@JumpDuckPWN al the paints that are uased in the video are either Vallejo Game Colour/Model Colour or Citadel Manatures Paint ( GW own brand) if you wish to use Vallajo you might need a Conversion Chart,
outstanding video my brother! You are truly talented and inspiring to us fellow painters or hobbyists. Disregard the idiots with the stupid comments or dumb questions. Your videos and instructions are straight forward and simple. Any chance of a Grey Knight tutorial? Or perhaps a turorial on how you do non metal metallic? Keep up the good work!
@steadyeddie235 I didn't have a lot of money when I started the channel so I asked people from a forum I went to all the time if they were interested in donating minis for some tutorials that I would send back to them when done. I have plenty of devotion, considering it takes about 4 hours to make each video I put up.
This is very easy to paint with that figure. I have 3 space marines and the plastic details are horrible, not as the one he is painting, that is perfect.
Great work, Les. I just picked up the same Assault on Black Reach set so I can get the models together quickly and get to painting, and your tutorials will really help with getting the details down.
One question, what are the sticks you used to hold the backpack / bolter? Just regular wooden sticks? How did you attach them to the model?
wow serious that might take u 45mins (but im calling bullshit) but it would take me like 3hrs for one guys. no thanks, i never had the patients for doing really intricate painting
OMFG thats awsome do you use like a magnification glass to hit all the details or what? and time? hours on one figure. i havent made this in like 8 years :P but i want to get in to it again. please reply me
Hey, I was wondering, the brush that you use, is that a "stiff" brush? I don't like the paintbrush that I have because it drags when I paint. Yours looks almost like a pencil. why is that? is it the brush itself or just your technique? Also, because I'm new to the hobby, would you be able to do a video on mixing and diluting paints? thanks for the help

@Toxicrafa it will not look as good if you just do white, it's a tricky colour to paint so you have to built up, so from black you would use, codex grey, maybe even a layer of fortress grey just so when you put the white on it goes on better.
@Toxicrafa the only problem with using white over a "dark" paint....in this case regal blue......is that you wont get the coverage you want....so that means more coats.....you end up with a "white" that looks "chunky"...best to do it the way Les shows... :)
@EnteruserIDhere1 Thanks! The chapter symbol is a decal. You don't have to like the technique but I'm glad you like the overall finish. It's really about what you like and how you get it done. BTW I read you other comments about not knowing what wash was, then making comments about the negatives of washes (costs etc.) so I'm confused. Using washes is just a technique and many painters in 40k use it since it was introduced by GW.
Hey Im just getting into warhammer 40k, and started painting my space marines, I did choose to go with the ultramarines chapter, could I ask what brushes you used? and what size you would go with on highlights and outlining, I used a 2/0 for my detail and highliting, and a 0 for the blue on the armour but wanted a little for control for painting(I have shaking hands for some reason).

@cypherxxx83 you can use any brush u feel comfortable with...when i started 40k not to long ago, i tried most of the brushes and found that u can do better with ur signature brush...u could do it by what other people thats cool to but i recommend using ur own favorite brush
@awesomepaintjob Reading this comment from 8 months ago, (I'm now on a new account) I laughed. I literally had no idea what I was doing then. Sorry about that.
i'd like to know what you guys think of my idea of a space marine army i'm going to get, first i'll get the AOBR set (take into account that i can't buy this all at once because i have to get paints and a codex), later i'll sell the orks and buy a battle force with land raider or mega force (which one should i choose?) later i'll also get an honour guard
Have the model designs changed in the past 7 years? I rememper I have to cut off the handles on the guns just to glue them onto the hands of my marines. Looks like they made inserts on the arms for hands already holding weapons.
What brushes do you use? Probably a common question. My brushes suck so everything I do is drybrush because I can't highlight or blend with what I use.
I'm going to make my own custom chapter of ultramarines, probably, I'll post them on youtube in a slide show in a few months if i get a chance..I'll probably paint them black, blue, and red.
@ragiskel I assume you mean the right shoulder insignia. On tactical squads it's usually the standard but every chapter and squad have various markings to show what type they belong to.

holy shit Les .. i'm fucking amazed man! totally ... this was SOOOO awesome to watch. At first, I though .. oh great - more Ultramarines ... but this was incredible. Mad, mad skills Les ... that brush control is intense! ... do you paint through a lens?
@RubbishInRubbishOut Thanks Viv! I actually look over the camera with a jewelers visor that magnifies 2.5x. Helps a lot since the camera is in the way :)
Do you find that the visors distort your depth perception? It doesn't seem so, that brush control is incredible! I've found that happens to me when using various styles of lenses.
@RubbishInRubbishOut No distortion because you have a lens for each eye. Single lens will do that to you. I went to the visor because my eyes would ache after about 6 hours. I would go smoke and focusing my eyes on anything more than 12 inches in front of me wasn't happening. It's a nice tool to have to get brush control down and save your eyes at the same time.
Nice, getting a pair ASAP! Thanks. I must admit, I haven't watched for a while now, when did you change the format - the videos are excellent quality ... and your views have sky-rocketed! Congratulations ...
@pierrespringuel I don't have GW paint anymore. But when I did I put them all in reaper dropper bottles to get accurate measurements. Now I use all Vallejo Paints.
i just would like to say tht im an ambitious young mini painter n id like to know if u have any tips to give me on how i can improve my self, get better etc. dou no any cool sites or ppl on the internet
That... is.... AWESOME! P.S: Diluted means mixed with water, right? I just have some paints that ended up peeling of in plastic-y strips. I guess you have to mix them with water first lol XD
I have never collected 40k or really painted any of it before but all of these videos that you post up showing how to paint these space marines involve universal skills that i implement in my own work. Its a beautiful thing. Thankyou so much!
I like your assembly style of this mini; it reminds me of myself... "Ahem." That's probably one of the most interesting ways for painting a base that I've ever seen. Very inventive dude... Saying "APJ" sounds really cool. Glad that you got your store sorted out in the end Les ;-) Did I not already mention that this tutorial/series so far is awesome? Well, it certainly is!
great work dude! two questions though what primer do you use and what did you use to hold the bolter up when you painted it. It looked like a stick glued to it but that can't be right.
thanks sinister brain

That... is.... AWESOME! P.S: Diluted means mixed with water, right? I just have some paints that ended up peeling of in plastic-y strips. I guess you have to mix them with water first lol XD

why do you dilute every colour on this model, but on all your others you hardly use any diluted colours??
sickedsam 2 years ago
all my colors are diluted. The old vids just don't say they are. Diluted paints give smooth finishes.
awesomepaintjob 2 years ago
when i dilute myn they just run into the corners of the parts that you want to leave darkend!
sickedsam 2 years ago
you have too much paint on your brush.

Thanks! Primer= Color Place Flat White. Sticks= Mini dowels from Michaels Arts and Crafts, Basically toothpicks just without the sharpened ends.
