. "Phoenix" is rare in that it is a ballad about a man who leaves a woman. Most heartbreak tunes are the opposite. Thanks again Elliott.

  • @seanny1963 Awesome! I already know the Witcheta song and Rhinestone Cowboy. Let me finish a couple of projects and get to this or these. If I forget, please consider reminding me. Great to hear from you.

  • Thanks for acknowledging my comment. Don't worry about leaving out a verse. You have an amazing voice. Elliott, did you ever consider doing a cover of Glenn Campbell's "Rhinestone Cowboy" or perhaps "By the Time She Gets to Phoenix?" I think you would do a great job with either or both of those tunes. From your fan from Long Island, NY, Sean

  • @seanny1963 Sean, as a matter of fact I am a big Glen Campbell fan and for the longest time have been planning to do "Witcheta Lineman". But "Rhinestone Cowboy" plays through my head once in a while and I think about doing it. And the "Phoenix" song....man, I sing that to myself all the time. Great choices. Thanks for your encouragement. :)

  • Beautiful job with a beautiful tune. But why did you leave a verse out? "Times were rough, but Papa, he was tough" etc...That said, you did a great version of one of my all time favorite songs Elliott. From Sean

  • @seanny1963 Thank you, Sean. You know, I just completely forgot the verse. I hadn't heard the song for a couple decades and did it from memory. Oh gosh, wish I had done my research first.

  • nice

  • You were great! Can I ask you how you did that percussion strum? Are you using your strumming hand or fretting hand? thx

  • @87btran Thanks very much. I would say it's mostly the strumming hand, using my wrist to mute the strings, occassionally my fingers might also tap the wood. But i guess the fretting hand also reacts and moves up and down helping to dampen the strings at the right time (hopefully) in tandem with the other hand. Hard to know as it is somewhat automatic but your question actually makes me thing about it. Once again, thanks for the comment and hope to hear from you again.

  • @z0MGrice I will try to do a tutorial on this soon. Thanks for your comment.

  • @z0MGrice Thanks very much and yes, I will try to do a tutorial sometime soon. Please remind me if I have forgotten.

Your sound system is first class standard. May I know what sound system are you using? Singapore Jo

  • @TheMarinecorps2010 Hi there Singapore Jo. Thanks for your comment. I'm using a computer-based recording system. The software for multitrack recording is Cubase and I use a host of other apps for polishing the sound including Wavelab. Hope that was what you were asking.

  • this is a great song for sure. It is really nostalgic to me as I remember my parents listening to it when I was a kid. Great musical error. Do you know when it was first released?

  • @andyinvietnam Thank you for watching and writing to me. Sorry I don't recall when it was released but I was a kid, maybe 10 years old.

  • This song is VERY popular among the Vietnamese. Its a very good song but unfortunately, as you mentioned, it is a less known song by Paul Anka. The lyrics are very sad...

  • @1TU3 Very interesting to know that. Thanks for sharing and watching.

    Singapore - Jo Leng

  • Hi Jo Leng, I am canadian but I am heading to Indonesia this weekend to meet my indonesian girl and hope to move there to stay this coming summer! I was a professional singer at one time but currently I do this for my hobby ... until somebody decides they want to back me in the music biz, i guess. Thanks a lot for your questions and your kind comments.

    ~ Elliott

  • Very Good!!

  • thank you

  • AWESOME!!!!

    I LOVE IT!!!!!!!!

  • Thanks so much, really glad you feel that way.

  • Just curious to why you stared the song on a different part then in Paul Anka's version...

I like your voice better. Yours has more emotion compared to Ankas on my ipod...

  • what did you mean by the first sentence? i want to answer but not sure. hey, did you hear his version? this is so nice a comment. thank you.

  • "Everyday my papa would work

To try to make ends meet

To see that we would eat

Keep those shoes upon my feet"

is how the song actually starts...

  • holy crap, i totally forgot that part ... thank you for reminding me! Wow...

  • Excellent Elliot, your strumbling guitar is great.

Everything sounds so softly and very pro my friend. I didn't know that song before,it is very touchy. 100* All the best.

    Ray

  • Very glad you feel this way about my attempt at the song, Ray. I know it is not a big hit and this is why i wanted to do it ... it's a mellow, sad song, touchy. Thank you for listening and commenting on this, Ray.

  • thanks so much and have a good day

  • Hello and thank you for listening diamondhill11.

  • so how do u strum it ? :D

  • Now that is hard to explain. I suggest, for now, just slowly make the chords and gently strum up and down (no real rhythm) as you get used to the chord changes. Listen to the song a few times, try a few lines on your own. Watch and listen to what i do and try to do the same thing. In time, you will get more fluent in the strumming ... i can't explain much better than this. Just watch, listen, try and repeat. You'll get it. Good luck! :)

  • i love it , so could u please give me the chord of the song ?

  • Yes, this is a beautiful song. Here are the chords. I hope you can figure out where the changes are by watching me. Let me know if you have any other questions. Thank you for asking. :)

    ~ Elliott

    VERSE:

    Em / Am / B7 / Em

    CHORUS:

    C / D / B7 Em

    C / D7 / G

    C / D / B7 / Em

    C / Am / B7

  • thanx for the reply zerobio.

so if u were to play this song live alone, is it possible to include the same harmonies and keyboards?

oh ya, who's voice u use for the harmonies? is it ur own voice? or that Cubase software has so-called voice editing function to add in the harmonies?

  • You're welcome, ianjuli. No it would not be possible to include these harmonies and keyboard...it would be just me and the acoustic guitar, also a nice ambience. It is my voice singing harmonies for any song on my channel. But yes, there are voice multipliers that can create many harmonies from one melody...some work not too bad but i don't care for this. I'd rather do my own singing but for someone who needs this, especially in a cafe setting, it definitely can be done and not too badly.

  • hey

first of all , its beautiful.

I am curious about how did u manage to include the harmony of ur voice and some keyboards in the backgroud towards the end of the song..

is ok if u could share?
