i have nothing agents land rover but they suck for the simple fact that they tell you that it can do so much off the streets but who the hell is going to take 50 to 80 thousand dollar car off road. plus there very unreliable because ford makes them
The newly released GC performs much better off road. However, if you replace the shocks/struts in the 05-10 GC with something better than OEM, they're pretty decent off roads too. Any Jeep would outperform the Land Rover hands down.
Haha. That is EXACTLY what I did the forst time I took my Jeep off road up Webster Pass in Colorado. At first I didn't know what was happening then I realized I was teetering back and forth. Cool - got to go back and do it some more!
I have a couple Trail scars as well on my GC..the wife wasn't real happy about it but thats what a Jeep is all about now i just don't tell her and try to cover up new scratches whenever i get back and it gets a real nice bath! And she's like oh nice you washed the Jeep for me..hahahaha
I have a 04 GC and I love it!! It's very roomy and comfy inside and when i turn off the main highway onto some trail i know it's not gonna let me down! I have the SelecTrac 4wd system and it rocks!! Keep Jeepin!!!!!!
how exactly, ive seen land rovers that have done pretty much the same thing just as easily, the traction control on this looks pretty much the same as the one used on the range rovers!!!
IFS can be converted to solid axle... I have seen some truly wiked grands... Its a great base to start with as far as large SUVs go... Though I would say if you want something new and fairly large get a Wrangler unlimited but if you are willing to go a bit older get one of the old ZJ grands... They are all solid axles and the axles can be upgraded without much trouble (a ford 8.8 is a great upgrade for the rear... It even has the same lug pattern).
as far as balance goes, I've had my full size Z71 short bed with those same two wheels off the ground before. And there's a big difference between front a rear weight distribution. I think you can get any car to do that trick.
i love th gradn cherokee. true can definately agree that the IFS isnt made for ofroad use. but it was put out to be a luxury suv butttt with an offroad capability... look at the bright side! it still can make it over the obstical.. even if it has 3 wheel its way through it.
It's true about the Grand Cherokee sales. Ford Explorer sux. try this Grand on for size. Im a die hard offroader and look into buying an 04 grand. That is, when Im old enough to get my license.
i agree. my parents have had Explorers since they came out in 91, but when i bought my 96 Grand Cherokee when i got my license, i knew that Jeeps were much better. good luck with the '04. when are you getting your license?
maybe its a good thing i didn't get it tho- I already have trail scars on my wrangler- I don't think I could handle myself if I did the same to a beautiful vehicle like a GC...
Anyone who knows offroad knows that a solid axle is better for of course articualtion. However, Jeep prolly sells more Grand Cherokees to soccer moms than true off roaders, so an ifs setup is sufficent, but im prolly preaching to the chior anyway. I'd still buy it, it'd spank any other suv that size in off road performance around its price range.... I just gotta get over back seat comfort, UNcomfortable...
i agree that ifs blows, it may be better for rail road crossings or gravel roads but straight axle is far more superior when it comes to real offroad, why do you think so many people spend a couple thousand bucks to have their '86+ toyotas converted to straight axle?... looks like you're the one who doesn't know what you're talking about, knightrider...
My ZJ would flex that shit out ;) No lift or anything, just no front swaybars and great stock rear articulation

Sorry you didnt get the 04' GC. I have one!:P...I love it. It has the select-trac. It seems less complicated than Quadra-drive.
My last 2 cars were BMW's..nothing but problems
I love my Jeep better.
I wanna keep it for many years.

smithy4067 3 years ago
Yea, I see what you mean. But even a few trail scars on a GC can give it some character.
I've always liked the wrangler too. I like the new ones with the square hardtop(they look kinda like LR Defenders)
If I was rich Id get both!

Actually, all that shows is how inferior IFS is.
That is PITIFUL articulation.
