  • This video went viral on Bandar Seri Begawan

  • Hi ickieestes

Yes, how true and amazing isn't that?!

By the way, I see with the help of YouTube Analytics that we also shouldn't forget to mention Bogota, Guatemala and Cyprys :-)

  • do you have a tutorial on how to play the solo with the right hand?

  • Hi omar

I'm sorry, but I've got no specific tutorial for the right hand. The reason is that the right hand solo is filled with many small phrases and grace notes which makes it very time-consuming to make tutorials for all four solo choruses. Those graces notes and the timing of the right hand notes is also a reason why it is not at all that easy to write accurate sheet music for the solo parts.

My advise is to, by ear (and eye), memorize and ingrain phrase by phrase.

  • Love the video. I ve been trying to nil this for years and find the published sheet music niot very helpful. I'd love a copy of your written notes

  • Hi minben

    Thanks!

The published sheet music is unfortunately not at all accurate, as you have noticed.

  • Not an organ player so if you could clear me up on this that would be great. Is that lower keyboard/pad thing is that like a sub octive were everything is an octive below the top one? Thanks and great tutorial and playing. Your the best I've seen on youtube

  • Thanks Eric Clapton!

You can have almost the same sound from both keyboards (called manuals). The lower is not octaved. The organ is modeled after the Hammond B-3, and the original purpose of the B-3 was to be an affordable small church organ :-)

I use a setting where the two lowest octaves on the lower manual is mapped to a sound I would have if I had foot bass pedals, like a church organ or a B-3 has. This gives a bit fuller bass, down to 34 Hz, but it is not octaved.

  • @rounder2u Thanks this helped alot. So the lower manuals on organs are just so you have more options?

  • Hi Eric Clapton

Exactly so. If you look at a big church organ, or a theater organ, they will most often have at least three manuals, and you will even find organs with five manuals. And in addition to that the foot pedal set.

When it comes to jazz organ though, quite often the left hand is used for playing the bass lines, like I do. If you are interested in what that sounds and looks like you might be interested in checking out e.g. my 'Riff Stapler Blues'.

  • Hey! Thanks a lot for your this great tutorial. I am trying to learn the song and this is a great help. Very clear. Well done!!

Would you make a new one with the solo?

    Regards from Barcelona (Spain)!!

  • Thanks garatger!

Good to hear that you have use of my tutorials :-)

I will not make video tutorials for the solo parts, but I hope my uploaded video of the song will be of help.

My written guide for Green Onions might also be of some additional help as as it e.g. covers tips for memorizing and learning the song. I did send my guide to your YouTube message inbox, and you can check out if there is some info of use for you in the guide.
