Not everyone can write a good screenplay (I speak from experience), and I doubt you could do much better.

As a professional movie critic myself, I don't need his reviews to discover films, but I always find it fascinating to hear what other critics got out of a film. I don't think "Beyond the Valley of the Dolls" was a great film either, but he wrote that screenplay so he could work alongside his good friend, Russ Meyer. Not everyone can write a good screenplay (I speak from experience), and I doubt you could do much better.

If you ever read his blog, memoir, or really any of his reviews - you'll find that it's nearly impossible to dislike this man.
