  • Beautiful. Contrary to popular belief, this was not one of Mendenlssohn's "Songs Without Words"...it is a song with beautiful words...transcribed here for piano. Up there with Saint-Saens "The Swan" both pieces have been transcribed many times. Thanx 4 posting.

  • The wooden rhythmic predictability (lack of a supple and persuasive tempo rubato), combined with the complete lack of variety in tonal color resulting from unimaginative pedaling and any subtlety of touch, confirm that this recording is not Horowitz.

  • This Meldelssohn's music(song) and video !!!so beautiful and Heinrich Heine's poetry,Marc Chagall and Carmille Pissaro's paintings>>>>!!! Who made this music video is truly Artist!!! and Thanks million ! I hope to meet you someday ???????

  • I Wonder who the performer is...

  • my girlfriend's favorite. like this post if you like the piece too. :D

  • I came here because one of the great novels of late 20th century America is named after this poem. Thomas M. Disch wrote it 1979; it was nominated for a Hugo and Nebula for science fiction. It takes place in an early 21st century America that is falling into an economic and social crisis. The book echoes the themes and emotions of this poem, least of which is the protagonist's desire to escape a grotesque, nightmare version of America through the aid of song-- Bel canto, to be precise. Superb!

  • @TheDave3846 Interesting- I was drawn by nostalga- and my Mothers rendering of this Mendelssohn beautiful

melody.Even though the future looks bleak mankind is capable of such hings as this.Genius

  • beautiful music thank you for sharing

  • very nice! mendolson the best

  • This is beautiful. Almost exactly like the Ampico performance.

  • Why do you think you can pass this off as being a performance of Vladimir Horowitz?! It doesn't pass muster in any regard, whether pertaining to VH's rhythm, musical phrasing, touches, dynamics, pedaling. I suppose this egregious con makes this rank amateur piano player's ego swell by calling it Horowitz, or should I say Horowiztz?

  • Where the 1954 song "Till My Love Comes Back To Me" by Doris Day is based. Sung by DD in the 1954 movie "Young at Heart" starring DOris Day and Frank Sinatra.

  • Beautiful piece of music.

  • very nice

  • Me and a fried are doing a guitar/piano duet of this song at our music school.

  • Calms one's spirit. Forever treasured and cherished.

  • A beautiful piece of music I played on piano at high school and whilst gaining my vocal training.

  • lovely beauty song by the genius Mendelssohn and with that superb pianist Horowitz, what a combination!

  • Your video is great. Matches the mood of the song beautifully.

  • I love this song! Me and two of my friends actually played this song for an ensemble on violin!

  • this is extremely calming. I fell my whole body relaxing when I listen to this.

Normally, I tend to listen to pop and harder, louder songs, but when I hear classical music there's a feeling of peace that comes over me. I think my appreciation of such music is enhanced by my talent and love for piano.

  • Beautiful...I love the way the song is played. It has such a sorrowful yet reverent feel to it...

  • Doris Day sang this in the movie " Young At Heart" entiled "Till My Love Becomes You"... a very beautiful song.

  • these are the wrong lyrics

  • I remember learning this song at school in Newport, Mon. Wales, more than 50 years ago now. It's a song I have always loved. So nice to hear it now and played so well. One doesn't think that the songs we were taught at school would play an important part in our lives. But they do.

Very, very lovely and well worth hearing again and again....

  • I love this song...I play it too, but sadly the simple version I learned back in grade school is nothing compared to this...

I still love it though. Doesn't matter what version it is, it's always beautiful to me. :)

  • This piece is played so... sadly. Almost nostalgic. It's amusing how the same piece can be performed so differently. I much prefer a more serene tone for "On the wings of a song", but this is also just fabulous.

  • thank you tony for sharing this haunting melody thank you also to Thespadecaller for the post

  • You are welcome - it's magical, isn't it? It was one of the first tunes I learned to play.. *sob*

    Feeling a tad down tonight..

  • I'm sorry!!

    This is a lovely song!!

May it always give you great memories!

  • Bless you cherrialbum x

  • I remember the Movie "Young At Heart" where this melody was put to lyric and was titled " Till My Love Comes To Me" woderfully sung by Doris Day

  • stunningly beautiful.. Bravo!

  • I agree - both Mendelssohn's music and the art work is stunningly beautiful.

Thank you for the share and thanks to Spadecaller for putting it together.

  • So soft, gentle and peaceful. Such beautiful videos you make.

  • "This is so beautiful.....The pictures are exquisite and the music just brings me back to my childhood...so so lovely."

This piece of Mendelssohn's whilst fairly simple on piano, the vocal version is more of a challenge.

It took me back to childhood music competitions.

  • i can play this on piano =) but it is a bit alternative version..

  • Very beautiful music and work of art.

  • This is so beautiful.....The pictures are exquisite and the music just brings me back to my childhood...so so lovely. Thankyou.
