There's saddness to this video seeing all the poverty and the song go's good. All they had was graffiti to keep them entertained and somthing to see that they did that made them feel good. I wish u can just go back in time for a day and see what it was like. All I really know is graffiti from mid 80's then 90's. Started with tag banging and now its just all... idk not the same. (Repent*mof crew)
Even worse, I'm growing up in a time where these new artists are just a bunch of shitty graff writers that think adding 400 arrows to a piece makes it better.
Just to see NY in that light, for someone too young to remember, it's steals your breath and slaps you across the face as it wakes you up to this fucking world.
Great vid.... Feels good to see the old trains again! A lot of these kids are alive or dead today but also manny have gone on to be great artists in there fields....Stretch152, uptown!
Yo son dis shit is ill rite here.I know in my heart Im suppose to want better as far as quality of life & livin conditions. But! from a HipHop perspective.I luv lookin at grimm & desolate areas.Especially in NY's da Bronx. Its like I can feel da true essence of great wonders.Emerging from something so dirty n rugged.Like a ancient battle ground for Barbarians.Just think.Lengendary Bboys n BGirls,DJs & MCs came from theses ruins. And then da music goes rite wit dis shit.Totally awesome Peace.
Seeing a train is hope, a need to get away from the ruins. A train that goes around and takes me back from were i first started. The day becomes even darker cause I saw reality on it's purest form. Even my dreams can't scape to better places. I saw a train that read "Earth is Hell" but after came a train that said "Heaven is Life." We were all waiting for that train to pass again, but it never came back. BROOKLYN 1970
As the 80’s wore on the phenomena of tagging became more and more visible. Tagging was nothing new. Buses were scribed in the 1960/70’s mostly with gang markings but the trend was there and would go on to more elaborate and visible means.
grabbed this off some interview on a LA bus graffiti history magazine.
Yes, the Bronx is making a comeback, albeit, it has slowed down a bit due to the economic downturn. In my opinion, the Bronx has the most potential in the surrounding boroughs. Surrounded by water for the most part and the art community in SoBro is turning the neighborhood into Williamsburg. Hopefuly, we can continue to progress.....
@rbiv5 I don't think so my brotha. You can keep on dreamin. But when "SoBro" as you yuppies or hipsters like to call it still has rat and roach infested buildings filled junkies, thugs and drug dealers then you have most households held by single mothers cuz the father was a piece of shit and ran out on the children and the children turn to the street and stay out all night bad things happen from shootouts to stabbings, "SoBro" isn't a glorifying place, it is the poorest community in America.
@rbiv5 I don't think there are many people who want to live in the South Bronx. I never hear anyone cal it SoBro either. Btw I'm a NYPD officer and I grew up in the south bronx in its worst days in the 1970s and I still live in the Bronx to this day, the nicer part of the Bronx, Pelham Pkwy. South Bronx is a dangerous place and the most impoverished community in America. over half the population is below the poverty line. Don't call it SoBro. Its not an art community. Its a depressed area.
@BronxPuertoRican1960 word..nyc is being taking over by these rich white yuppies its so sad..in manhattan the lower east side where im from everything is changing, new buildings are being made..mid western people are renting apartments and getting drunk at 1am and acting like donkey on nyc streets..Most of it is due to gentrification the government is trying to build new buildings for the rich instead of trying to help out people that are in need..not those college students or rich white yuppies
damn i remeber those days you couldn't even walk down the streets with out getting mugged oops i mean robbed and gangs on every corner abondoned buildings with junkies doing dope but some how being a kid looking at the trains was something to look forward too every day a new piece or a burner made everything a bit better
i agree with bolo718 but thank god we made it thru and the bronx looks better than ever now!!!
@ukendcx2000 type the band name exactly in youtube and click on the 2nd link video (music montage HQ). Its the full song, just different video. I'd just recorded it tho.
Growing up in The Bronx for those times was fucked up. All types of crazy shit went on. Almost like the sun would never shine on that part of town. Carter and Reagan left that place to rot. Still we made it through some how. Hip Hop lead the way, for me at least. Hip Hop made life fun.
down ass video...thanx to the old school writers for inspiring such a world wide graffiti move..haha u guys r the shit haha.. if this never happened i wonder what would da worl be like
Boy, how did the U.S. government explain themselves in the crumbling condition on their own home grounds? What did other nation government's regarded? It's pretty damn funny. Carter and Reagan both visited and did nothing.
