The reason it's illegal to speed on the road is that it's dangerous to others. Speeding means you can't react quickly enough to prevent an accident which would injure others. It means you're more likely to lose control and hit other road users or pedestrians.

There would be a hell of a lot more laws if it was the law's job to protect people from themselves.
