TO UNAMBITIOUS: It's exactly the opposite of what your co-worker believes. The ocean's color is a reflection of the sky's. When the sky is clear and blue, the ocean's surface reflects the sky's blue color. When there are dark storm clouds brewing, the ocean looks dark and evil all because it reflects the dark patterns from clouds above it.
I want to ask an asatronomer, what would the night sky look like IF earth was in the middle of the milky way. I live in the bush and have a fantastic view of the night sky as it is i can see the dust and everything here :)
I tried to explain this to a co-worker and others that listened in, yet they firmly believe that the sky is blue because of the ocean's refection. Ironic that they treat me like i'm a dimwit so much so I had to reaffirm my knowledge on the matter. Thanks!
People really put value in something that everybody believes, even if they know that they dont have proper knowledge (and probably most other people netiher) to have an informed opinion about it..
Asks someone how much of our brain we use..they'll probably say around 10%..
Or if the direction that drained water rotates depends on what hemisphere you are..most will think it does
It doesnt matter with what explanation you come, they dont think that everybody could be mistaken..

This not only explains "why the sky is blue" it explains "why the sunset is red" and how spectroscopy gives clues to planet-hunters.
Excellent video! Concise, informative, factual, relevant.
Dr. Carolyn Brinkworth is another exemplary spokesperson!
SO far, every video from Spitzer Science Center has been well worth the time!

The claim that we use 10% of our brain is bullshit, it has been proven that humans use 100% of their brain. Unless you're an idiot.
