Beautiful. Contrary to popular belief, this was not one of Mendenlssohn's "Songs Without Words"...it is a song with beautiful words...transcribed here for piano. Up there with Saint-Saens "The Swan" both pieces have been transcribed many times. Thanx 4 posting.
The wooden rhythmic predictability (lack of a supple and persuasive tempo rubato), combined with the complete lack of variety in tonal color resulting from unimaginative pedaling and any subtlety of touch, confirm that this recording is not Horowitz.
This Meldelssohn's music(song) and video !!!so beautiful and Heinrich Heine's poetry,Marc Chagall and Carmille Pissaro's paintings>>>>!!! Who made this music video is truly Artist!!! and Thanks million ! I hope to meet you someday ???????
I came here because one of the great novels of late 20th century America is named after this poem. Thomas M. Disch wrote it 1979; it was nominated for a Hugo and Nebula for science fiction. It takes place in an early 21st century America that is falling into an economic and social crisis. The book echoes the themes and emotions of this poem, least of which is the protagonist's desire to escape a grotesque, nightmare version of America through the aid of song-- Bel canto, to be precise. Superb!
Why do you think you can pass this off as being a performance of Vladimir Horowitz?! It doesn't pass muster in any regard, whether pertaining to VH's rhythm, musical phrasing, touches, dynamics, pedaling. I suppose this egregious con makes this rank amateur piano player's ego swell by calling it Horowitz, or should I say Horowiztz?
Where the 1954 song "Till My Love Comes Back To Me" by Doris Day is based. Sung by DD in the 1954 movie "Young at Heart" starring DOris Day and Frank Sinatra.
this is extremely calming. I fell my whole body relaxing when I listen to this.
Normally, I tend to listen to pop and harder, louder songs, but when I hear classical music there's a feeling of peace that comes over me. I think my appreciation of such music is enhanced by my talent and love for piano.
I remember learning this song at school in Newport, Mon. Wales, more than 50 years ago now. It's a song I have always loved. So nice to hear it now and played so well. One doesn't think that the songs we were taught at school would play an important part in our lives. But they do.
Very, very lovely and well worth hearing again and again....
This piece is played so... sadly. Almost nostalgic. It's amusing how the same piece can be performed so differently. I much prefer a more serene tone for "On the wings of a song", but this is also just fabulous.

I love this song...I play it too, but sadly the simple version I learned back in grade school is nothing compared to this...
I still love it though. Doesn't matter what version it is, it's always beautiful to me. :)

"This is so beautiful.....The pictures are exquisite and the music just brings me back to my childhood...so so lovely."
This piece of Mendelssohn's whilst fairly simple on piano, the vocal version is more of a challenge.
It took me back to childhood music competitions.
